ZenPop's Final Japanese Ramen Box (July, 2024): An Unboxing/Eulogy by Noodle Journey
This is another flavour that I want to try, but none of the asian stores close to where I live have it in stock.
As it stands currently Cheese is my favourite of the Buldak flavours that I've tried (Lovely Hot being a close second). I do want to try Quattro Cheese at some point, but none of the asian stores close to where I live have it in stock so I'm not able to get it.
Kimchi is my least favourite of the Buldak flavours that I've tried.
Do you take antacid pills after eating spicy ramen?
I’ve had several Indomie instant noodles and I find them good but not exceptional. I don’t see what the fuss is outside of Indonesian folks wanting the home team to win. I do like the separate packets to customize the flavor however. That’s a great idea.
I know the Nongshim Shin review was the first one and didn’t have an overall rating but would you rate this better than Shin? Edit: Forget the question. I see you do rate it higher than Shin. I’ve ordered some. Not sure it’s worth double the price but we always love trying new things so we will see!!
Nongshim Shin is the reference spicy ramen I compare all others to. I’ve found some that are as good in a different way but none better. Sometimes I switch up the noodles from other ramen to try the Shin flavor with them. If Nongshim sold the udon noodles from NeoGuri with the Shin spice and vegetable packets I would buy that over straight Shin ramen.
Haven’t tried this one yet but I’ve loved Shin for a long time so I’ll give it a go. Nongshim Shin has been my reference product for great instant ramen for a long time. I love to try new things so I’ve been expanding my instant noodle horizons.
I put the flavor on NeoGuri as more clam/mussels than fish. I find it to be quite good and a good change of pace for packaged noodles. The noodles in this package make the experience though. The first time trying it, the noodles didn’t look like udon noodles but they have the right amount of softness and chew and are very good. I usually like a little more spice but I can always add that if wanted. As-is it has a decent flavor to spice balance. I’ve made this with mussels and onions or shrimp and various other ways and it’s quite nice.
Just watched this and wow, this is a very diverse top 10 list. I love a bowl of noodles (usually ramen, udon or soba) with onions, eggs and (sometimes cilantro) for breakfast in the winter months and I'll have to try this list.
Thank you for all of the reviews. These look like a nice diversion option from the standard Nongshim and Samyang noodles I usually get. Looking forward to trying some of these.
What chopsticks are these?
The ones in this video came with my bowl set: www.amazon.com/dp/B0892Q82XY, however, since those were getting a little worn down, I more recently started using these: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CF9RGXQS.
Bring it back!!!
Hey dude! Do you know if these guys went out of business? Because I am down to one jar of the chashu pork topper and i can not find them being sold anywhere currently. I am getting worried my fav is gone for good...
Hi there! I just reached out to my contact at Ramen Toppers and they got back to me almost right away. They are very much still in business and ran out of stock due to overwhelming demand. They're planning to be back in stock next week and will even have fulfillment by Amazon now for faster delivery. So definitely keep an eye out for the restock.
@@thenoodlejourney Thanks Dude!!!! that is very good news!!!!
How would this one compare to the 1/2 spicy Lovely Hot flavour?
I cover that a bit in episode 96 but Light was slightly spicier, slightly less savory, and had the air-dried noodles instead of the regular Buldak noodles in Lovely Hot. The major difference is that Lovely Hot is still around, while Light has been discontinued.
Is it true that this flavor is coming stateside this year?
I haven't heard anything about that either way and I can’t find any press release indicating it. Where did you hear that it was coming here?
@@thenoodlejourney Someone on a forum, it's probably BS.
Yeah, could be just wishful thinking. But it's not impossible. After being available in Korea for years, Rosé has finally just made it to the US, so who's to say this one won't too?
I have some homemade chicken stock, and I have bags of ramen bae, & now I'm thinking I'll combine my stock, some kind of noodle or pasta, and some ramen bae thrown in toward the end of cooking. (And maybe some carrot, since I have some.) No reason it has to be only for ramen, right? I'm also thinking I need to start dehydrating vegetables. Not quite the same as freeze dried, but would suit my tastes.
Yeah, I mean, Ramen Bae is more or less the equivalent of those bigger dried veggie packs you can buy for soup stocks on Amazon. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work. Let us know how it turns out!
I love your account
Thanks!
I fry some bacon to add to mine with some cayenne pepper. Delicious!
Nice! Bacon in tonkotsu is a highly underrated topping.
What a smart channel!
Thank you!
I'd try it❤
Okay. Thank you
My favorite
Thank you
Facts!! @ rather eat spicy food than run a marathon! 😂
Hey Noodle Guy, Happy New Year!!! Appreciate the death-defying Ramen review. Keep them coming 🍜
Happy New Year to you too! I can't promise anymore poison fish noodles in the near future, but I have a big mountain of other new products planned out for review this year. 😉
I've seen Buldak Tteokbokki at my local Asian marker - in both the Hot Chicken and Carbonara flavors.
