Runaway Truck ramp demo. If you want to skip ahead the crash actually occurs around the 9:00 mark.
Why on earth is it installed on the left hand side?? What if the road is busy and the truck can't change into the left lane?? Any explanation?
Insurance Companies should give Bonus Discounts to those who use the Brake Check area and be reimbursed by the Government. A WIN WIN
That's amazing how fast it stopped the truck with minimal damage. I'm guessing that they put up protective barriers blocking entry to the runaway ramp while resetting it and cleaning up after a truck has already entered it.
Ok. So my question is what happens if u have another truck that lost brakes & this drag system has a truck in it already??
മലയാളിയുണ്ടോ..?
What would happen is a regular car lost it's breaks, and the driver decided to driver into one of these Runaway Truck Ramps ?
Cool. The highway version of an aircraft carrier's arresting cables.
Totaled out the truck
Great tool and
Stupidest idea truck gets destroyed what the hell, gravel doesn't destroy the truck it just stops it and maybe some minor damage... They just wanna take tax money out of drivers having them fix a mayor damage to their truck or buying another truck i look at it as a scam
Looks like it's going to write every truck off that uses it, from the damage it causes.
Maybe the drivers should slow down and downshift before starting the descent and go slowly and safely down the hill. I know, not nearly as exciting, but less squishy at the bottom!
They sure can make a short report long.............
9:56 Truck stops safely then Ron shows you how not to exit a big rig.
I say have 3-4, mile before intersection have on local radio recording. Telling drivers what friendly steps can be optional and taken. Have no secrets
Keep all drivers new and older always aware before hand.
Explain the tap system on the recording. So the driver knows.
What if there are more runaway trucks behind?
This destroyed the prime mover whereas the gravel pit does little to no damage and could be used with a different medium that isn’t effected by snow or ice
so your truck gets absolutely destroyed using this system , great , yep total incentive to use it ,add the fines and reset cost , hooo eee ,now its getting expensive , in Australia on any steep hill you have to use a gear able to hold the truck without using the brakes , usually about 40 kmh , and all trucks here are speed limited to a max of 105 kmh , the expense here comes from the fines if you exceed these speed limits , incentive to travel safely ? you bet !
Actually a Total failure, as the truck went sideways, which indicate that something did NOT WORK as expected and failed. So in a real runaway at 120km/h I would not like to be in that truck. This system is a DISASTER waiting to happen! Good luck stopping 2 trucks, like in this example ruclips.net/video/C0BxORWTD7s/видео.html
Try building a RUBBER PIT, where a pit filled with tire BEEDS used to stop a fully loaded truck... The further the truck goes into the pit the deeper it plunges into the pit... where a cable winch is used to pull out the RIG... safer and less damage to a Truck...
This is great if you have only 1 truck with a break problem. What happens if another truck is behind the first truck. I guess 2nd guy is just SOL. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ or he runs into the back of the first truck.
they may have shortened the truck stopping distance but destroyed the truck in the process… It seems they should find another solution I don't think this one is any good.
Such a waste of taxpayer money.
I never use brakes down hill, i always pick the correct gear to go down a hill and let the engine and retarder do what its made for. But great idea for emergency.
Why not just send a missile towards the truck from the other direction to stop it? you don't have to destroy the truck to stop it, other companies and countries have a sand pit kind of solution that stops the truck more effectively without making it crash into concrete walls.
And hows aboot getting rid of certain drivers from certain places fur fack sakes!!
Fuck Ontario!! A runaway ramp, what the fuck, hows about the highways that in my opinion that are a fuckin disgrace?? Oh right, Toronto and area get all the attention but meanwhile the rest of Ontario sucks the big dick.
load is more important then a driver or a truck)))
WHAT ABOUT IF 2 OR 3 TRUCKS GOING TO USE THE RAMP? HOW LONG IT TSKES TO FIX IT FOR ANOTHER EMERGENCY?
All that diesel on brand new asphalt.
shoot...truckers can't get stoned after this new truck ramp!!!
I have just found out that runaway truck lanes are a thing, so this is not a developed thought. It seems like an air traffic control equivalent might need to schedule trucks if 4 hours are required to reset the netting for the next brake failure emergency. I'm sure other problems or driver error causes runaway trucks so while it is a wonderful system... Maybe trucks are tracked and scheduled already, what do I know? I learned something new today. Mind. Blown. God bless truckers! ♥️
Sounds like the road should be rebuilt entirely to not have such a deep decline
Did you folks at the CMOT consider use a less destructive netting material ? Aircraft Carrier Arresting Nets come to mind.
Highways safer! It s not safe to walk on the streets of T. O!
4:04 "The gravel arrester bed used the best technology available at the time" Stones were the best technology available in 1994, what a time to be alive
Now that we've got new technology iPhones, all the braking can be done with 5 million broken iPhones on the arrester bed instead of the ol' fashion gravel
And a net to keep fist-sized rocks from being slung back into the high speed traffic was way beyond the science of the time.
One less pos on the highway
I wonder if parachutes on the back of the truck could slow it down kinda like the ones that were used on the space shuttles?
I grew up in northern Ohio, where a hill is any change in road height more than 3 feet over a half mile. It's pretty flat there. knew nothing about hill-induced brake failure, runaway truck ramps or any of this until I stumbled onto this video and now the random info nerd in me is mesmerized when he should be in bed.
Was the narrator a woman or man?
Its for us to destroy your truck a make you pay a shit load of money for a simple break failure. Use styrofoam balls, they are more effective and cheap as hell.
How about runaway train or airplane?
I'm sorry but this is hilarious. Engineers do not have charisma.
Eyebrow game strong boyyyy
why was the truck pulled towards the wall? Are these trucks going downhill way too fast? Cut their speed by 60%.
Технологии 90-ых ?
Good video!
THE NUGGET
The crazy part is that if you use the run away ramp you get a ticket and I don't think that it's fair for them to do that
Ur right, i think the case should be investigated and if its shown the driver/company have been neglecting vehicle maintenance they should get a BIG ASS ticket but if its a random malfunction that happens sometimes on cars they shouldn't.
They did this the exact day when Michael Jackson died???
