I prefer the fight scene from the 1984 version, but that isn't much praise. I hate the story, regardless how it is told. This is such a pagan, grotesque concept! I don't understand why somebody would write it, or what perspective we are expected to have of it. I can't quite leave without pointing out the flaw in this fight scene. Paul Atreides has already made his ultimatum; obey me, or everybody dies and civilization collapses. Sensing the inevitable, the Emperor's daughter volunteers herself in marriage to Paul, but then Duke Feyd Harkonnen objects, demanding his right to mortal combat with Paul. Um, what part of "obey me or die" did you not understand, Feyd? The scene messes up the story's flow; we go from an existential threat to the entire galaxy, to these two guys fighting over a woman.

i can see why the older movies went nowhere with this story. Mistakes were made.

Most people don’t t realize that this series tried to emulate the original design that Moebius created for the very first Dune adaptation attempted by Jodorowski (with Dali!) David Lynch had decided to take the design to a very different place. When I saw the TV Show I was « wow they did it… and yes Lynch was right » I love Moebius and Jodorowsky but the initial idea for Dune with Dali on a « toilet throne » was just plain crazy. Funny, grandiose, over the top, creative,… but crazy.

Okay, I know the costumes make Lady Gaga's wardrobe look modest, but I still think this is one of the best adaptations of Dune because this miniseries was the most faithful to the books. First off, the miniseries had the best portrayal of the Harkonens. The Harkonens were NOT suppose to be monstrous brutes, but normal humans just like the Atreides except that the Harkonens were just obnoxious assholes. They Harkonens were supposed to be more douchy than scary, and the miniseries understood that. Both Lynch and Denis Villeneuve kind of added their own baggage to the movies because it was their personal take on Dune, but the makers of this miniseries decided to stray away from that.

The original fight scene in the old movie is 100 timse better. In general the old movie is 100 times better.
