Why does everyone HATE Zelda Tears of the Kingdom now!?!
Tears of the kingdom use to be loved by many but over the past year it seems that this game is starting to get a whole lot of flack, and the big question on many peoples mind is.... why?

    My biggest issues with the games are the weapons system and the Minecraft elements of TOTK, and it's the same reason for both. 1. I HATE the weapons having durability. Aragorn would never have into battle with a sword that breaks when you use it against two enemies. He'd have been dead in 10 seconds. King Arthur never had to deal with Excalibur suddenly losing it's strength and needing time to recharge it's batteries. So why should Link be subjected to it? 2. As per the building aspects of Tears of the Kingdom, as I said, it's clearly meant to be Minecraft in a Zelda game. It just doesn't fit in a fantasy world. Plus, I'm not a creative person, so it literally takes me hours to figure out what to do in these parts of the game. I'm not kidding when I say it took me somewhere between 3 and 4 hours to finish the tutorial section of TOTK. By the time I was done with it, I had no desire to keep playing the game. These elements completely break the emersion. I don't feel like I'm experiencing a fantasy adventure - I just feel frustrated that I'm out of useable weapons, or that I have to stop exploring to build something to progress further. This just isn't what makes Zelda great.

    8:46 A better story? Far from it, it would be better if we were there as well in those memories (or had gone to the past with Zelda). BotW is alright in my eyes since it was the steppingstone to open world Zelda, I can't say the same for TotK. We'll just have to see what comes after Echoes of Wisdom.

    Haters gonna hate. TotK is still S tier for me, and I can still enjoy BotW too. The different abilities and Zonai devices make the way you traverse and explore completely different. In BotW I was running, riding horses, using the paraglider, climbing, etc.. In TotK I mostly used janky vehicles like bikes and air planes, and I constantly used the new runes for everything. The play style is different enough that they feel like two different games in their own right, and of course the dungeons and bosses are all different too. I also immensely enjoyed exploring Hyrule for a second time, eager to see all the changes, so I wasn't bored exploring the same map again. I have a feeling most people who hate TotK and called it "BotW with a bit of DLC" probably just played TotK the exact same way they played BotW, making the games feel the same. Or maybe they played BotW a million times and tired themselves out of looking at that Zelda style.

    ive been wondering about this trend as well. i was more reluctant getting into totk last year, it wasnt doing it for me. but picked it up 3 months later and sank 120 hours and now i absolutely love it. and i started a new playthrough last week and so in my reignited hype, i started looking up YT vids of the game and noticed this huge "i hate the game now" trend. not arguing ppls opinion or anything, was just surprised to see the backlash now

    It really depends on the circles you're in. "Everyone" is a large span. YOU didn't see any critique. Everyone around YOU loved this game. I went into TOTK optimistic (I was disagreeing with people left and right about it being a glorified DLC) only to be sorely disappointed nearly immediately. It's not "recently". You just SAW it recently. People have been talking about this since the game came out.

  • @Terracafe172

    I think most of the criticism of both these games boils down to personal taste. The dungeons are not trying to be the old dungeons. Like id get the criticism if the divine beasts were supposed to be the dungeons in the old games but thats obviously not what they were going for.

    They feel like a job. They, especially BotW, were great for the time they were released but they shouldn’t forget that they are a reaction to Skyward Sword and the aging original blueprint of Zelda games (plus SS specific problems). On the other hand people are saturated of Open World Games as a whole.

  • @calebmon

    I will not be able to understand the irrational and psychotic hatred of this game by fans. I do not get how open world Zelda is somehow bad. What? Do you people not like exploring? You want things to be in a linear hallway so you don't get lost? It will be Open world forever now, get over it. It's an improvement not a bad thing.

    I find that BotW and TotK have extremely fun gameplay and totally think we can have a mix of linear and open world Legend of Zelda games. I especially think we should have open world exploration and linear dungeons. Where I personally have an issue with TotK was that BotW had this amazing expansive world that had so much world building in it. Many mysteries and new lore that were interesting. The TotK totally ruined it by ignoring all of the world building, lore, and mysteries BotW introduced and basically pretended like it never happened outside of just the Calamity. We never got a good explanation on what happened to the Sheikah, the Zonai reveal was kind of disappointing, so many NPCs from BotW just seem like they do not remember Link. There is almost nothing that TotK did to expand on BotW's world. The sky islands seemed so cool, but ended up lack luster and very sparse. The depths was a nice surprise at first, but very quickly lost the appeal. I'm generally someone who doesn't even follow the bandwagon either. I always loved Twilight Princess even when it was hated and I actually kind of appreciate Skyward Sword despite its issues. I even love and still play TotK. I just found it was disappointing. Half on me because I set my expectations too high, but also half on Nintendo for not expanding on the rich abundance of lore, mysteries, and the world as a whole that BotW introduced. Not to mention how the story in TotK is so poorly told. It could have been good, but only if it was presented in a better way and maybe focused more on Zelda in the past.

