Golgari Fynn Returns To Standard With A Leyline Axe (MTGA FDN Standard 21)
Hi! Thank you all very much for watching.
This is my 21st video for Magic the Gathering Arena Gameplay during the Magic Foundation (FDN) Standard Meta.
Today, I played a Golgari Deathtouch deck based on Fynn, the Fangbearer giving each our deathtouch creatures basically Toxic 2.
This along with Leyline Axe coming into play on turn 0, and several 1 and 2 drop Toxic creature that can pressure our opponents, we can easily deal 10 poison damage by turn 3.
This deck serves as pretty good competition against red aggro decks for fastest in Standard.
Exported Decklist:

I like the idea ! Will probably try it and try to destroy Mono red with it 😊 ! I love outrageous robbery !
Thank you for the support. It's always a great day to destroy mono red, haha. Thank you very much for watching.
been a while since I was around. nice to see that you are still uploading stuff like this consistently, deck looks GREAT, I like fun decks that are not mainstream.
Thank you very much for the support. I tried to brew decks pretty often; unfortunately, most of them cannot handle the current red mouse madness. But that won't stop me from trying. Thank you very much for watching.
I respect the red mouse disrespect
Thank you. Arena players gotta unite against the red mouse degeneracy. Thank you very much for watching.
I like the deck. Haven’t seen it lose yet though. I tend to be suspicious of deck I see on RUclips that don’t show loses.
That make sense. I try not to show too many loses since the algorithm seems to not like those videos. I do think this deck is solid, but of course relies pretty heavily on going first or hitting the correct tempo. Thank you very much for watching.
@@rnguniversity69420 maybe…but I don’t think “the algorithm” is looking to see if you lost games lol.. but if your not gonna show the losses at least tell us about what weaknesses you found when playing the games you did lose. And we see the rank going back and forth so obviously you had some issues. There’s no way this deck is tier one at plat4 and that’s the honest truth. Just a little more transparency next time. I love the deck, it looks fun to play. 🙏 The video still gets my like 👍
@@alonzoramon704 Absolutely, I tried to give my win rates and deck weaknesses at the end of the video. Mostly, I tried to cut out games where I get mana-screwed, or flooded, or red aggro kills me by turn 3. Nobody is interested in those games, but they seem to happen a lot, haha.
This faerie deck seem quite solid.
Thank you for the comment. I think faerie is often a forgotten archtype since people default to older ones like elves or dragons or big splashy ones like demons or dinosaurs. But faeries in Dimir has super strong tempo and lots of interactions. Thank you very much for watching.
I haven't watched it all yet but thanks in advance
Thank you very much for watching.
@@rnguniversity69420 no worries. I just started playing this game a couple months ago with foundations release... I been playing online everyday and building decks. Today I took all my real .life cards I collected including 25 hare apparent, and made a 140 card deck from my white mana cards that I like.... I then recreated it online.I did take a hare apparent hare deck to mythic last week on arena. And I haven't seen anyone playing hares at that level, except me Anyhow it keeps my mind occupied.... I was thinking of joining the rqs qualifier near me since the store is only a mile away. I may be able to give some good competition by next month.
@@JamesJenkins-n4f Hey that sounds great. Glad to hear that you can take an unconventional deck all the way to mythic. Good luck on the rqs, I hope you can make it all the way.
It's a nice book. Read it to the end and gain life too.
Thank you. It is great even if you just skim it. I wish WotC would bring the storybooks back for the fatpacks. Thank you very much for watching.
yeah watching this on mute
Lmao
Well, thank you very much on watching anyway, lol.
Only reason I commented was to to say final showdown slaps. You must be a roadman(British Slang).
Best part was, "I want to Get Lost the Fountain Port."
I don't know what a roadman is but thank you. I am on the road a lot, lol.
I love your enthusiasim keep up the good work.
Thank you very much for the encouragement, and thank you very much for watching.
I hope Angels will be standard playable again soon, would love a deck tech on them
I think there will be an Angels deck very soon, since WotC is always releasing good angels almost every set. It is a popular archtype. Since Giada is in Foundations, angels will be viable for the next 5 years. Thank you very much for watching.
17:09 not that it matters too much since you won still but you can chump the 8/8 with yotian frontliner to get a soldier from the siege veteran. Then just unearth to get up to 5 soldiers for Harbin. Pretty cool tech with the frontliner.
