    The fact he uses a cloth to wipe his blade so much gives me a LOT of respect for him. I'm often very critical of modern teachings that ignore all the blood which was spilt for us to have these swords and techniques. The dead should be remembered and honored: wipe your blade with a cloth.

      Few people still have. Lots of factory assembled stuff in the market. Still expensive to get good quality. My sword acquaintance bought a longsword for less made by Albion. That is high quality. That thing was weighted so well with a proper understanding of precision point.

      I still haven't gotten my hands on an Albion sword yet either. My swordsmithing play list has some of the basics on how properly weighted and proportioned European swords are mapped out. It's just preliminary studies for me though. Gotta get my hands on some originals if I can.

      The first sword I made was an arming sword. It doesn't have any distal taper to it. It is a diamond cross section and pretty near 1/4 inch thick with 2 inch wide blade that doesn't really taper until the point. I'll post a lame bottle cutting demo this week with it.

      Hi, if you still haven't found the right sword, i highly recommened sword of northshire. They are one of the best out there in terms of making custom japanese swords

    Wouldn't disengaging the brain be the best answer instead of going for the weapon first? It's like turning the light off compared to flicking a switch from off to on to off. Just my opinion.

    This is BS... SS physical defense tactics are secret... he's just bringing his assumptions from systema but he doesn't have a clue as to how the secret service would handle these situations... If you read the book from Col. Charles Beckwith, Delta Force, he explains that from all the hand to hand combat training available at the time, Col. Beckwith choose the SS training because it was the most effective and lethal.

    He seems a nice enough english bloke but systema is a loud of bollocks, unless he has trained in something else or encorporated other skills, look how the fat guy stabs him thus allowing the systema master do what he wants to him, BOLLOX, where the piston like stabbing? where's the aggression or violence, go brainwash the sheep mate, its not effective against a real cunt in the street.

      Jay Venegas No, I like some things about it and seen it and some training techniques could be used but the knife defense techniques are to dangerous to use, they probably won't work against a live opponent.

    I'm pretty sure the US Secret Service would be taught very different hand to hand concepts than the Russian Systema ones Martin is teaching here, so he did a good job getting this gig! I also think any Secret Service SA would get their ass handed to them by Martin, though.

    The highest level of skill in tameshigiri.... Even after slicing .. the top section stays on the tatami and doesn't fall until moved.... James Williams sensei has mastered it very well. He is a true master.

    I only have a cheap Musashi, I like the Oroshigane Kobuse that Bugei sells. I agree skill does count but you cannot cut a 3 or more tame with a crap cutter that I have, sometimes a nice quality blade makes all the difference.

      I have a very large collection from $1000 to $120 and real Japanese blades that are 600 and 400 years old also but I also have a musashi katana .. it a good cutter .. sometimes small companies have swordsmith that put more loving care and making the blades trying to make a name then you have bigger companies that worried about how much they produce because they're so popular than the quality of their blades you'll be surprised sometimes

    What sword have got? Ive seen James do awesome tameshigiri with a paul chen raptor katana which is not expenssive. I mean its the skill that counts rather than sword.

    I have been punched by him.It was an experince to say the least.It was like getting shot by a cannon. I also got schooled by him when I tried to attacked him with a training knife with a six inch blade.I was completely owned beyond belief. That is basically his catch phase"do not excite your attackers" He has three very excellent DVDs
