Abby and Zach are sooo cute !! I'm so happy to be a part of their lives !!
I just saw a video from the estate auction held there in 1986 and that was a spectacle of items that would bring a hefty sum today. So many vehicles going all the way back to the first decade of the 1900s and antiques going back even further. If only local historians and philanthropists had recognized the value in keeping the house maintained and the fabulous collection of antiques original to the house together, that estate could have been a premier time capsule of early American history.
Yes, but the items that you saw in that auction were not from the original estate, my family didn’t own those items they came from a hoarder who lived there I forget his name
@@ThomasDeal2 It did seem like a rather large collection, that explains why. At least the home is being renovated now. It will be saved after all. The tour was fantastic! Thank you for publishing as part of the online archive. There was some video of who I believe to be the matriarch in that auction video, and bonus footage of a nearly new DeLorean close to the end.
No way do I believe that guy lived in that house for 8 years. That house was completely trashed by or before the mid 70’s and he is not that old.
The castle is beautiful and getting more so every day. I don't knowwho these people are, but isn't this breaking and entering, considering they climbed In a window on the first floor?
no the front door was not accessible and we were with the former owner so yes we had permission.
@ThomasDeal2 Okay, sorry, like I said I didn't know who you all were. If I saw strangers crawling in my neighbors windows, I would be calling the police. And apologize after the fact.
I’ve always been intrigued by this home and curious what the inside looked like! Thank you for this video❤ how stinkin cool!!!
Bit silly taking a baby in
last i heard the county was doing something about this place but thats been a while ago
So much worse in 2022!
This one is my all time favorite ❤
To be fair to the owner, I read an article that the owner was fleeced out $500 thousand by a former maintenance worker. Kind of hard to restore something when the person who's supposed to help steals the money for it.
More like 30,000 but yes
@@ThomasDeal2 Just re-read the article, 300,000. I overstated the first time.
@@elizabethcox5911 which article there’s a lot of misleading information
@@ThomasDeal2 It was an article about abandoned places in Kansas and why they were abandoned. So, the amount could very well be inaccurate. But, still the sentiment stands, hard to restore something if the people helping are helping themselves to your money instead.
@ThomasLaurance If ur the one that taped the video great job I also did a Tour inside the castle but it seems like it's been more than 5 years ago It was back in the 1980,s when me & Sister in Law did the tour I also have pics of inside of castle we all need to get together & save the castle to make it into a bed & Breakfast that would be nice . Just saying I grew up around the area of castle & it's amazing to have the castle in the area but with Wyco wanting to sell it for 10 millions there's no way in hell nobody is going to by it for that price . Wyco needs to get a grip & Fix it up & save the castle & do nice things out of it for the ppl that wants to save the castle .Just saying
Why was there rubble all over the floor? And giving tours despite that
Now 2023 and the house is going to a "tax sale," whatever that means, because he hasn't paid or maintained the place. I hope it doesn't get torn down. I just found out about it!
This may be the last time we ever see it like this
I was trying to enjoy this video I was even putting up with a bogus memory lane narration. The false narrative of why window glass is wavy is not because it happened as it aged. What pushed me over the edge and I had to finally stop the video was saying this was the first house in America to have indoor plumbing in a bathroom. Absolutely false. Even the White House had indoor plumbing and toilets by 1833.
He looks like such a nonce with that hat on. A real cowboy would have had that place fixed up by now.
This is a national treasure, I hope 🤞 it will return to it’s original grandeur. Thank you for letting me see it . GOD BLESS YOUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY
Thanks

That's an old mudflood building for sure
The Dumb shit that owns this place. Needs to sell it to somebody that can restore it because he will never
This video is a treasure for us. My mom grew up there. Eva Marie Perkins. It’s so sad to think it will be lost soon if nothing changes.
your mom grew up there?
Disappointing. Way too much footage of people and not enough of the house.
Feel free to make your own video
Its very difficult to photograph and film houses, especially older ones that will rarely have rooms larger than 12 by 12, plus the guys hauling a baby and probably making sure he doesnt plummit 4 stories through 100+ year old wood neglected for decades. Its way better than anything else available. Thank you to the uploader
It's nice to see the inside of this place. All I've ever seen is drone footage at window level. I've been hearing for the past 20 years that Carl is going to restore it, etc and even in this video he is talking about turning a room into a bedroom suite upstairs. Sadly I don't think this will ever happen. I'm sure there are people who would love to buy this and do a proper restore that it deserves. The Vaile Mansion has been doing tours for decades, and I think even now they are allowing paranormal investigations. Even if Sauer Castle is not haunted, it definitely has had a reputation for it as long as I have heard about the place. I have stayed overnights at quite a few places like this where you can stay the night, do investigations or whatever. Lemp Mansion, Belvoir Winery, and Villisca Axe Murder House come to mind. If you don't stay for the paranormal side of things, you are at least staying at a really cool location with tons of history. I don't know why this guy doesn't just sell it. Make it a nice bed and breakfast like Lemp Mansion. Charge for tours and overnights with a few rooms to sleep in. Charging a couple hundred bucks a pop for an overnight stay could also help with maintenance costs. This place could be a goldmine since nobody can get in to investigate.
i know so much potential and my grand parents were married there so that another great option !
