I love this, wow! I didn't know Sarlo personally but I was a surfer and was at Malibu once (1978) and surfed with Sarlo out in the water. He was a powerhouse, super agro surfer, When he would paddle for a wave, nobody else would even try to catch the same wave. They knew he would not miss a wave. My greatest Malibu surf story, I was on the inside trying to get waves that guys would miss. A wave came in and Sarlo started paddling for it, he NEVER misses the wave. He was paddling super agro, straight at me. I just sat on my board knowing that wave was out. But to my surprise, he missed the wave and went back over the top. I turned around as quick as I could and shoved my board forward into a late drop under the lip. That was one of my best rides I ever got at Malibu! Thanks to Sarlo! He was really pissed that he missed that wave too, LOL!

Amazing documentary of my hanai brother Allen ,I truly believe when he was in his surfing prime ,he was the best surfer in the World as well as the most Under Rated.

Gnarlo, if I had a nickle for every gallon of water I took to the face off his rail as he bottom turned in front of me at Malibu. He was always on a schedule, he'd get out there, grab 30 waves and then hop in the Mercedes and gone back to work. Those gouging, torquey bottom turns, so much muscle, he'd really work over a wave like it owed him money. Lots of fun to watch.

I've always heard he's a piece of shit who tries to drown people and cut people off in the lineup.

During the 80s at 3rd point, the entire mood would drop when Sarlo paddled out. Gone were any hopes of picking his set wave. By far and away the fastest and most powerful surfer out. Linked from way out all the way to 1st.

Occasionally met him in and out of the water on the North Shore and Mex Surprisingly humble and friendly Still rips!!!!

Having had the chance to meet and surf with allen over the past 40 years or so I hope people will watch this and know what a great surfer and person that he is. Is he aggressive? Absolutely but at the same time he is polite and respectful. From Sunset beach on a Sacred session we shared some years back to the most recent Cancer Luau at Scripps pier in La Jolla his stoke and energy level sets the bar high.