Thank you for the comment. I didn't think about that but you are right. That would have made the win faster. Thank you very much for watching.
Putting upside on a draw every turn card is the back breaking part. It's like getting Siege Rhino'd every turn, except they get to draw a card too. If The demon just turned off the life loss it wouldn't be so broken. On top of that, it attaches a 6/6 demon to it to be used later. Annex is just completely broken.
shoutout to kung pow 👍
Thank you, it was one of my favorite movies growing up. I wish they made the actual sequel. Thank you very much for watching.
Please do more decks like this! I generally play standard so it is refreshing to see other formats and decks. Also, whats up with "you have hexproof" effects in explorer?
I don't play monored/boros/burn and I'm loving this decks flooding the meta. No more greedy combos ✌️
Thank you for the comment. Let's just hope that this doesn't become the only deck on Standard though. Thank you very much for watching.
Mate I love this. I’m going to give it a try later. One question though. With the Autonomous Assembler, did you consider adding Mishra’s Foundry to buff it or add another target for Assemblers buffing?
Thank you for the suggestion. I haven't thought about Mishra's Foundary but that is a good idea. It is another Assembly-Worker. I do worry about it being too risky since if our opponent removes it, they also LD us. But it is worth a try. Thank you very much for watching.
While Questing Druid is an amazing card, there is an upside to Wrenn's Resolve, namely that it works until then of _next_ turn. You are more lkely to make use of card advantage over two turns than one, especially early game, the most important time for these decks (example: 15:40).
Thank you for the comment. I did think about that, but Questing Druid's advantage is mainly that its adventure is an instant, so we can cast it on opponent's end step and get to use the cards until our next end step. My take is that the mana that we hold up for interactions is more important than to fire off Wrenn's Resolve on our turn only to be helpless on our opponent's next turn. I do see your point that both cards could have their upsides, but I still think Questing Druid is the better card overall, since it can occasionlly be a creature as well. Thank you very much for watching.
Nice! Even I might try Red burn now😊
Thank you. These burn decks really feel unfair, they get so much push with every release. Now we got large amount of burns and Screaming Nemesis, most opponents don't have a chance. Thank you very much for watching.
Ajani was not in ur deck list
Yeah, I mentioned it at the end, but I had to remove Ajani because he was not performing well in the deck. He was only in the first game, and afterwards, he started to cost me games so he was cut from the team. Thank you very much for watching.
This deck sucks
It worked for me. I think if you faced a lot of graveyard hate, it can be frustrating. But maybe I just got lucky and that didn't happen to me yet. Thank you very much for watching.
@@rnguniversity69420 I think the deck is rock solid and does have an aggro problem. You can run the -3/-3 enchantment that gets rid of hexproof. It is another atraxxa target.
@@firebird504 Thank you for the comment. I did think about "Nowhere to Run", but couldn't fit it in. It definitely merits another look, but with Foundation being released, there's probably more fine-tuning that the deck needs. Thank you very much for watching.
@@firebird504I think the adventure one is better here. Another way to reanimate and early game removal
@@rnguniversity69420 it's a pet deck I wanna run for RCQs but the aggro match is a liability.
I like the deck, seems pretty fun. Not sure if you have a fan by the mic though but there is something up with your audio. Edit: After finishing the video listening to you mock your opponents is more grating on the ears than the low grade anxiety inducing hum. Nice deck, good luck on your YT career.
Thank you very much for watching. I think there was an issue with the mic, so I had to replace it. I do get salty a lot, but most people would feel the same way after watching a bunch of opponent rope while playing aggro decks so that 5 minute games end up lasting 20. Mainly it's salt against WotC for making the game like this with their bad designs.
@@rnguniversity69420 I can understand being mad at being roped, but what does that have to do with mocking decks, players, and calling people cowards for surrendering? You didn't get roped in any of those matches shown and still acted like everyone you beat was beneath you the whole time. I've had salty days too for sure so I can understand, but it affects the quality of your video. Legitimately thanks for replying to me.
@@ronaldquintana8749 I'm sorry you feel that way. Mocking opponents in an online game is a way of life, lol. It's all in good fun. But if they concede without playing out the game, they are acting cowardly. They can still come back, they haven't lost yet.