Omg he's selling it!!!!
Hes selling for 10 million so basically hes not selling. Only a fool would pay more than a million or so. The renovation could easily run 500k to a million. You could build new for a couple million
That house needs probably. 3 million in work done to it. It needs top to bottom renovations. Imagine your great great grandfathers house gets given to you and the entire world expects you to pay for it and do it, like I agree. He should sell it to someone who will fix it and restore this masterpiece but he obviously doesn’t have the funds for a project of this sie
very true
In your video, Carl talks as if he's so proud of this house and its history, but yet allows it fall into ruins more and more every day. I really hope that someone is able to finally buy it and it gets restored to its original beauty. Just so sad.
If you listen he’s actually talking down to me. You guys a real piece of work
@@ThomasDeal2 It sounds like it at times and then others no. He seems like a real piece of work. Does he give an explanation why he's allowing the once beautiful home go to waste? I was appalled at how he did sound offended that "vandals" have been taking items from the home. Do you wonder if it might have been him?
"I took the balconies off to have them rebuilt" bwa ha aha ahaaha sure ya did.
It’s condition is heart breaking. A decade later and I’m sure it’s much, much worse. Shameful.
We are a group of paranormal investigators out of St. Joseph, Missouri. We are located about 30 minutes north of Kansas City. We have been researching the history of the Sauer and Perkins family that lived in this house. We have read a lot of stories on the internet about the families and paranormal activity. We are currently trying to go through all of them. If anyone has information on the history of these families or paranormal experiences at the castle please email us at hauntedstjoemo@gmail.com

Is there anyway I can set up an appointment to get a tour
no
I believe it's haunted it has not had enough energy in it to manifest itself I'm willing to put my energy on the line
I do not live far from this house I would love to explore it so if anybody knows who owns it I just want to go look inside of it I have been drawn to this house for the last 20 years I cannot understand why but maybe if I was to go into it I would understand I am a paranormal investigator so if there's anyone out there that knows who owns it tell them to get a hold of me Cynthia M Calfas on Facebook I would really like to explore this house I think there is something that connects me to this house and I do not understand why maybe if I was to be able to go look at it myself in person maybe I would understand thank you for reading
you should join the facebook group and all of your questions will be answered there facebook.com/groups/Sauer.Castle
This was always a place we would drive by and take photos (from the outside). It's a shame that it's gone to hell that bad. It really is a gorgeous property. My question is, how did the owner not know the caregiver was selling stuff out of the house? Was he not stopping by and checking in on him and/or the house? Also, to the owner, it's said that the first owner hung himself, his wife later committed suicide and one of their children drowned in a pool on the property. Any truth to any of that?
I believe Mr. Saur died of t.b.
The original owner died of tuberculosis, his wife died of natural causes, they had an infant die shortly after birth (common for that time). Another daughter inherited the property, her husband committed suicide after a long depression (very sad) and then a pool was built, in which her daughter (granddaughter of the original owner) accidentally drowned. Considering the things that just happen over the course of generations, all of this is normal.
Too bad it can't be fixed up just enough for paranormal Investigations. The owner could make some serious money from that. Most places are charging $400.00-500.00 a night!
So as of a month ago it was up for auction? Anyone have updates on it?
Never officially up for auction although it has come close multiple times. Carl Lopp, current owner and distant relative, comes up with back taxes, excuses and lies to keep anyone from taking any action regarding the deterioration at the last minute while it continues to deteriorate until yesterday. A judge ordered it boarded up on 12/14/20 and it was by the City and lots of law enforcement. 😢
@@dclayton1672 so very sad. I hope they don't condemn it. It seems to be the fate of so many historic landmarks lately. The preservation societies don't have the money to keep people on the landmarks to ensure they remain in good condition. 😔
I went by there April 17 2021 still boarded up and 2 men were doing yard work it looked like Carl that I spoke to from a distance but im not certain thanks for the going up for auction info
So is he done fixing everything & living in the castle yet??? Yeah, I didn't think so...
Nice to see inside this historic house. Only got to see it from the road growing up. Would be nice to see it restored.
Glass is not a liquid.
