UT Dallas institute researching the science of the aging mind.
Our scientists engage in a variety of research studies aimed at understanding memory, cognitive aging, and risk factors for Alzheimer’s Disease. Their studies combine state-of-the-art structural and functional neuroimaging technologies with research techniques in cognitive neuroscience with the goal of explaining changes that occur in the brain over a lifetime and how these changes affect specific cognitive abilities and behaviors.

Alezheimer's disease dementia is not just a brain thief; it's a gendered one. The most common of all dementias, Alzheimer's is characterized by early memory loss, particularly recent memories. Of all patients living with dementia, two thirds are women, but we still treat it like a one-size-fits-all villain. Spoiler are: It's not. Women have an outsized risk of being diagnosed with the disease, ...

Looking forward to my time at UTD
Absolutely agree with the need for early user feedback in the development cycle. This is basic to all good system design, and much more with older people. I have been involved with system design most of my working life, and look at the current mobile phone interface as a nightmare for many older people. Touch the wrong part of the screen and you are taken to an unknown website. The scrolling is often problematic. The volume control may or may not work. I have recently helped a friend (100+ years old!) to downgrade to a "dumb" cellphone because of these issues. She uses the Internet on her Linux PC - no problem. But the mobile was just not suitable. The advanced voice recognition we have today could be a marvellous help for older people in many ways. But security, ease of use, legal liability issues, maintenance and physical setup requirements would all pose challenges that would be barriers to their use. And for no good reason. Money would be saved, quality life would be enhanced, safety improved. People like CREATE are totally invaluable in their contribution to progress.
This is pure gold.
@12:55 This reminds me of hypnosis. We go along with suggestions if we don't have any reason to question or be weary of them.
This is a revolutionary paradigm shift for millions of Americans who have not planned for retirement. The longevity risk is a major problem for financial planners. The static view of living off two pillars of retirement. They need a new pillar of earning income during their retirement age. We are recommending updating the use of reverse mortgages and a cash settlement.
