Well Dai opera is not a very widely-popularised opera form because non-Dai people won't be able to understand. I haven't downloaded any Bai opera shows on my comp yet, but may do so soon. However, from what I know off hand, Bai opera is performed in standard Mandarin, unlike Dai opera.

Well, they do not have their own dramatic opera form, so they have to take reference from something they can learn from easily, and definitely they turn to Chinese opera. As such there is a strong Chinese opera feel there.

Both Yong and Cantonese opera has the same roots, but diverged into 2 different opera form. That's why the tunes and usage of cymbals and gongs sound the same.

所谓的“官话”，据我所知就是带有地方腔的官方语言。就好像台湾的乱弹（北管戏）也是用官话，但听起来就好像闽南语味很重的话语。正字戏的源头应该没办法查证了，明初时候安徽和江西两地大量的军队进入陆丰碣石卫建立军营，为了不让士兵们在闲睱时喝酒闹事，就从外地请来用官话表演的戏班来表演，逐渐地就融入了当地音乐特色而成为了正字戏。

@@AaronYap and then there is BaiZi Xi 白字戏 also from that part of GuangDong; which sounds even more 'Teochew' - the music/even cadence is Teochew Opera - but the language sounds Teochew with an unfamiliar Hokkien accent!

@@OperafanSingapore because the dialect of Hailufeng area is closer to Hokkien than Teochew. In fact the people there generally consider their dialect to be more closely related to Hokkien than Teochew.

你这说法我还是第一次听说过，但也是错的。歌仔戏在两岸长期断绝的环境下，分成了台湾歌仔戏与闽南芗剧两个分流，各自发展。因此，芗剧与台湾歌仔戏就存在了许多“我有你没有”的曲调，但硬说芗剧附属于台湾歌仔戏是错的。

I believe there is some distant relationship between Leizhou opera and Hainanese opera, since it's just separated by a straits. But I have not researched much into the relationship between them yet.

The language used here is Guangxi 官话. This opera form actually has the same roots as Cantonese opera. In fact in Guangxi, Yong opera is often known as "old opera" while Cantonese opera is known as "new opera". So possibly they were split off from the same ancient opera at a certain point in history.

@@AaronYap I though I I did in the cop song "lawful fruit" until I looked up the lyrics after I made that comment.

The music and gestures were from Dai culture, which might have links with Khon of Thailand and Laos, but the dramatic elements are borrowed heavily from other forms of Chinese opera, since the Dai people did not have such traditional drama before that.

@@AaronYap This is not original Tai folk mythology but derived from an epic of ancient India called Ramayana. Multiple versions can be found throughout Southeast Asia, not only Thai and Lao but also Shan, Burmese, Khmer, Javanese, etc. Thai and Lao versions are called Khon using elaborated masks as part of costume. I realize this is Ramayana from the male protagonist with ten heads called “Ravana” and the monkey-like actor called “Hanuman”. The actress should be “Sita” wife of “Rama”.

@@AaronYap 谢谢回复! 闽南戏曲: 高甲戏的表演唱腔和音乐很像潮剧。梨园戏和南管戏好像有点关联，非常优美细腻典雅。 台湾的北管乱弹戏和四平戏好像有点关联，像外江戏。

@@ongsoohock6635 其实高甲戏的音乐比较像梨园戏，因为都是南音体系，只是又融入了民间小调和潮汕音乐。四平戏与北管戏其实是两个不同声腔体系的剧种，但后来，四平戏因不敌北管戏，也舍弃了原本的四平腔，融入了类似北管戏的皮黄腔，因此后来的四平戏基本上与北管戏的区别就小了很多。

可以这么理解，赣剧是个多声腔的剧种，它的其中一个声腔为弋阳腔。所以，如果从传统的角度，弋阳腔是赣剧的一部分，而赣剧不同等于弋阳腔。然而，随之时间的推移，现在的弋阳腔剧种与赣剧的弋阳腔剧目可能会有些许的不同。
