Honda CB200 bottom end engine strip down Part One
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.4 года назад
I came home from work at the Hospital and Steve had decided to strip down a Honda CB200 engine. We had bought the engine for spares when we were renovating Olive (my CB200), the engine was in a bike that had stood uncovered, with the spark plugs out for years. We have already taken out the camshaft for a fellow biker who needed one, together with the oil slinger for another biker. Here is Part ...
Cleveland Black Bantam Project 2020 Update
Просмотров 444 года назад
The chicks hatched back at the beginning of January 2020 are growing well. I have kept 5 out of the 7 hatched. I have one non Cleveland Black Bantam pullet which I will keep for eggs and a possible broody hen. Out of the 4 Cleveland Black Bantams, I have 3 cockerels and 1 pullet, I will see how they develop and choose which, if any are suitable to carry on with the breeding program. The parent ...

Cleveland Black Bantam Breeding Program Update - December 2019

It has been a bad year for breeding, I didn't want to start too early, then the hen shed was struck by the dreaded red mite. My hens stopped laying and even though I got the red mites under control they then went in to a moult. I decided to build a new coop and change the ground they are housed on to hopefully stop the blighters moving with the hens. I had all but given up when one of my young ...
Honda CD185 Project - Part Five - Shaping the foam seat
Просмотров 2824 года назад
I have started shaping the foam for the seat, it has worked out quite well, but there is a lot more work to do on it before it will fit in to the seat cover. Good news on the exhaust hangers, thanks to Steve's Spares Hull who sells Vintage Japanese parts I have a pair of them on order. This will save Steve having to manufacture another one and will mean that we can fit the rear foot pegs which ...
Honda CD185 Project - Part Four - Preparing to make the seat
Просмотров 3344 года назад
We are waiting to hear back from a parts supplier about a set of used exhaust hangers. If they aren't too expensive it will save Steve a job making the left hanger and we will be able to fit the rear foot pegs which have locator lugs. Getting the parts together, ready to start making the seat, the sponge is really dense so will hopefully be good. It isn't thick enough compared with the original...

In 1983 Honda equipped the CBR400F with REV, described as "revolution responding type valve pausing mechanism".This system enabled switching over the number of valve operations per cylinder between low and medium speed revolution range and high speed revolution range. Here is a short video demonstrating the change in tone and rapid increase in revs when it kicks in around 9,000 revs.

    I went to look at one of these advertised, fully intending to buy it. But when i saw it realised it was far too small. I always thought it was the same as the x7 apart from the cc but its in fact smaller than the gp100. The seller had about 7 old 2 stroke twins in his garage, all mint. Plus a 800cc ktm, plus a Blackbird, both of which he'd bought new. On the drive he had a 1 year old mpv type Audi and huge caravan. The funniest part was, he house was a council house. Mad eh. Thought I'd share.

    I had a GT185 which was my 1st proper bike at 17 in 1977(started aged 11 off road on trials bikes) so a close relation to this machine & have riden on this road for close 50 years. We used to have fun there during the 80s. It was known as the Helmsley TT but during the 90s it was all spoilt by the police & these days every t#at with a dascam turns it over to the police & you are f*cked over for having fun if you some much fart whilst riding these days. Back then we used to have midweek "practice" & again on a Saturday, with actual race on a Sunday setting off from Suggets ice cream shop in Great Ayton. But from Helmsley there was a great road that went on all the way to Bridlington so we usually went there for a cuppa tea/coffee before return "opposite " leg Helmsley-Stokesley run.

