She usually has a crew of 12 (mostly young men and women). I've seen 6 or 8 people hauling on 1 line, flying this traditional rig is work! But well worth it, and quite efficient. She has a couple of awesome backup engines for those times when you need to get somewhere on a schedule and the weather isn't cooperating. I wish we used more wind power and less clock time...

She's a reproduction of the wicked swift and agile privateers (schooners, pilot boat built, or "Baltimore clippers") of the War of 1812. The Brits had the best navy in the world, and the Americans had, like, 8 ships. So we handed over letters of marque and reprisal to private shipowners... privateers. the design (lean, low, lots of sail) was spawned by the narrow, shallow, twisting waterways of the Chesapeake Bay.
