And now I know where the "Pin Pals" team name came from in The Simpsons--brilliant. This host is super good at his job, I'm more interested in his expertise than the actual bowling, which is also super fun.
I was 13 at the time and also this was the time of the 2nd major NYC blackout. Anyway I wished my dad could've tried out for it,he was a decent bowler.
FINALLY!!! -- A *FULL, UNINTERRUPTED, UNCUT NYC broadcast* of _"Bowling For Dollars"!!!_ THANK you, Steve, for sharing your memories with us, and providing some sweet memories for us in the process!
My pleasure, wish I had more of these. My Uncle was on the show as well, I was at that taping but I don’t think that one exists. But thanks again, much appreciated.
Last year, I got to interview Larry Kenney. Very friendly and here's his stories about hosting 'Bowling For Dollars'. ruclips.net/video/35lZUFn7QA0/видео.html
I would love for ABC to reboot this for their summer fun and games as CELEBRITY BOWLING FOR DOLLARS where famous people win money for a charity and for someone either at home or a present audience.
In Providence Rhode Island,we had a version of this on WTEV ABC6 that ended when WTEV switched affiliation with WPRI and became a CBS affiliate and changed its call letters to WLNE.
My dad said that one of the local affiliates here in Des Moines did this, too, and they used Merle Hay Lanes (still open today, but renamed GameDay Lanes!)…can anyone else confirm this?
Bowling for Dollars was a locally franchised show, starting in Baltimore as Duckpins and Dollars by Bert Claster productions who also produced another franchised show Romper Room. Other ones were PM Magazine or Evening Magazine.
@@ChristopherSobieniak The Evening Magazine version was on their Group W Owned TV stations like WBZ Boston, KDKA Pittsburgh and WJZ Baltimore, the syndicated version was all other stations, like WUSA in Washington, DC
Joker's Wild at that point was still CBS era reruns, which some stations were airing in 1976-77. The new syndicated episodes debuted in Sep 1977 on WOR and many other stations.
I love the $680 jackpot won by Myron! Bowling for dollars aired from 1960s-2008 at your local station where you live because it varied across USA and in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada hosted by the locals from USA and Canada. The jackpots started at $200, $300 or $500 depending where you live in USA and Canada. Getting two strikes wins the jackpot or otherwise the jackpot increases by $15 or $20 again, depending where you live. Once the jackpot was won, the jackpot reset back to what I mentioned above depending where you live.
Larry Kenny hosted this show before he became the voice of Lion-O in the animated series “Thundercats” in the 1980’s. “Bowling For Dollars” ran on WOR-TV (channel 9) from the mid 70’s right up until 1979. Other stations elsewhere carried their own version of “Bowling For Dollars” in Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and other cities.
Nick Perry hosted the PIttsburgh Bowling for Dollars in the 70s, but in 1980 he got busted for rigging the PA Lottery, and Bowling for Dollars ended soon after that in Pittsburgh.
Los Angeles Lakers play-by-play announcer Chick Hearn hosted the Los Angeles version of Bowling for Dollars from 1972 to 76 on KTLA Channel 5, which originated from their Golden West Studios. The final months on KTLA were emceed by Jim Lange. After the Lakers games moved to KHJ-TV Channel 9, Bowling For Dollars returned with Hearn as host. Running from 1978 to 79, it originated from the Grand Central Bowl in Glendale, CA.

Greatest joke EVER at 4:34! Good one!
Cool that Myron won the jackpot and got his fifteen minutes of fame! Almost got the mink coat too but was just a little too close to the headpin.

I watched this when I was a kid and I met Morgan Hatch at a charity event with Dick Weber in 1979.
I was four days short of sixteen years at the time of the broadcast.
Seems like a world away. Wow.
Include your bowling average....LOL
Great video
Thanks!

Download more of these bowling for dollars with Larry kenney😊
If I had more I’d add them

This guy has a real 70s DJ voice. Almost sounds like he's doing a parody. I remember the show with Mets announcer Bob Murphy.
Larry Kenney did radio early on, then was a cartoon actor (Thundercats most prominently), and appeared frequently on the Imus program for years.
Yes, I remember Bob doing this.
Mountain Dew was better back in the 70's.
I can't find the Bowling for Dollars show with Chick Hearn.
I was very little when this show aired, so I used to associate the word "bingo" with bowling because of Larry always saying it
Wasn’t this aired on the very same night of the Blackout of ‘77?

With respect, trash like this and Hee Haw was the only thing that brought my family together, what does that tell you 😂
About a decade earlier, Larry Kenney was doing evenings at WOWO in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Great show. Loved watching it with my grandparents.

I remember watching Bowling for Dollars when I was nine years old, this is a great bowling game show and Myron Canson won $680!!
Thanks, my Dad was a good bowler back in the day. Around a 180 average at his best.

Madison Square Garden once had bowling lanes?
Yes. They closed in 1988.