      @@classicmotorbikeenthusiast7287 when reassembling how tight do they go back on I can’t find a spec. I tried tightening down all the way and it seems like it’s torqued down to much bc the push rod doesn’t seem like it’s disengaging the clutch. Like the pads are stuck bc of how tight it is. And there’s literally no pressure on my clutch handle. It goes into gear but when clutch is pulled in on gear the wheels are still spinning and will eventually stall out. Or if you try to roll the bike in gear with clutch pulled in it won’t. I tried listening the four main bolts on the clutch and it helped with the pressure on the lever but still wheels move with clutch pulled in gear and that’s an issue. Everything was fine before I pulled everything apart to replace the pads with new ones. I was dealing with some slipping at high rpm’s which is why I even started to replace them. Did I everything in the same order as taking them off. What am I doing wrong? I’m about to just put the old ones back on and pray it’ll go back to the way it was. I’d rather have a slightly slipping clutch then a bike that can’t even roll out the driveway lol pls lmk thanks

    • @classicmotorbikeenthusiast7287
      @classicmotorbikeenthusiast7287 Год назад

      @@TheDANIEOROZCO When reassembling the clutch, it will need to be adjusted. Firstly though, please check that you have put everything back in the right order and the bolts need to be tightened/nipped up, as it is the springs that create the pressure for the clutch plates. Here is a blown up diagram of the clutch for you to refer to images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/honda-cb200-england-right-crankcase-cover-clutch_big00025862e03_0471.gif If the link does not work, search for CMSNL and put your model bike in and select the image with the clutch on. Check that the clutch friction plates slide freely in the clutch hub and are not snagging in the slots. For the clutch adjustment. 1. Check the clutch lever for free play at its tip (Specified play: 10-20mm) 2. To adjust the play, loosen the lock nut and turn the upper adjuster into the lever under the locknut, so that the cable is slack. 3. Turn the lower cable adjustment (where the cable enters the casing) loosen the locknut and screw the screw into the engine. 4. Remove clutch cover, two screws, this will reveal the clutch adjuster lock nut (part numbers 53, 35, 28 & 29 on the cmsnl diagram), loosen the nut. Then turn the adjuster in a clockwise direction, until you feel resistance or it comes to a stop. Then back it out 1/4 to 1/2 a turn, then tighten the lock nut. 5. Rotate the clutch cable lower adjuster until the play at the tip of the clutch lever is 10 - 20mm, tighten the lock nut. 6. Minor adjustment is done by turning the clutch cable upper adjuster 10 - 20mm at the tip of the lever. 7. Check to see that the clutch is working correctly. I hope that this solves your problem, please let me know how you get on. :)

      @@TheDANIEOROZCO When putting the clutch back together, you need to adjust it. First I would check that everything was back in the right order. If you have a look on the CMSNL website, you can search and get a picture of all the clutch parts, blown up in the order they go. Best to check that the clutch plates move freely in the clutch basket and are not snagging in the slots. For the clutch adjustment, do the following 1. Check the clutch lever for free play at its tip. (Specified play: 10-20mm) 2. To adjust the play, loosen the lock nut right back by turning anticlockwise and then turn the upper adjuster clockwise, into the lever, until it will no longer go any further. 3. Loosen the lower locknut right back where it goes into the engine. Turn the lower adjuster in a clockwise direction , as far as it will go. This loosens the cable. 4. Remove the clutch cover ( 2 screws) and loosen the clutch adjuster lock nut on the actuation lever. Turn the adjuster screw in a clockwise direction until resistance is felt, and then back it out 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Tighten the lock nut to secure the adjustment. 5. Rotate the clutch cable lower adjuster until the play at the tip of the clutch lever is 10-20mm. Tighten the locknut. 6. Minor adjustment is done by turning the clutch cable upper adjustment at the handlebar 10-20mm free play at the lever tip. You could also check that your cable is moving freely and not snagging. I hope this helps, please let me know, how you get on.

