To be honest, Frypan had to go through a lot of things from nearly losing Minho, seeing Gally die, seeing Newt dead, and he lost Winston. He hides that all away with his friendly figure and that’s what I love about him. And also, he lost all those Gladers (Ben, Jeff, etc.)

I just realized that Newt said thank you Minho not because he helped him getting through the last city, but because Minho was his friend and helped him all the time. He knew that Thomas would have a letter to read, ut he wanted to make sure that he also thanks Minho before he dies. Man Newt should have survived. And maybe he has? I mean, if Gally survives a spear through his chest, why shouldn't Newt survive a gunshot/knife...?
