We are very fortunate to have a a sailboat, RV, and side-by-side. Whether on a Jeep, OHV, or hiking trail, we always carry a bag with us and bick up the standard cans and plastic bottles that people feel the need to leave behind. When sailing off the coast of southern California, we inevitably find mylar balloon "bouquets" floating around along with other sundry items which we try to grab and drag aboard if not too far out of our way. You are good to do that on your walks through town and parking lots!

I live w/in an hour of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway & have been to the race several times since 1960, & time trial & practice days more or less annually. I also fly & used to do the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Oshkosh Fly-In annually. Keeping the track in a reasonably functional state throughout the Month of May is a ‘round the clock operation, & the clean-up after the race takes a small army of day laborers, a fleet of trash trucks, & at least a few _weeks_ of cleaning up the venue & the surrounding town of Speedway. At Oshkosh, I would challenge you to find _one_ cigarette butt or cup, or a single stray straw or wrapper of any kind. If you do happen to see anything on the ground, the expectation is that you’ll pick it up & put it in any of several hundred bins & barrels - the result being that you’re _very_ unlikely to find anything on the ground that doesn’t belong there. It’s _more_ likely that 3 or more people will bump heads as they reach for some small scrap of something. On race day the track crams 250,000 people within it’s stands & infield with another 50,000 or more milling around outside the track itself - Oshkosh is usually well over 400,000 people _per day_ for around 10 days - it’s generally two weekends & the week between. … bottom line, being trashy is a choice.