    What do you mean? People have to play the game to find out if it's trash or not. I hated TotK as soon as I had played enough of it to properly judge it. The game design is objectively bad. That does not mean that people don't like it and it does not at all mean that people are wrong for liking it. We all like objectively bad things all the time. Big does not mean good. Having a world full of nothing, except of course the awesome stables with so many fun activities to do, getting sidetracked to explore cool caves with interesting enemies, finding a korok seed under a cool puzzle where you lift up a rock is all parts of great fun to be had everywhere. Not to mention the joy of exploring the different flying isles or venturing deep underground to explore and explorative explorationial area full of variety and cool enemies that the Zelda series has never seen before is cool and good. That's part of what makes TotK awesome to no end. Doing the same fun things over and over never gets old. Whoops did I praise the game ironically? I suppose I did :)

    The fact that people want this franchise to completely regress itself and not innovate and evolve at all just because "linear better, open world the worst thing ever" is just completely insane to me especially with what BotW and TotK accomplished. You can have a 3D Zelda game that's open world and still innovating and evolving things in great ways while having a linear story and intricate and lengthy dungeon designs, all without regressing the entire game design by making things much worse and limiting when they really shouldn't be. Zelda was always meant to be an open world franchise from the very beginning, they couldn't achieve that vision until BotW because of hardware limitations and so they had to stick with what they had for a while until the linear format got so stale and had to really evolve Zelda further to make something fresh again (and can still do now) and the fact that diehard Zelda fans themselves don't even comprehend that is just unbelievable to me. Zelda is the perfect type of franchise to be open world and with what BotW and TotK accomplished, they both show that they are perfect templates for the franchise going forward and like I said, they can still make open world games while having some linear intricate elements in them without regressing the design. Regression is just not a good thing in game franchises and the fact that people want Zelda to become a worse franchise by making it stale and un-innovative (if that's even a word) just because of "old better, new bad" is just so annoying to me and I genuinely think the hate these two games get is so unwarranted especially with how much good they did for the franchise. I'm not saying these games are perfect because they aren't and I have my problems with them too, but to say that Zelda should be completely linear again just because you think open world is bad and you don't want Zelda to push itself forward, is just ludicrous to me.

    I like open world games. If Nintendo wants to stick to open world then I welcome it. However, if they are going to stick with an open world they need to make that open world feel more alive. Populate it with more cities, towns, and settlements. Add npcs that roam the entire world. Add quests that are more than just a task that unveils a shrine. Also, add classic dungeons with unique puzzles and dungeon items (give me back my hookshot please). Add a story that is happening and the impact of which can be felt . If nintendo can add that stuff to an open world then everyone would be in love.

    I hadn't played a Zelda game since Windwaker (Which was always a great game) and I picked up Tears Of The Kingdom recently skipping Breath Of The Wild and while I don't dislike the game it just doesn't feel like a Zelda game. I find it somewhat boring with how open (and big) it is. My biggest issue with it though is the durability system. It makes me want to avoid combat entirely. I also find the abilities and having to construct things and whatnot to be extremely slow and tedious. Also Ocarina Of Time is timeless and will never feel dated.

  • @yozarian86
    @yozarian86 9 дней назад

    I personally like BotW more right now. Tears seemed like it improved everything, but after getting close to the end I got so bored I couldn’t finish. The only major flaws totk fixed are the stamina drain and the boss fights. Fans wanted TotK to be a fusion game. Mix of classic format and TotK. Hopefully Nintendo finally gives that next time.. though at the rate they release new games, I’ll be old by the time the next one comes out. They do have the ability though. The Gibdo attacking the village in Tears was probably the best part of the game. Devising a strategy to defend the town. A modern impact. It’s like a modern, better version of that scene in the mountain in final fantasy 7.

  • @CrazyCaboose009
    @CrazyCaboose009 9 дней назад

    It's good to know that we can finally critique these games and not have ppl say we r just hating on a popular game. Since BOTW's release, my thought on it was: its a solid open world game, but a terrible Legend of Zelda game. the dungeons were terrible, the combat felt...off...all weapons broke even the MASTER SWORD?? The series isnt new to breaking weapons. the Giants knife and deku stick were weapons that could break way back in Ocarina of Time, but they weren't the main method of attacking. I don't necessarily want a more linear experience. All of the Zelda games r open world to some extent. Even if they r segmented by loading screens, u r still traversing a large world. The issue with BOTW and TOTK is that they r just chasing the trend of large, empty worlds. The other main issue i have is that besides stamina and hearts, u r as powerful at the start of the game as u r at the end with no new tools being added. I want a sense of accomplishment with finding items and discovering secrets in the world; maybe remember an area i saw a while back that needed the item i just found like in a metroid-vania. For me I just want them to make the open world filled with meaning and maybe not quite as large, put actual effort into the dungeon designs, and let us find equipment, whether in dungeons like in prior games or in the world as a reward for exploring. There r some other things that need addressing too im sure, but these r the main things that would make the next game a best of both worlds situation.

    Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are in my top favorite games of all time now. They actually have more in common with the original zelda in many ways. I love the freeform aspect to it and the way the story is presented. They are next to Elden Ring for me. And as far as zelda games go, my next favorite is the snes zelda. The creative freedom allowed to the player to solve their problems is amazing.