    This is so cool... I bought a 1975 CB 200T ( silver ) in 1981 which had 6200 miles on it...and it was pristine ... I rode the hell out of it, over revved it, beat the tar out of it. At 28,000 miles the con rod bearing gave out , so I got another bike wrecking yard motor and put in it. Then, around 40,000 miles, the transmission locked up between gears. I then did what you did and split the case open and swapped the good transmission stuff from my original engine I still had. I was 20 years old when I did this. No internet, no manual, just basic mechanical skills..... I got stalled out putting it back together and my Dad came out, looked at it, and figured out which way to put one of the shafts in...or something..... Anyway, I got it all back together...kept riding it for another 20,000 miles..... sold it in 1984 . This video tonight is the first time I have seen the inside of one of those in 39 years. It looks more simple than I remember it. I guess for a 20 year old kid back then, I did ok.... Thanks for posting this...

    Would be interested to see what sort of top end you get out of yours when it's fully up and running.. I picked up a really clean 79 CD185 in the Summer but can barely get it to 50 on a flat run and any incline brings it down to 40-45mph max . Not sure if that's normal as I'm not a light weight.. haha. Done the plugs/points and timing and valve clearances all seem ok, two different Carbs tried as well as a full rebuild on the original. Now I've got a weak spark on the right cyl which is causing right hand back fires so a coil swap is the next thing :). .. So jealous of how well yours fires up on a single kick and idles great.

      We had a backfire on my Honda CB200 and changed the coil and condenser which needed doing, the backfire was still there but not as bad. We then tested the wiring by disconnecting the original feed from the ignition switch to the coil and put a feed from the battery directly to the coil and this cured the problem. The wiring is 40+ years old so that could be something to try before buying new coil. DO NOT leave this direct feed on or it will burn the ignition system out. On the top end speed you are getting, it be down to the gearing on the front or back sprockets, check them against standard settings. A previous owner may have changed them to suit their needs. Another thing to check is that your points are opening on both lobes of the cam on the points. Or it could be your air filter, that can have an effect on the running. We have got the exhausts fitted now, but didn't have any exhaust hangers so are currently making some to fit as they aren't available any more. We will update with more videos and a report on the running when we get more time to work on it.

      @@classicmotorbikeenthusiast7287 Thanks for the reply and helpful hints, I already have a new coil anyway so it won't hurt to swap it, I've just ordered a condensor as well as this hasn't been changed yet. Good point to check points both sides of the lobe as I did only line the left cyl TDC with the firing mark on the ignition timing plate and didn't think to pop it 180 to check the gap.. The initial gap before I fiddled with it appeared to be nearly double recommended so it's possible I've closed up the right hand cylinders lobe gap too much by begin too exact for the left hand cyl. I'll let you know how I get on.. Good luck with yours ;)

    Well done. My starter sounds exactly the same at the moment. Did you use replacement brushes from a CBX400?

    • @classicmotorbikeenthusiast7287
      @classicmotorbikeenthusiast7287 5 лет назад

      I think that is one of the models it fits but with the Formula 3 model we have to be careful and find it best to give the engine and chassis number. That way if the part is wrong it is down to the supplier and they replace it at their cost. The part number we got was 31206mm5008 which is the holding plate and brushes.

    Beautiful bike. At the moment i'm working on a NC17 type 2 (The endurance) but i am having some trouble getting the REV system to activate; either i'm not hearing or feeling it correctly or there's something wrong with it. Is yours working fine?

      Hi Lazlo lel, thank you for your comments. Yes our CBR400F Formula 3 REV system is working fine. We have made a short video of it working, I hope this will help you determine if yours is kicking in or not. ruclips.net/video/Zb6zaaq9CiM/видео.html

      @@classicmotorbikeenthusiast7287 Thank you for your reply and the video. It seems as though mine isn't working properly as i do not notice the change in sound nor the increased power while riding. I've confirmed proper operation of the solenoid operating the REV system and the oil pressure. I'll have to look deeper into it I think. I've had to take the head apart when I got it due to some burned valves, i'm afraid i might have made a mistake at reassembly. Did you manage to find a workshop manual of the sort anywhere? i.imgur.com/a5UdVwU.jpg Is what mine looks like by the way. Its the 1984 CBR400F2.
