I got my second replacement motor, followed along again, and at that moment when you remove the shaft stop at 6:54...I got to hear my motor whizz out, losing all the tension. No idea what I did wrong this time, but the blinds are beginning to shred now where I move of the metal covers back and forth and I just cannot face buying another kit to get the same results. I guess I get to be the one where it does not work.
thanks for the video. Like most viewers I appreciate your step by step instruction. I did purchase the parts from your site. The most difficult part of the repair was taking off/on the blinds from their mounts. Ironically HD offers lifetime warranty on parts, however, labor is over $150, so it was still cheaper to purchase the parts and make the repair as instructed.
Alas, I watched this several times and then, when it came for me to do it, I had my headphones on and was concentrating on what was in front of me. Which meant I stupidly removed the shaft stop at 4:07...but as I only had one motor, that step was not for me. I found out at 4:48 when I heard you say "You don't want to release this." Sigh. I feel like such a twit. On the plus side, I have now been through the whole process once and know what to do right this time.
Well, it's been a year since I last did this, so I had to watch the video again. You made the process so easy. Thank you for the tutorial.
Thanks for stopping back again!
Hi, I bought parts off your site several years ago but every time I try to go to it now, I get an error code. Did the website site close down?
I was unable to find the transmissions or the motors for my Duette Shade Literise on the Hunter Douglass website. Did anyone else have any luck?
So helpful, thank you!
Thank you thank you THANK you for putting this video together. I broke my first transmission because I simply installed it on top of my existing motors. Learning from experience I decided I'd better have a harder look for the secret to installing the replacement part. I had a spare I bought (thankfully) BUT I didn't have the motor assembly. So what I did was I installed the transmission on it's own with the adapter installed and clicked it in place. I came in behind with with the motor assembly I had wound up (about 20-25 half turns) using a hex nut screwdriver adapter and with some assistance we got the two together. Unless you're really dexterous you're not going to be able to hold the spring tension with the screwdriver AND get the transmission installed. The process was less drama that I imagined. In the end, one of my strings was shorter than the other so I've got a small tilt in the blind when it's down but, for now, I'm a happy dude. There is NO information on the HD website nor is there any support info on the parts store where I bought the transmissions. You, my friend, is why RUclips still exists. Thank you for doing this.
Do you remember if you tightened the motors clockwise or ccw? My transmission cord broke as well and it would be great to avoid buying motors if I can just pre-tighten the motors.
Do these motors have batteries in them?
@@MarkTarquini No batteries, the motor is driven by a pre wound metal spring called a “Constant Force Spring”.
Can the motor go bad when it spins out?
@@adhamcomstock4409 Yes the metal spring inside the motor can break or become dislodged from its mount when it spins out real fast due to the white cord inside the transmission failing.
Once again this video gave me all the info I needed to repair a Hunter Douglas Duette LiteRise lift. Thank you! Later, my wife called Hunter Douglas to get replacement lift tabs; they told her there is a lifetime warranty and sent her several for free. I purchased replacement motor and transmission on line, but they might have been free from Hunter Douglas.
Thank you for this! Found out there was knots in the ladder cords that was making the tranny pop. Couldn't have done it without ya!
This guy is my hero, did exactly as he said and super easy fix.
I have about 5 of these blinds in my house. What's strange to me is that, every single one has two sets of these motor/transmission/rod/spool assemblies in it. But only one is used. The other one does nothing as I expand and contract the blinds. Why?
Well shoot , Looks easy but leave it too me to ruin such an easy installation. Where are you located?
This video is fantastic. Thanks for making it and sharing. Easy to follow and save me time and money!
Interesting how the new motors/ transmission kept disappearing and had to be put back on again
Thank you for posting this video and selling repair parts at a reasonable price! (Quick shipping too!)
Thank you for making this video! I was able to order the right parts and make the repair myself on the first try. You made it so easy! 🎉
Thank you!
Okay, I wound it like you said, and it started clicking at about 20 winds so I stopped. It raised the tension but did not pull down correctly and made a clicking noise as I pulled it down until it was back to weak tension again. Does this mean my motor/spring is broken?
Yes motor is broken
Do you have an explanation on how to do this with top/down bottom-up version? I can't seem to figure out how to get the new motor and transmission to engage properly when installed. I think has to do with how the spools are set before I release the motor stop. Thanks!
Top down BottomUp shades are best done with two people. One person holds the shade so both the bottom rail and the intermediate rail are fully extended away from the top headrail and the lift cord will be bailed off both sets of lift spools. The other person will position the new lift assembly in place making sure the transmission adapter and motor adapter pins are seated into the punch holes in the aluminum slat. Slide the assembly back into the headrail and pull the white motor stop/lock off the motor to complete the procedure.
This guy is a rockstar! I followed the instructions but accidents happen and I lost the tension on my motors while reinstalling. I called him and he gave me a solution that worked. What a nice guy!!!
what is the solution?
Followed instructions and the string is still slacked?? Won’t go up. Help please
Thank you. This was helpful
excellent, easy to follow, video. I purchased my blinds in 2007 and this is third transmission break. Twice I drove my blind an hour each way to get it fixed. this time I fixed it myself thanks to your video.
Well detailed instructions for repairing HD shades. Exactly the thing I was looking for. I just purchased the necessary parts from you as a result. Thank you for putting the time into creating this video.
Thank you. Great video and really, a simple repair.
What can I do ir the blind doesn’t stay down?
Thank you so much for the explanation about dropping the shade making sure that's fully extended and then engaging the motor
Now these flimsy plastic parts really is a pain on the wallet
I haven’t asked HD for parts yet, but I heard parts are free. Provide purchase information and pay postage.
Ok,this may be a lifesaver, because the shade guys have no interest in honoring the warrantee. They just want to charge $130 to fix it.
If you do it exactly like he says, it works my husband just fix two of our shades.
Thanks for posting your vid your repair helped me sort my Luxaflex blind fault out. Appreciate your time & effort to help people out. Your a Champ👍👍👍👍
It’s much easier to remove the lower rail and pull the cords through than to mess around with deploying and lowering the shade.
Thanks for posting. Very helpful.
I purchased 2 motors, biege, for 2 shades. The transmissions are still in good shape and wound as it should be. Followed directions exactly per the video an it is not working properly. The internal lines a intact. Does not retract with out help and does not go all the way up. What am I doing wrong? Do the shade wind up spool shafts (3) need lubrication?
How in the world did the headrail slide off so easily? Mine won't budge
Can you re-tension the springs?
Bill your wrong all motors can be rewound if they are not damage, FYI.
Just a note about the motor: the motor might not be damaged it can be rewound .
Have you done a video on how to wire them?
Thank you so much for a very clear video on how to repair the Lite Rise lift. I have another one to fix so will be ordering more parts from your store.
When I did this it is pretty tough to pull down and the blinds are lopsided. Any thoughts on why?
Great video showing how to repair the transmission!! I do need help understanding how to secure the end of one of the internal strings to the spool. After installing the new trans and hanging the shade, the string appears to have come loose from the spool. ugh! Thanks!
how to reaper ultra glide
Fantastic tutorial with all the relevant details covered.
Excellent video! Couldn't have done it without your very clear instructions.
I have the same issue and was wondering that do I have to change all the 3 things (2 motors and one transmission)? Is there a way to find out what went wrong, the motor or the transmission? and just replace that.
Y'all are life savers!
thank you!!