That sounds like pretty crazy flavor combination to me.. And with Udon on top of that? i'm gonna have to pick these up when i come across them and give them a go. Never even heard of these before
Also, if you decide to go a little less spicy powder use chicken stock as some of your liquid. Really use that either way for mouth feel.
Add a splash of mirin, but not too much, makes it perfect
Interesting, I've never thought of using mirin before. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to try it next time!
@thenoodlejourney a little goes a long ways in this, it's not teriyaki
2025 top 10 video coming soon? 😁
Haha, eventually, yes. Not super soon but I have been assembling this year's list in my head already.
I personally found the noodles to be unremarkable, and thinner than that of Shin or Buldak noodles. Nice wheaty flavour though, and can agree on the soup being underwhelming. Just wondering if you guys over there are typically paying $15USD for a 5 pack of international ramen? Or is that just wonky Amazon pricing haha
Most noodle packs in Asian grocery stores here are under $10-$12, with a few premium Taiwanese varieties hitting that $15 price. Otherwise, yeah, that's typical Amazon marketplace behavior. It's why Amazon is usually my last recommendation for noodle purchasing.
Doke Boke E is how it’s pronounced.
Just placed an order! Love the reviews and this video. Thank you very much! $60 with the discount for my order wasn't bad to provide so many meal toppings! Plus's, i qualified for the bonus package!😃👍🏼 It was the large fish cakes. 🥰🙋🏻♀️🙏🏼

Nice! Hope you enjoy.
I'm willing to try quatro cheese. I just don't enjoy painful levels of spice.
While Quattro Cheese is on the milder side of Buldak spice levels, it still is pretty hot if you're not used to spicy food. You might want to check out Ottogi Cheese Ramen for a milder cheese option.
Buldak is way too spicy for me.
If it was spicier my mom would like it.
She could always add some chili crisp or oil after the fact. Should pair very well with this.
That's SUPER ominous, how the fugu pack is on the outside of the container. Like: "last chance, we are letting you eat the ramen without risking death this was YOUR decision!"
This is exactly what I want from a noodle review channel! Thank you fr this! <3
My pleasure!
The review of the background music reminds me of like a blissful serenity feel like I’m walking through this spa of ramen
For the high end college student. Hell yeh
Probably an agaragar based thickener. They’re quite inoffensive and I have 2 packs of shin green in my pantry right now. Should have just added different, more firm mushrooms.
I enjoy your informative reviews, with the exception of your background "music" which is totally unnecessary and very annoying.
Any chance you’ll do a review on any of the other flavors next year?
Yep, I am certainly planning on it. Probably the Sesame flavor one at the very least.
To be clear, "Extract" is the key word in that, not Habanero. Pepper extract is a thick, oily residue from the peppers that is basically the closest thing you can get to "all natural pepper spray". You can get it as spicy as you want, it just takes more of less spicy peppers since you are basically collecting the capsaicin directly. That's why it's on the bottom of the list, if it wasn't it would be literally inedible. You can just a drop or two of it to make a large pot of food spicy. I personally despise it in products. It tastes "chemically" and "artificial" if it isn't covered up by other flavors and it has none of the actual taste of the pepper, just the burn from it. It's frequently used by companies that want to make a spicy product without paying for peppers or altering the taste, and in my opinion it usually ruins it. It can theoretically be fine if used responsibly, and I might trust Samyang enough to give this a try, but I look instantly askance at any product using pepper extract. Especially hot sauces where the taste of the pepper is the point. Extract is ONLY good at making something way spiceer than it should be with none of the other positives of spice. It's vapid! Sorry for the mini-rant haha, I just don't know why they went for extract in this instead of just peppers, like usual. I guess to keep the flavor of yakisoba sauce without making it taste like pepper sauce?
A five pack of Sutah on Yami for $6.79 !
That's a steal!
@@thenoodlejourneyAn even bigger steal is a 20 pack of Nongshim Shin for $17.38 on Amazon !
I just tried these, they are nasty 🤢 taste like paper the broth is alright but the seasoning doesn’t even help the noodle taste good it’s like it may need to marinate in th😮e broth so the noodles will have flavor
I can tell you from forcing myself to choke down the rest of these noodles after the review (to test if they really would make me full) that the actual opposite happens. That weird aftertaste in the noodles invades the broth and makes the whole thing even worse the longer it sits.
@ omg lol 😂 I understand because I forced getting the noodles 🍜 down myself, hoping overtime the taste would get better, the noodles definitely invades the broth, thanks for the review, wish I had’ve seen your review before I tried them
