Edifier R1280DBs My personal favorite review
This is a review of the Edifier R1280DBs. I did pick this one due the features it has, and I did like the sound of the Edifier R1280Ts, it was some of, or the lack of features, that mostly leads me to the R1280DBs. I just wanted a little more coming from this price range, and the R1280DBs, I think came through just fine. First let’s talk about the sound, these speakers have a very easy to listen to sound. They have a very nice blend of lows and highs, with the lows being very smooth, with enough boom, and the highs are very clear and not fatiguing, I really like the sound of these powered speakers. Now let’s talk about the features; first thing is these are active Bluetooth 5.0 speakers, ...

AIYIMA A07 Power Amplifier Review

Let me begin by saying that after having reviewed the Aiyima A07 MAX and the Aiyima A07 Pro I was expecting this Amp to live up the name and it absolutely did do that. This is the more affordable version of the A07 and I would say is all most people would need if you just need power. If I’m being honest I can barely tell a difference in the bass with the sub connected. I know it’s hard to really hear it on RUclips I don’t know what you recorded it with and I’m listening with headphones. So I know it’s not a real reflection of what the system sounds like. It does however sound fuller with the sub. I imagine it probably sounds better than what I can hear. I have some powered sayin book shelf speakers I’m thinking of adding a subwoofer to That’s what led me to your video. I don’t have a sub out. My question for you is do you think it would be safe to run RCA Y splitter from the powered speaker one going to the left passive speaker and one running to a powered subwoofer? My thinking is it’ll just split the signal not changing the ohms. The subwoofer I plan to use has a cross over low filter so it’ll only play the low side keeping my book shelf speakers in the full range. I’ve never hooked a sub up like this but in theory I’m thinking it’ll work. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks SK

      Greetings @ShinyKnife, I’m not to sure if I like this setup, I often will connect a DAC to powered speakers, I did a review for a DAC with TWO outputs. Hello ! Love the review. I'm looking at adding bluetooth to my vintage Kenwood Model Eleven series 11, 80 watts a channel. I was going to go with something small but looking at the Tascam CD-200BT ( bluetooth) a tad pricey at 399.00, but I need a new cd player anyway, so I get both in one. Love your channel. I am curious as to what your main system is? I was wondering if you could do a review of it,? What do you listen to? I listen to everything from ABba to Frank Zappa. If it sounds good, I'm tuning in.

      Greetings @bigbass7050 ; Thanks for watching and joining the conversation. The Tascam CD-200BT is a nice piece of equipment. My main system was a vintage Pioneer and a vintage Technics [that began having problems], so I began to look for budget priced equipment, and started this channel, and now my main system changes every month. I’m planning to do a few system reviews this year, hopefully. There was a time when I listened to almost everything, but now mostly a softer Jazz sound.

    Active and passive sub outs, that's interesting. If you have a passive sub it will be interesting to see if that 24v 4 amp power supply has the ability to drive a 2.1all passive set up. The sub frequency adjust (high pass filter adjust?) Looks very interesting as well. Another review to look forward to.

    I own both and plan on keeping them. I purchased the Jamo 5.0 system in 2020 when they were $200 on Amazon. Great deal ! Each Jamo speaker does have a scooped midrange, the small center especially. The 801 (smaller speaker) sounds ok. Good for a surround or casual bedroom speaker. The 803 was interesting. Having lost my remote i was not able to find the e.q. menu on my Denon lol. The 803 lacked sonetimes but also blew my mind with some tracks. The Jamo with a few tweaks can be a fantastic 2ch stereo, nice and energetic with satisfying bass and highs. The 803 would be better than the Sony for a night when you have people over and need background music. Fills the room. The Sony's for the price i paid $75. Was a bargain. I think they are probably better suited for a critical listener, which i am not lol. But i liked them enough for movies and games becouse of the detail. I now have 4 pairs of the sscs5's😮. Having all matching speakers in Dts and Dolby is very very nice. Especially for $300 total 😊

    Happy New Year! A few questions if that's ok. Were you streaming or listening to CD's (digital) or were you listening to vinyl (analog)? If digital, were you using a separate DAC or the built in DAC in the streamer/player? How many hours of break in so far? And are you able to now appreciate them at lower volumes or is that still a wait and see? Here is why I ask. You test gear that very few others are reviewing on line. That puts your channel in a very unique position which is why I appreciate it as I do. I am more inclined to check out the lesser reviewed gear that you evaluate and that opens up more possibilities, which is a nice thing! Because you have a variety of amps, DACs, pre amps, etc, knowing what you are using helps to build a picture of how to build a pleasing system using this affordable gear to best effect. Keep doing what you are doing! And thanks for doing it.