Nice
Thank you very much for watching.
8 cards for Up the beanstalk ?
Yes, but I think that is enough. I used to have more Virtues, but it was not very good against red since the removal side is a sorcery. The Beanstalk already replaces itself, so it's never card disadvantage. The main combo is Beanstalk + Overlord which this deck has 4 of each. I did try Abzan version with more 5+ CMC cards in the following day. I think there may be a better middle ground. Thank you very much for watching.
@@rnguniversity69420 I would try Harvester of Misery. Early game you can throw it out as spot removal, or save it for later to draw a card while wiping up aggro/token spam. This card also helps against random Ghost Vacuums you may run into yourself.
Looks solid. What would you change for bo3?
Thank you. I think BO3 would be a pretty easy sideboard. Just take out robberies and ghost vacuum for more removal like cut down or annoint with afflication against aggro. You can also take out the cut down and maybe 1 or 2 go for the throats for more pillage the bog and robberies against control or combo decks. Thank you very much for watching.
Hey was trying to watch the video but there is some kind of audio feed back making it a bit hard for me to watch. It is like a subtle wubbing is the best way I can put it.
Thank you for letting me know. I think it was my phone vibrating on the same table as the mic-stand. I will try to keep the mic-stand isolated so that it doesn't happen in the future. Thank you very much for watching as much as you did.
Bro i think beans should be replace with caretakers talent. You have sunfall. twilight, port mirrex and cottage.
Thank you for the suggestion, I did test Caretaker's Talent in a Duskmourn video: ruclips.net/video/z4-gqlebXlE/видео.htmlsi=iDPxKWwR7He7DWpL. I think 3 CMC for Talent is a bit difficult over 2 CMC Beanstalk since the meta is very aggressive, but I could be wrong and need to test it out more. I will try Abzan again before Foundation comes out. Thank you very much for watching.
damn bro knows japanese
Haha, 6 years of Duo Lingo owl stalking will do that to you. Thank you very much for watching.
Hey man, i'm playing the same deck (not exacly, mine is a sultai with Rotpriest and i'm thinking about using inkeeper's talent too). But against the Mono-White Tokens, you forgot to proliferate the impending markers from the opp cards. Against our deck their creature basicly will never get to the board😅 I think you should have used more mirrex's tokens too. Just to make them block and lose tokens. But cool video, keep it up!
Thank you very much for the comment. I totally forgot about those impending counters, proliferation definitely will hurt those overlords. I think sometimes I get a little too greedy with the poison decks and try to go too big. You are right that if I just use the Mirrex a bit more to hit to 10, maybe I could win a few games that I lost. Thank you very much for watching.
Levels to magic and decision making
Looks strangly like the deck my brother built IRL
Andy, Is that you? Hahaha But in all seriousness, Rakdos is pretty strong in Pioneer. I'm sure your brother is a good player. Thank you very much for watching.
Nice platinum deck
Thank you, I think it can work it's way up to Mythic, but of course the new red leyline ban might shake up Standard a bit. Thank you very much for watching.
Loved the video. Thank you!
Thank you very much for watching. I am very happy to hear that my videos were entertaining.
Great deck
Thank you very much for watching.
Just run 8-12 pieces of cost effective removal and this deck does nothing lol
I suppose. But every deck is bad against another deck that has 8 - 12 cards that is techs specifically to fight it. The old Domain deck could never fight UW control for that exact reason, there were Sunfalls and Farewells for days. Thank you very much for watching.
Nice build! i think couple lock piece would be great for the deck aka highnoon/black leyline . gotta love me some abzan control.
Thanks for the suggestions, I will have to try those out in a future deck. Thank you very much for watching.
Nice build. Last game was very interesting to watch.
Thank you very much for watching. Glad to hear that the games were interesting. I am always afraid that the Stanadard meta might get too stale.
@@rnguniversity69420 Now I have to watch your others videos 😜
@@LaurentCassaro Thank you. I am happy if my videos can provide some entertainment even I get super salty at times playing Arena.
I feel like the glimmer cat would be a better card draw spell over Locker Room, because unlike Entity Tracker, it also triggers eerie.
You might be right, but I think the 4 CMC is too high for this aggressive deck. Locker Room's card draw side costing 5 was also the reason I could not activate it in many games. Entity Tracker is only 3 so it can come down reasonably early and still have impace in a aggro game. Thank you very much for watching.
