感動しました!
Beautiful movie 👌🏻
This was only the first step: Often, the most difficult step. And what Helen achieved throughout her life is also inspirational.
Helen was deafblinded at age 20 months by unspecified fever disease, and by the time they hired Anne to teach her, she was 8 (although the actress is something like 12-14) so she had accurate memories of verbal communication from 6 years earlier; Trying to say "water". Although people think that she didn't communicate with other people, she actually had developed over 60 "homesigns" for familiar people and things in her life. They had black housemaid/cook who had daughter only two years older than Helen, and the maid's daughter had learnt to understand most of Helen's domestic signs as the girls spent a lot of time together (which was unusual in post-slavery era, to let the daughter of the house to play with hired help's children)
So emotionally realistic, Bancroft and Duke never made a false move. Seen this film a number of times; one of the films I revisits from time to time. I first seen it when it made it's debut on TV about 2 years or so after the release,it was a big deal,I was maybe 12 or13 or maybe younger . And even at that age I was touched (Also by To Kill a Mockingbird with Greory Peck as the great and honorable Mr. Attcus Finch)Since then. I've looked at it through a more mature eye, and I'm still at awe with their performances, looking for a false note. If anything, I'm even more impressed, timeless, this film made me a Anne Bancroft fan for life (such an earthy and beautiful woman the kind I go for) Duke should have been a star, her talents were immense. A great film with a great score and cinematoghaphy, and two of the greatest performances ever in cinema. A masterwork in film acting, some performances don't translate well on the screen, never seen it on Broadway, (of course) but I can't imagine it being better, maybe the aura of live theater but not the performances. The Academy got it right with both actors. Davis flat-out got beat.
When I was very young I saw Helen Keller in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
Its the best scene in tge history of the movies...why...because its a true story.
Je m'appelle myrtille thomas sabre je suis en 3ma j'adore Hélène il es belle et intéressante pour moi
Watched this in high school; my teacher was related to the lady who helped Helen; someone had from my teachers family had an affair and popped out The Miracle Worker lady.
I'd have got my behind beat for throwing the pitcher.
Gran Película con Patty Duke y Anne Bancroft Inolvidable 🎞️📽️🇨🇱💖🙏
I was the parent of a child who was hearing and vision impaired. I watch this clip often when I feel low and want something to touch my heart. This clip truly touches my heart. If you love this story, there is also a movie that is a twin in some ways to this story called Black. Link to the wiki page, thinking those who would want to watch, will find a way. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_(2005_film)
Today, she would be in jail because of abuse. Time is abuse and get with reality; we have a very strong work ethic in this country, and time to get back and time for truth. The Psycho-Babble is over.
@alexandrasophia24: Excuse, but what the hell does your comment mean or have to do with THE MIRACLE WORKER??
@@johnpickford4222 In those days there was no standard on abuse. Today, you cannot touch a client and hit her back. Helen didn't know and hit Ann and they both hit each other. In today's standard, will not allow. The way Ann Sullivan reached Helen was very different in different times of the ages. Just making comparative statements, of different errands of time.
@@johnpickford4222 I used to sub-teach and you didn't report to social services, you can go to jail if you touch a student.
Powerful! Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan were two remarkable women.
Very Special.
As much as I love Bette Davis, there was no way she could or should have won the Best Actress Oscar over Anne Bancroft that year, especially for a campy semi-flop like "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?" (The whole scenario about Blanche being held prisoner in the house by Jane made no sense. She could have had the housekeeper take her out of there any time, she controlled all the financial resources, and why in Hell was she throwing notes out to the neighbor when she just needed to call out from the window?) Anne deserved that Oscar, and of course, so did Patty.
The incredible acting aside by 15 year old Patti Duke & Anne Bancroft, what made it the masterpiece it is was that it was a true story.
Does anyone else see what I see at the 2:54 mark ? The male actors hand , very sick 🤢 and has ruined this movie for me !
I seriously doubt the actor picked this moment to go for it. On camera. Close up. With literally dozens of people around. There are pigs in the world, but there is also such a thing as incidental contact.
@@JS-ik5jl I agree.
I ❤ this movie
One of the greatest moments in the history of WoW! Cheers!
Ran across after seeing piece on mark twain's friendship with Hellen Keller. Saw this as a young boy on TV few years after it's release. The remakes aren't terrible but not comparable to this. True classic. Let's hope Disney doesn't remake The Graduate for gods sake.
@chickmcgee1000: I read that there is a GODFATHER remake planned with Al Pacino as Don Corelone. No word on the horse head in the bed.

One of my favorite movies of ALL time!!!
Patty Duke (real name Anna Marie Duke) actually met Helen Keller after the movie was out a while. Keller left her a pretty perfume bottle in her will....
:)
I cannot get tired of watching this wonderful scene."W.A.T.E.R it has a name"and Helen understood that the fresh liquid pouring into her hands was W.A.T.E.R and that everything had a name, that Papa ,mother also had names and loved her..it 's so touching.
fabulously well done at 3:35 the music.............ahh.

Agreed.
A beautiful human story, superb performances, a fabulous score, impeccable cinematography and a great director. Who could ask for anything more.
Disagree, the violins and the superb score make it even more moving.
3:57. The look on the mother's face when she holds up the key chokes me up every time. Inga Swenson was amazing in this role.
