I teach people how to swim and I always take the people who I am teaching how to swim to the deep part of a pool or a lake a few minutes after I start teaching these people how to swim. I take them to the deep part of the pool or lake while they are holding me and I make them swim in deeper water soon after they start learning how to swim.

Such a great advice! So many people focus so much on strict rules of learning the stroke they forget to have fun and allow themselves to be curious. That includes “serious” competitive swimmers. Have fun, learn about your body and enjoy the water 😊

What’s one new approach you learned that could make managing mixed skill levels easier? Ready to give it a shot?

To gain confidence in deep water, I went in a different direction... - Rather than relying on a wall, I practiced bobbing up and down using a similar technique to Drownproofing. The intent was for me to understand my own buoyancy enough to realize how much air it takes to be neutrally buoyant just below the surface with the ability to get air whenever I need it. - After this exercise, I would say I'm still not a strong swimmer, but my confidence comes from being a strong breather. The key is being able to breath out for at least twice as long as you breath in. That's usually how I start preparing myself before actually going under the water. It works like a charm, and I truly feel like its impossible to drown now.

I just found your channel as a adult beginner swimmer and I must say, your videos give me encouragement to get more comfortable. I have been struggling with fear and thats what has been holding me back. A couple of days ago I started just getting in the pool to get my body comfortable with being in the water.
