I apologize if I sound critical, but as a 17 year old dumb punk who played this game when it came out, it truly changed my life and made me the person I am today with its forward-thinking, postmodern existential themes. I feel quite bad when this game is played by steamers for the first time as they talk over the cutscenes and don't let the meticulously crafted presentation (including that eerie main menu, which was meant to evoke existential paranoia) swoop over the player. Sure, videogames are still viewed as disposable entertainment, but every once in a blue moon, a game has the potential to offer a paradigm-shifting experience and MGS2 is indeed such a game.
