Thanks for posting these amazing films. The story of this "Little Railroad That Could" is an amazing testament to the vision of the men and women who brought the line back to life more than 60 years ago. I just visited Strasburg this past weekend and am amazed at this little railroad's progress over the years. Bravo!
My grandparents lived literally 5miles from strasburg...my first ride was just AFTER these films around 1965. I always wanted to see how the earliest operations looked, and i had always heard about the early (now gone) centercabs they used before they got the ex-pennsy 44 tonner. Really great stuff...gotta love doing a slow "roll-by" flying switch at Lehmans Place Junction.
What was that number 7?
its one of the 2 early "missing locomotives" that Strasburg had before the ex-pennsy 44 tonner came along. Not sure what railroad it was from but according to Wikipedia its now at the Middletown and Hummelsestown RR near Harrisburg...I hope so...the other past trail I have on it reports it scrapped.
Its one of the 2 "missing" early diesels Strasburg had before they got the ex-pennsy 44 tonner. An article I read from an ancient TRAINS Magazine said something about it being from new england, and it was gone by the mid-late 1960's. One report I've heard says it was scrapped, the other says it went to the Middlestown and Hummelstown near Harrisburg.

Thank you for posting this video. I have been riding on the Strasburg Railroad since I was a young lad. My earliest memories are from the early 1960s. These images brought it all back.

So this is how it all began over there.
Never knew of the no. 7 diesel, but I’m more impressed at the footage of ol’ 1187! That’s a real treat! And then there’s 1223! Oh gosh, she’s a classic by all means! Deserves another chance to run!
I got a question if you ever find the record that has number 4 on it would you upload it?
I think 475 looked cooler with her headlight above the smokebox, but she's still cool with a centered headlight.
This is awesome!
Tbh I wish I could use this footage
Wow such humble beginnings love it!
I want more footage of Strasburg number 4 in operation
One question is no. 4 your favorite engine?
@@SuperFoxyRailwayProduction6702 yes
I like 1187
3:47 there’s 98 my favorite steam locomotive
Very cool. Especially to see those shots of #4 being delivered, I guess is what they are.
And here I thought no footage existed of 1187/4 when it ran at Strasburg.
My dad was an avid railfan and we lived about 1 1/2 hrs from Strasburg. I was lucky enough starting when I was maybe 4-5yrs old to make it to SRR and ride and see 31,4/1157 ,7002 ,1223 and just about everything since, Oh yea one of the little diesels but I don't remember which one. This film footage really brought back some great memories, thanks
