Hi Amy. I don’t have flash. Will it work with steady light? Also, where do you find your tall designed papers. I know the solid ones are probably oak tag. Also, 3rd question, can this be done in a lot room. I thought I would bring this idea to our camera club meeting.
Hello Paula, you can use steady or continuous lights. It’s actually easier to see unwanted reflections on the glass. So just keep adjusting the lights as needed. I get my paper from a local craft store like Michael’s. This would be a fun project for a camera club.

Excellent tutorial still relevant in 2024, thanks!
Interesting, Thanks Amy!!
I use my laptop, plain white background i downloaded and made it whiter. Turned up the brightness on my screen. put the plastics in front of the screen just used my polarizer, no film as the computer screen does the same job. Amazing colours. I also dont work in ambient light I close my shutters. Its so much fun finding plastics that work. Plastic ice cubes look great inside a champagne flute
Thanks for the suggestions- I’ll give that a try too!
wow, such a cool effect!
Cool effects. Color pattern in plastic caused by stress points when utensils were made. I’ve used a simpler set up - polarized light source instead of polarizing sheet. Light sources include TVs, laptop and tablet screens displaying a white field.
Thanks for the insight and ideas
nice images and experiment
Thank you
Awesome use of polarize light👌🏼
Excellent video! Wow what vibrant images!! ❤
Thank you!
An excellent little project! Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thank you!
inspired , but please how did u do this up side down water glass.
I discuss this in the hideo
Great overview. Just starting with macro and starting to really enjoy iT. Can you recommend a good ,sturdy tripod something good for indoors and outdoors?
Tripods come in many different heights, materials and prices. A reasonably priced solution would be an Fotopro travel tripod. I have the Xgo model, but Sherpa and several others of theirs would be good for you too.
I am taking you class on Jan 30... I see from your video that you have the lens Olympus 60mm Macro.. that I just bought and can't figure out... that is great and thank you
I am happy to help you with that lens.
Fun project. Where did you find the glass with the wavy stem?
A local second hand store.
Hi, what kind of in have you used in this video? Thanks
thanks for this great explanation of the properties of light!
Thank you for a sensible explanation on light! New to photography but know the importance of lighting
Very nice overview. Practical and straightforward.
I like your videos but this one sounded like you were drying a load of rocks.
Amazing!!
hi I tried photographing my sunglasses and tried this method in photoshop it is giving a ghosting effect how to improve it can I send you the result on mail the content aware has created extra overlapping sunglass I tried focus stacking method for first time yesterday
Very well presented and helpful! Thank you!
Hi Amy, great tutorial I'm just about to try this myself. However, did you actually use three camera flashes as I can see one on your camera too. Thank you
I’m glad you enjoyed it. The wireless flash transmitter is on my camera, it’s not a flash. The transmitter just triggers the two flashes. Great question.
Too bad you didnt show the all set including the difuser
This is so cool! I like the one at 5:40 cuz I think it would look really nice but with inverted effect
Very hard to see what’s going on in your bowl. It would be helpful to see photos as you go along.
Very hard to see what you doing. You need more light or a clear glass container.
Yes she need lightttttttt
What happens if you don't have flashes?
Use a continuous light source.
Interesting, Thanks
Really can’t see what you are doing. Pity you didn’t use lights.
😍🌹🇫🇷
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Your work is fantastic. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you
Thank you for the inspiration...
Awesome photos. Very creative ideas with unusual perspectives.
Beautiful shots
Nice indeed. Many thanks and much appreciated. I wish to ask you two questions. 1. are these inks acrylic inks? 2. How did you isolate ink in photoshop or any other tool?
Yes, these are acrylic inks purchased from a local art store (Michael’s). And the drops isolate themselves. I use Lightroom to boost contrast slightly and that is all.
Hi a good video but I have a question the picture with the three glasses where in the middle is turned about how is it made as I can see there is liquid the middle glagg how com... 🙂
The sound of the videos is not good
Clear message, clear structure, easy to understand, thank you
Love this Amy! Thanks for sharing!
Your videos are wonderful!! I have a passion for experimental photography and just started making short videos from my experiments. Your work is beautiful and resonates!
Is this in the latest version 11.4? Can’t see it
Hi Amy, thank you for the inspirational video. I used our wedding crystal that had some interesting cuts on the outside that created double refractions. I used Minnesota Viking colors of purple and gold. I had a lot of bubbles in my distilled water that I spent a lot of time cleaning up in post. I even poured very slowly in order to mitigate the bubbles. Do you have any tips/tricks to minimize these pesky bubbles? Thanks!
Thank you for your comment, I pleased this worked well for you. One solution to mitigate bubbles is to let the water stand for 24 hours first.
are you using youngin cy-20 flash units with remote triggers?
I am using the Yongnuo YN560iv with 560tx transmitter.
@@amyhornphotographer6721 Do you happen to have an aff. link for amazon? I'll try to get one for my nikon, thanks!
Great demonstration, thank you 💫
Thank you!
Can you recommend extension tubes for the Olympus OMD EM mark 1. Thank you
Call B& H or Adaroma.
Excellent explanation and examples. I think as I’ve got older (maybe wiser) I use centre and spot metering more
