Games are for my entertainment. I want good gameplay loop, badass females/males that are idealized versions of themselfes and good world building/artistic design and that's it. I have politics/reality outside of my home... which I way I don't like leaving it :D

I play games for its pure fun mechanics, engaging story, and beautiful visuals. I absolutely don't need any political opinions or any self insert plugged to my game. I'll leave my political views in real world, leave my escapism in game alone :D

It looks good- I think we're far from the point of getting a full game where the 3d model has realistic physics... though that'd be amazing. Maybe a sim/dress up 'game' will.

Yup, Bioware used to make some of the most immersive RPGs- Veilguard makes you feel like you're reading a crazy person's journal

I remember DA2 got massive hate - so I borrowed a friend's disc!

​@@soulure It's nothing short of a miracle that DA2 came out as good as it did in 14 months (more questionable art direction choices though). Still, the team only realistically got 10 months in full speed dev (you need to finalise way ahead for console certification), and expectations were high after Origins.

I can only speak for myself- I thought Dragon Age Origins was absolutely amazing, loved it when it came out. DA2 I disliked the combat, and the maps felt way too copy paste, but it was still overall pretty good. DAO really felt like it captured a dire situation and a grim world, right away you had warden recruits dying brutally to set the tone, and everyone is terrified of the dragon and the darkspawn. VG, it's almost everything is a problem. And it feels like they've forgotten major parts of their lore- one of the characters has an actual line that is 'everyone loves dragons'- in a world where dragons cause more death than the bubonic plague.

It really does feel like it'd only take a few easy changes to fix this- though, they'd also need a new writing team, as funny as the specific scenes being spread are to mock, that terrible writing is pretty much the whole game

They were hinting at ME5 returning many of the original trilogy characters, but seeing what they did in VG to all the DAO, DA2, DAI characters I have a feeling ME5 will do three things; advertise their cameos a lot in the promo, have their personalities be very different while they just validate and praise the new party, and they'll effectively be in two scenes then vanish

When I was a kid, playing NWN and KOTOR, would have never believed Bioware would end up being ridiculed by everyone for having some of the worst writing in gaming.

True, this year has been absolutely fantastic, many unknown studios doing very well, we're even getting indie games lately like Palworld, Vampire Survivors that are becoming multi-million selling games. It's great to see alternatives to AAA flourish and I hope it continues.

GOTY is largely decided by journalists, activists and industry insiders- there's a reason it can sometimes go to games that the average player hates, and it's getting worse/closer to what the Oscars do- where the 'best picture' is often a bunch of movies nobody's heard of or watched. BW has sadly lost pretty much its entire team, sadly 2010'ish was its peak.

I don't know what the population of America has to do with anything.... In order to break even on the project they would To have sold roughly 4 1/2 million copies Internationally.... They sold a small fraction of that and so far have lost about $100 million...

From a strictly technical standpoint- to be a success, the game would have to sell enough to make revenue greater than an amount that would be approximately: budget of the game + delay costs + marketing less the cut from the platform (steam, sony, MS). Plus, the expected return, basically, whatever shareholders expect the profit to be for them to invest in stock rather than something else, which is probably around 15% since it is a risky industry. All in all, if they spent a total of $200M on the game, they're going to want around $350M (pre platform cut) revenue

Yup, at some point they can either fix their studios if we stop buying the games- or they can go out of business. It's good to see picking a fight with gamers is not working for AAA games.

Yeah, they were desperate for the slightest hint of it not being terrible- after journalists completely lost on Concord, Dustborn and SW Outlaws. They are way too invested on making sure certain AAA studios do well, no ethics remain.
