Blazar Cato 55mm With Canon Wide Anlge Converter
Picked up an old Canon Wide Angle Converter so I put a quick test together using my Canon C70 with the BLAZAR CATO 55mm on a Metabones PL-RF Speedbooster. Hopefully I'll get out with this combo soon, weather permitting.

One of my favourite songs... I wanted to test my Blazar Cato 55mm 2x Anamorphic lens with various diopters so I made this. First time ever recording off a vinyl record and ended up going out through the amp's headphone jack to feed my Zoom H6 as that's what I was able to do with audio gear I had lying around the house. Do you need to calibrate focus also on the converter ? or does it work independantly, following your focus on the Cato ?

    • @JoshGloverMedia
      @JoshGloverMedia 2 дня назад

      That's a good question. It's completely focus-through and still hits infinity as long as the Cato is calibrated correctly for infinity. So you focus normally, it juts lets you focus closer. The focus scale numbers become useless though; if I pre-focus with the bare lens, the focus shifts once I install the converter.

I'm not married to any one brand. It's why I like PL lenses. I've used several cameras from Panasonic, Sony, Blackmagic, Canon, Nikon etc, and the C70 is by far my favourite.

    • @JoshGloverMedia
      @JoshGloverMedia 15 дней назад

      @@joeensley3912 RUclips has turned off the comments twice now for that video for some reason…overall I’m really happy with the lens. For the size and price it ticks most boxes. It is close enough in look to my kowa that I don’t feel like I’m sacrificing too much in the look to not shoot on the kowa. Since I’ve used the kowa for so long, the amount of fishbowl on the Cato doesn’t bother me much. You can mitigate it in post fairly easy but I never bother. If you’re planning on using the 55mm on Fullframe Opengate I think it will be a bit of a problem. My only real issues are that the edge bokeh could be a bit nicer in certain times (atlas Orion, Remus, dzo Pavo are all worse in this regard) and I hate silver flares personally. Love the Blue flare on my 35mm Remus. I’d even take amber over silver.

    Oh thank god for this video! Currently contemplating continuing the DIY journey or stopping while I'm ahead and just doing the Blazars. • @JoshGloverMedia
      @JoshGloverMedia 29 дней назад

      I like this 55mm Blazar. There is a lot to it that reminds me of my Kowa, but the Kowa has much better flares and the bokeh is clean at the sides (with the right taking lens setup) at any stop. I like being able to shoot without rods etc when I'm just walking around, but in any sort of controlled environment/tripod use I much prefer the look of the Kowa so I'd go for that. The way I have it set up the focuser is firmly attached to the scope, which is on rods so I can just slide it up to the taking lens. It is very rock-solid and reliable like this. With how cheap 16h/8z/Bh prices are getting I'd probably still do it. I've been using and tinkering around with mine for over 12 years so I might be biased.