I'd probably take out the pushes without the sac strategy. Thought seize seems the clear choice, but there's also an exile black spell at 2MV
That is a good idea. I was worried about all the red leyline turn 2 kills so I wanted to include a 1 CMC removal. Thank you very much for watching.
Always love me some Abzan, nice brew.
Thank you very much for watching. I enjoy control, even when WotC forces all of us to play turn 2 fling decks.
Is the whole "charter a course" thing a rage bait trap? Congrats, you caught another one.
I might just be oblivious to what you are referring to. But thank you very much for watching.
@rnguniversity69420 alot of youtubers pronounce a card name wrong in their videos just to get people to comment. Saying "Charter a Course" instead of the correct "Chart a Course" is one such example.
@@thomaseddy7347 Oh, haha, I didn't even notice that. I was probably thinking of Charter internet when I said it. Sometimes I do it as rage bait, sometimes it's just good old fashion incompetence.
gay deck
I'm not sure if you mean that as a compliment, but thank you.
Good video, but you need to work on the audio quality the constant thumping sound was really irritating.
Sorry this is the best mic I can currently afford. I have been trying to adjust the Audio in Streamlabs, but its either too quiet to hear me commentate, or too loud that it picks up background noise. I will try my best to not bump the mic while I record. Thank you very much for watching regardless.
I’ll have to try subbing in the mentor for djinn, I have been running very close to this deck and these minor adjustments might make the difference, thanks!
Thank you for the comment. I think Djinn is a good card for this style of deck, but if you sub in Djinn, you should probably put in some more counterspells too, that is where Djinn shines. Thank you very much for watching.
@@rnguniversity69420 that’s exactly what I was doing and found it a touch too slow, depending on the draws. I feel your version can quickly deal with the speed of mono red much more efficiently and I’m not gonna lie, watching the mentor trigger and create so many tokens is very satisfying. Thanks for the vid!
@@WindowsLM Yup, those mentor triggers are the best part of this deck. Once we are able to stick one, it will create an overwhelming board and carry us to the win.
What do you about the black leyline? Cuz im running a similar deck with slasher using leyline.
I think black leyline is a good inclusion right now. There are a lot of reanimators running around, so it can definitely do some damage to their deck. It also stops all the "dies" trigger from red decks. But once Duskmourn Standard settles down, and there are more control decks running around, it won't be as good then. Thank you very much for watching.
cry a little more
I am not saying this combo is too good and deserves a ban, I am saying this limits deck design and forces every deck to have turn 1 interaction which is not fun for most Magic players.
No you ....more
Cool deck!
Thank you. I do think this new card is designed perfectly in Greasefang decks. It adds to the mill synergy without being too overpowered. Thank you very much for watching.
Haha it’s… a two-ool box kind of deck haha
Lol, true dat. Thank you very much for watching.
oh yes, the one and only biker rat from kamigawa is back
Thank you very much for watching. It was fun to play an old combo deck with a new twist.
There are so many cards that should be Ban, these are a good examples, but for red the Leyline of Resonance should be also included. The same for the new dread mechanic which is busted, you can add dread cards for nothing and turn them over with any blink mechanic. Annabelle and at least 20 cards of each expansion should be banned, the power creep is out of control, the game is not fun or strategic anymore. It depends a lot about luck and broken cards. No about sinergy or good play. For example all win conditions that only require two cards should not exist. That is too easy to set, even more in this meta. If I would be a magic mannager, I would add a new format in which none of this win conditions are possible, without any of the classic broken cards.
Thank you for the comment. I do agree that Magic has gotten too overpowered and Standard seems faster and faster. There should be a brand new format where none of these insane combos are allowed. Somewhere between Standard and Pauper is preferrable. (I still want to play with some rares.) I still think this deck is TOO FAST even now, a almost consistent turn 2 or 3 kill in Standard really just makes it so no one even wants to play anymore. I am curious to see what, if anything, WotC will do about this. Thank you very much for watching.
@@rnguniversity69420 It was just as fast in the mid 2000s. The problem is not enough fast answers to the problems, and how resilient the threats are. In the past a single bolt or thoughtseize could buy a couple turns. Now the same sort of cards aren't anywhere near enough.
