We live on a formerly Amish farm in the Midwest.. Right now, we have chickens, bees. rabbits and quail. Our goal is sustainability. We have 6 adult children and 8 grandchildren. Some of the fondest memories we have as children include farming with our families. We endeavor to create those same memories for our grandchildren and teach them where our food comes from.
Papa Joe blacksmiths, keeps bees and is the rabbit/quail guy. Nana Cynthia is large and in charge of the rest of the animals. She is an avid quilter, with an online quilt shop, gardener, candle maker, soap maker, herbalist and all around explorer. :)
We try to be completely organic and are a registered Monarch Waystation, member of the Pollinator Partnership, member of the National Wildlife Federation and exercise a combination of Back to Eden and permaculture gardening.
We aren't experts by any means. but our ministry is to feed hungry people.

I got mine on Amazon. I didn't know about the fakes at the time. It looks to be a real copy. I have a question though. In the recipes section with the pictures, does yours start with 1? Mine starts at 48.
@jasminestarr2257 yes. Sounds like you got a good one! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@appalachianmercantile so yours statrst at 48 also?

@@appalachianmercantile thank you so much 😊
Where do you get the real book? Not the knock off. The picture for the one on Amazon looks identical.
So does the one on Etsy and Ebay. It's scary - you can tell the real one because the author's name shows. The knockoffs are also missing pages, blurry, etc. You have to order through the Facebook link. You may want to call your bank ahead of time and let them know. They come up as a red flag for fraud. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I live in OHIO and wish I lived closer to an Amish community. If nothing else the wonderful food and thrifting! I did finally get away from the BIG CITY of Columbus in 2010 to Licking County but sometimes I feel it's not far enough. The city keeps moving here! I never heard of Oak Hill but sounded so charming and quaint so I googled it. I don't think I've ever driven through that town. I've been to Indiana and Kentucky near your town though. So glad you landed somewhere you love! Also, don't ever forget to BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED! Nancy from OHIO

I just updated the description of the names of the books shown. I think I ordered that one from Amazon. I LOVE that one! Be blessed - thanks for watching and commenting!
Interesting! My grandmother was raised Mennonite and remembers making homemade Christmas decorations from dried fruit and popcorn and such. Simple decorations of course, and never a tree, but wreaths and candles seemed to be OK. I wonder how other anabaptist groups compare, like hutterites and the bruderhof.
@JacobRodgers-p7g I don't know enough about the Hutterites. Anabaptist is similar to Amish in that it depends on the church headship. The Mennonites have conservative and less conservative sects, much like any 'religion '. For the last three years, we've only put up our nativity scenes. The Amish don't even approve of that because of the 'graven image' commandment. Thanks for watching and commenting! I love to hear what others do.
Why are there quilts on your ceiling?
🎯
@@cl5193 This video was recorded in my quilt shop. We have quilts on the ceiling in the shop. :)
I like the way they celebrate Christ's birth into the world. I don't like the word "mas" after Christ and so I don't say Merry Christmas, and I reject the santa thing and the tree. But yes, I like the pretty lights and if I had children, I'd take them out to view the lights and I'd buy good presents for them, and have a special meal for them.
@@blueskies386 we've gotten to the point where we just put up 2 nativity scenes now. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Have you ever tried grinding it up in a blender and putting it in a stew? I've even seen it used to make a bread like "carrot/banana/zucchini/courgette bread". Just literally replace the amount of banana used in a banana bread recipe and you have your own delicious, dense, moist bread. If it's all blended up, you could even add it to oatmeal or cream of wheat, but you probably dont want to put it in your grits even though you can put some grits in your stews. It is definitely useful as an ingredient in sweet or savoury dishes.
I've never ground it up, but I do make soups, etc with it. I made fried andouille, potatoes, green peppers, onions and some of this squash for dinner the other night and it was delish! The squash really complemented the spicy sausage. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Are those the same as what is referred to as a long necked butternut squash? I got those one year and they were sooo good. BUT, the Amish market I bought them from sold out and moved back to upstate New York and the market is no longer. I found a new Amish market…3 to be exact but not one long neck squash🥲. Thanks for the quick visit!!!:):):)
@vickiulrich6694 they are trombocino squash. Slightly thinner skin and very delicious! We actually got some of the long necked butternut, too- by mistake. They were supposed to be drum gourds. Talk about disappointment! Thanks for watching and commenting!