      Greetings @PhillyBosoxFan; These speakers were connected to the KIMIUP AC01 and my computer initially, and then I connected the WiiM Pro AirPlay 2 if I remember correctly. I didn’t play any vinyl on these speakers, and no separate DAC. I can’t tell you how many hours, but they were connected for about 2 weeks. I don’t want it to sound like they don’t sound okay at lower volumes, but they really did came to life when I turned them up. There not connected right now, because of the other equipment that I need to test. I don’t have as much time as I would like to do my testing and also spend some time just for listening pleasure and testing pleasure. I hope to upgrade my channel in 2025 and do more side by side reviews and also more setup videos. I hope you and all the people who have subscribed and have contributed to this channel know how much I appreciate all the support you all have given me, and I hope to continue doing them THANK YOU Happy New Year

      @Viewmydesktop nice! You have a good number of mix and match possibilities with some very affordable pieces. The mission of your channel! I stepped out of my tendency to collect Polk speakers and brought in a pair of Elac debut 2.0 b5.2 bookshelves while they were on a great sale at Amazon. Over the course of several hours of play the soundstage went from totally in between the speakers to well outside them. Thanks for the video! It's so refreshing to see other folks interested in great sounding and performing audio gear at prices that can be accessed by most. I used to be a huge Onkyo fan (and in most respects, I still am) ever since a college friend introduced me to the brand; I actually own one of the higher end predecessors of the model you're showcasing here, the TX-8555, which came out around 2007/2008, and it's been running our upstairs two channel system for a while now with power and sophistication. The only thing I wish it had is a tape loop/monitor to connect a graphic equalizer or a loudness button. Otherwise, this stereo receiver really sounds like a good integrated amp that just happens to have a tuner built in. Solidly built with 100 WPC, a thick anodized brushed aluminum faceplate, quality control knobs and buttons including a heavy and smooth machined metal volume knob, and more. I noticed that after this 8555 model, Onkyo's TX series of two channel receivers just weren't the same - knobs became plastic, the wattage ratings went way down, etc. The unit I own is really the last of its kind in many respects. I also loved the brand for their multichannel AV receivers, of course, but that's the area they definitely went downhill in - since being acquired by Premium Audio Group/Sharp/Voxx, major changes were made to the Onkyo receivers in terms of operation and useful features, and it's the reason I went with a Denon when it came time to replace our surround system's amp.

      Greetings @MikeMargolis-j8f Thanks for watching, and I too have been an Onkyo fan for a very long time along with brands like Pioneer and Marantz and others. I really hope that they keep some level of independence, so we don’t have a few models, just repackaged and rebranded. I do think that for the most part, what we have now is better than most of the vintage equipment from years ago, but it does seem like we lose quality some times, and that’s why I hope some level of competition keep the HIFI world pushing forward. Thanks for the input.

      @Viewmydesktop Hey VMD, Thanks for the response; I agree with you that hopefully this company keeps some kind of independence... did you hear the news about their rebranding they're supposed to announce at CES 2025? Look it up when you get a chance; there are RUclips videos about it. They supposedly have redesigned the logo, which basically spaces out the letters O N K Y O more, but they're also promising new things to come. I hope they don't change the aesthetics of their gear because there was always something overbuilt and beefy about the looks of their equipment.

    Nice amp! I was (and still am for the most part) a diehard Onkyo fan. I own one of the predecessors of this model you're showcasing in the video, a TX-8555, and I absolutely love it for our two channel system. Overbuilt, like Onkyos used to be, with a thick anodized aluminum front panel and heavy machined volume knob. This thing actually performs like a good integrated amp that just happens to have a tuner built in. The only things I don't like about it are the lack of a loudness button and no tape monitor loop to connect an EQ. I was using a TX-SR605 in our 5.1 home theater, and loved it, but it developed a bad HDMI out port; I recently replaced it with a Denon AVR-X2800, but I much prefer the sound and operation of the Onk. This model in your video has been replaced by the 8140, I think it is....

    • @Viewmydesktop
      @Viewmydesktop 23 дня назад

      Greetings @MikeMargolis-j8f ; Thanks for watching and the info, I had not heard that the Onkyo TX-8220 was replaced by the Onkyo TX-8140. I picked the Onyko TX-8220 as one of the more affordable Two channel receivers along with the Sony STRDH190, and there are others but I like these two the most for the Budget market. And I’m also a Onkyo Fan, but the way things are going, in a few years we may only have a few companies making or controlling everything we listen on.

    • @MikeMargolis-j8f
      @MikeMargolis-j8f 22 дня назад

      @Viewmydesktop Thanks for the reply...it was a pleasure watching your video. I may be wrong about the model that is currently out now (it's Onkyo's only stereo receiver available) - I'll double check that and get back to you. I totally hear you on the lack of companies making gear - Bose recently bought McIntosh so who knows where the market is headed. There was also news about Onkyo's complete rebranding, if you've read it yet; they're supposed to be launching a new direction for the brand at CES 2025. They already showed a new logo, which is an evolution of their current one (the letters ONKYO are spaced out more) but I hope that's as drastic as it gets in terms of the aesthetics of their gear. IMO, this company's receivers didn't need revising in terms of their looks - models in the TX-RZ series look like big power amps, with chunky oversized metal controls....it DOESN'T need to be messed with. I'll tell you this: if they decide to go the way of Yamaha with glossy black front panels made of plastic, I'm done with them. The implementation of the SOFTWARE inside their AVRs needs revising....not the exterior designs, really.

