Back in the nineteen-eighties, my $99 Greyhound A-B ticket, much to the surprise of the lady that sold it to me, took me from Toronto, to Vancouver Island and included the ferry too. I hired a rent-a-wreck in Victoria and drove till the logging roads came to the ocean where a bear ate my dinner.

Construction began on March 31, 1937. After one and a half years and a cost of CA$5,873,837, the bridge opened to traffic on November 14, 1938.On May 29, 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth presided over the official opening during a royal visit to Canada. A toll of 25 cents was charged for each car or horse and carriage; five cents was charged for pedestrians or bicycles.

When construction workers actually did construction work; with speed might I add. Bureaucracy is killing Canada, especially British Columbia. Everything takes forever to build here - a simple 2-4-month project now takes 5 years. Amazing. TY for the upload.

Some remarkable black & white footage of Bob Dylan shot by CKVU"s Daryl Duke. Best part of this video is the appearance of actor Michael Zenon - who was 'Joe Two Rivers' on CBC's The Forest Rangers.

A couple other notables from Brandon include George Tackaberry, the creator of CCM "Tacks" hockey skates and the childhood home of Samuel Bronfman who would later move to Montreal and become one of Canada's richest persons with the success of Seagram's Distillery.

I remember trips to Brandon as a kid. Driving through the snow for the Royal Winter Fair. Checking out toys in the basement of a department store downtown (Eaton's I'm guessing). And yes, I've been to the Brandon Greyhound station to meet a family member coming in by bus. Still go to the Winter Fair every few years, but haven't stopped in the downtown in forever.
