My grandfather, who was from Scotland, knit his own socks because his feet were so large he couldn't get store bought socks that fit, and with the fact that my grandmother had 8 kids by the time she was 24, there was no one to knit his socks for him. My grandmother did knitting and sewing (on a treadle) for most of the family. They taught me to knit at 5. A real blessing, to be sure.

Hi! Are you putting two strands at a time to increase the density/thickness? If I wanted to use one strand at a time in the same size mesh, what thickness of yarn do you recommend? What about acrylic vs cotton? Why use one over the other? Thanks for your input!