Technically no but technically not a solid. math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/General/Glass/glass.html
I See that it is back up for auction- is there any information on it?? I actually worked on a restoration of a home 1815 loved the valence windows. I have had a love for historical preservation and certainly interested. thanks for the video as i wanted to see inside. Could you message me any info regarding the building, or sale so i can follow along? mmyers7408@yahoo.com
The tour guide is actually correct, but what he meant to say was that, glass is an "amorphic solid." Glass in a window sill will eventually become thicker at the bottom of the pane because of years of gravity naturally slumping the glass. You could probably pull empirical data with the use a micrometer to measure the thickness of the top, center, and bottom of the glazing. I'm thinking that this house isn't being repaired or restored, because the owner probably feels violated every time he visits the site. He made mention of a care taker that sold off all the possessions in the home... and, then the constant discoveries of things that are vandalized, or missing out of the house. The discovery of pissant pilferings of personal things that have sentimental value, it just takes a toll on the motivation of moving forward with 'fixing.' I'm sure that there are other factors, but the culmination of theft and vandalism are enough to halt progress on a lot of projects. If I were the home owner, and I desired the complete preservation of the home, but had no intentions of ever living there, or selling the property, (Emphasis on selling... neighboring low income rental properties are a real drag on real estate values) I would probably consider donating the entire property to a place like KCAI, KU, UMKC... Universities are more likely to utilize the space as an auxiliary campus, and the preservation of the structure could be realized. The structure would be preserved and could be utilized like a library, or campus coffee shop, with offices for security, faculty, faculty in residence... Thank you to the baby toting videographer! I've always wanted to tour that incredible home. Now, I'm content.
Derek Miller Thank you for your comment it’s not often someone have this type of insight and yes I’m sure it takes a lot of tolls and emphasis on selling this historic home of my great great grandfathers.
It would make more sense to restore it as it should be. There is enough interest and support for this site to make it a show place museum. If not, it will become just another loss to the area. The most recent video I saw showed the widow's walk fence has fallen or been removed. What a shame this beautiful piece of history is being neglected to the point of destruction.
@@sherimcneil3079 happens far too often in America.
so whats the deal with this? has it been abandoned since 1985 ?
It's so sad that the renovation was not completed. Even more damage done to the house by taking off the upstairs bedroom balcony.😪
I'm a bit late to comment lol, but this castle is also an ancestral building for me. Anton Sauer is my 5th great grandfather, and my current grandma still carries the Sauer name. It would honestly be a dream to visit this castle one day but it would be a bit of a mission to get there considering I live in another country. A shame the owner isn't doing anything to repair it.
Maddy email me at tdealphoto@gmail.com and I’ll see what I can do
I’m local in kc. We can talk
Restoration has started apparently
I drove by it today and it's covered up on three sides by scaffolding. Also lots of macherery around the castle and tons of building materials scattered around the castle. And the new owners apparently live in the house just next to the castle within the fence, because the gate was open and there were 2 cars in the driveway of that house and it appeared to be lived in. I've grew up in Kansas City and have seen this property in various states of disrepair over the last 30 or so years... I am SO INCREDIBLY happy to see that there are finally some steps being taken to preserve this rich piece of Kansas City history, and US history for that matter considering this is one of the first private homes to have indoor plumbing in the whole country!
I would LOVE to see pics of the wine cellar built in to the side of the cliff behind the home! I just realized recently that it even existed, and I bet it's pretty amazing too. Anton Sauer was certainly a man who liked and could easily afford the finer things in life.
So, it's 2020. Has anything been done to this place? I remember my dad driving us by what we called "Egor's House" as a kid and getting super scared! As an adult I would love to see this place fixed up. However, it doesn't sound like that will happen. So sad.
Amy Fruit I just came upon this house tonight when I was driving in the area and was in awe of it. Super cool architecture, and definitely an eerie feel to it, especially on a Cole winter night. Hope they do something about it...
Why did people call it Egor's/Igor's house? I'm not from the area and am curious
It’s now back on the market for auction.
@@erintechnoviking - it has never made it to auction. The owner comes in town and pays the back taxes at the last minute. He just paid half this past week but a Judge ordered it boarded up 12/14/20
Drove past this yesterday... still falling apart and looks like nothing has been done.
that would be correct
I lived directly across the street from the Sauer Castle at 936 Shawnee Rd from 1985 to 2002. Me or any of my family members never saw any ghost, no hauntings in or around the Sauer Castle, that was and is a myth (only stories). Mr Berry lived in the Castle for many years and he said he had never experienced seeing any ghost. All he had experienced was vandalizers; that would continually damage the property. When Mr Berry died, his brother had an auction and sold all he could from the castle. Individuals came from all over the US and other countries. Individuals came wanting to use our phone to call their backers. People offered to pay to park on our lawn and my husband wouldn't have it. lol The lady we purchased our home from was in her late 70's, she told us of growing up across the street from the Castle. She said she remembered when it was still owned by some of the original Sauer family; she told us of experiencing large parties on the Castle lawn. She also said they would have opera singers perform from one of the second floor balconies for entertainment.
Patty Parker thank you so much for your comments. It’s nice to hear positive thoughts and memories about this old home.
❤
I am not sure why I'm so deeply intrigued by this castle.
ditto
So pathetic he's not restoring this beautiful piece of history
Patrick Scott couldn’t agree more
Is there any chance of your cousin letting people at least do paranormal investigations of the property?
Nicholas Carpenter who knows ... not many realities respect him enough to even talk with him. My guess is no but money talks
not really crazy about this angle but we can do better
You ask for sugestions in your inflatable pool video, but how can someone react when you turn the comments off?
Love this at 3:44...it’s like the seam in Wizard of Oz where the sepia was spliced with the Technicolor! It goes from gray and “dingy” to a brilliant burst of color.