      Greetings @jackietempleton4171; Sorry to hear you are having this type of problem. I can’t say for sure why you may be having this problem, but I will say that for me, most of my playback problems were solved by running a Disk cleaning CD. It seems that all Electronic devices that open up collect dust and need to be cleaned internally from time to time. It’s really hard to diagnose a problem when it only happens on occasion and not all the time. This is how I play my CD’s connected to Class D Amplifiers. I really hope you can find a solution for this. No one wants a device that doesn’t work when it’s just in a bad mood.

    Good morning. It appears that someone took advantage of Amazons black Friday deals! You have some reviews coming up! I'm looking forward to them. I picked up some Polk es15's and a Fosi audio P3 pre amp. I'm having some fun putting them in and out of my listening areas. Early verdict is they both bring a lot to the table. I have an older Onkyo AVR in my home office set up and really enjoy the sound. It has a different sound compared to my class D's and I enjoy them all. When you review your new Onkyo 2 channel, please compare it to your class D's and let us know what you hear. Blessings my friend.

      Greetings @PhillyBosoxFan I’m not sure about the Black Fridays Deals, I did pick up a few things, but nothing that I’ve done a review on yet. I can say that from my past experiences, I have found that many Class D amplifiers are not as soft or smooth as Class AB or Class A, but with that being said, the Fosi P3 playing through the Polk ES15 should give you clarity and smoothness. I really like that P3 with a lot of things. That’s just my take on Class D in general vs Audio Receivers. Blessings to you and your Family.

      @Viewmydesktop 28 дней назад

      Greetings @19SelfMade87; without knowing and maybe having the same receiver and subwoofer, to maybe have had a similar experience, I will talk about the experiences that I have had. I’m also going to assume that you have an always on subwoofer and the hum is coming from your receiver to your sub. The two times that I have heard a hum coming from my subwoofer, I replaced the RCA cables with better cables with good shielding and both times the hum problem was solved. I will also say that on subwoofer connections using High Level inputs, I didn’t hear a hum using that type of connection, so that may also be a solution, if that is an option for you. I would be glad to hear if anyone knows a better solution then this. I hope this is helpful for you.

    Good morning. It's good to see the flurry of activity from your channel lately! I'm looking forward to your speaker comparison . I checked out the amplifier chip set that is used in these units. It is the TI TPA3116. which is a decent enough chip at lower power but its level of distortion increases as the volume goes up. I am familiar with this chip from the Fosi Audio bt20-a amp, using this chip and returning it for the bt20-a pro, which uses the TI TPA3255. For anyone on a budget that wants an amp that will allow for upgrades to other components over time, like speakers, DAC's, streamers and such, an amp like the bt20-a pro is a strong component because of that chip. Distortion is significantly reduced and it is upgradeable both in power supply to 48 volts/10 amps and the ability to change op amps. I just did this with different op amps recently and it went from a really good sounding amp to an awesome sounding amp. When on sale, the difference in price is only about $20 from this one. Just my thoughts. Thanks again for the effort that you put in!

      @Viewmydesktop sorry that you have been under the weather but glad your back. I appreciate your channel because, like me, you have been on a quest to find affordable gear that can be pleasing to the ear. I have learned a great deal from many of the audio channels, even the ones that spend more on their hifi than others spend on a mortgage payment...yes I'm chuckling and more power to them if they have the means to do it. I know I do not. The way they manage their speaker and sub placement, room contents, types of connectors, etc are still somewhat applicable, even at the level of my gear. Other channels like cheapaudioman are where I learned about finding gear that delivers 80 to 90% of the performance of much more expensive equipment as well as terms to describe what I am hearing. Then there is the hunt. This is the fun part. Thrift store CD and occasionally equipment finds. Amazon sales, Craigslist and eBay to name a few. Most recently, a Kenwood AVR from the early 90's that retailed for over $1000 back then, for $9.99... It sounds amazing in 2 channel and I will be having it cleaned and tuned up after the first of the year. That will be in the garage workshop along with other sweet sounding "old stuff"! I am just now wrapping up the most difficult stretch of a long shoulder repair process. I have been a captive audience and this hifi hunt has been, and will continue to be great therapy. Your approach and the obvious enjoyment that you get from finding and sharing the finds with others is very much appreciated and I look forward to following your sonic adventures!

      @PhillyBosoxFan your contribution is tremendous, and just like you have said the hunt is a lot of fun, I have been a little fortunate lately to be able to review some equipment, I’m not sure if I will start to review some of the used vintage equipment I have come across, I’m still thinking about that part for now. But I do enjoy hearing about great finds like the one you mentioned. I've had a few thing from Kenwood. I also watch many channels and I’m still learning so much from them, mostly due to the fact that there is so much to review. I both enjoy making and watching reviews, and I’m really glad to have people like yourself as part of the quest.
