I attended the UK's Black Lives Matter protests earlier today and was delighted by the show of solidarity from the tens of thousands of people, of all races, who were in attendance. George Floyd's murder at the hands of the Minneapolis police was not an isolated incident in the US, rather the straw that broke the donkey's back! America is now in the flux of change and ripples of that change hav...

Last weekend, I had the distinct pleasure to shoot at London Fashion Week at Fashion Scout Events brand new location Victoria House, with my new #Nikonz6 Once again, I put the camera through its paces and it did not disappoint! One of the things I really love about is the ability to switch between shooting stills and film with relative ease (* I made an error a few times, pressing the ISO butto...

Great congratulations 5 years on i am just coming across you. I am a photographer but had not done anything like this. I remembered doing a Lingerie Adult Partý yes back with analogue film camera back then. I will like to meet you in person
❤️🍑🔥🍑🔥🫦
Great, straightforward advice. Thank you! I’m feeling very well prepared.
The guns real Big lol great info mate
Olaleye, What could you advise as a first step for a student like me with a passion for Fashion photography in order to attend such high level function? is there some form of registration and fee to pay? shooting a fashion show is a dream come true but I don't know where to start from. Please help.
You can call me Eddie... As you have a passion, create a portfolio and forward it to the PR company/s that are hosting the event. Bear in mind, PR companies prefer photographers who have been published, so this is something to think about too. Also, and this is likely to be more fruitful, at least in the short-term, do a little research and contact the designers directly, offering to shoot for a discounted rate, or even... and I hate say this... "for free", just to get your foot in the door!
Thanks for sharing! I’m a portrait photographer in Maryland USA, and looking to get into runway photography, the does one get started with no experience in the specific genre?? Anyone you can connect me with? Thanks again, very helpful information.
Contact the PR company for the fashion event that you want to shoot. They will ask for samples of your work, but usually they prefer photographers with published work, so also try and get your work published. Another way in, is if you contact up and coming designers who will be showcasing at an event. Offer them a service that works for you both. Connections are all about networking, so try connecting with photographers who are in the industry in your city! All the best for the year ahead and beyond
Thanks!
Do you get paid for your work on the runway that ending up on those news covers ? You mentioned it was your beginning ,if so ,how did you know what to charge or how to use the opportunity from your press pass of your first show(s)
Initially I had a mentor, who has worked in the industry for many years to help me navigate the industry. As a photographer, the payment for covering runway shows and the value of exposure can vary. Here are the key points to consider: Commissioned Work: When hired by a designer to photograph a runway show, I negotiate my rates based on my experience, the scope of the assignment, and the usage rights for the photos that I provide. It is crucial to have clear agreements in place to avoid any misunderstandings. What to charge: Look into industry standards and compare prices charged by photographers with a similar level of experience and portfolio quality. Also network with photographers, in forums and in person. This will help you establish a competitive rate while considering your unique circumstances. Keep in mind that pricing can be negotiable, especially when starting out. Gaining Access: If you're new to the industry, target emerging designers who are exhibiting at the event. Be open to discussing your rates with clients and finding a mutually beneficial arrangement. Emphasise the value you bring as a photographer, even if you are new to the industry. Alternatively, contact the relevant PR for the event to request a press pass. The PR will ask for examples of published work or links to view your portfolio, but when events are oversubscribed this may not be enough. Balancing Exposure and Payment: Being featured in news publications can provide valuable exposure that increases visibility and attracts potential clients. In some cases, the exposure itself can be more valuable than the immediate monetary payment. However, it is important to strike a balance and ensure that the exposure gained from press coverage aligns with the financial value you place on your work.
Such valuable tips!
😂 what fashion omg, makeup there, some are wearing pants and some only shorts with and thing on the uper part, fashion show is their to show clothes, then where r the clothes, . 😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you! Good job on your big achievement 🎉
Thank you
Congratulations!!! Amazing work and accreditation!! Thanks so much for the information about getting your spot at the runway and about aperture setting. I had thought F6 or F8 might help keep all in focus, but I guess as F4, as long as you're not 3 feet from your subject, you might then have crisp in-focus images. VERY good to know. Thanks so much for sharing!
Hey Huie, thanks for the feedback. It is worth trying F6 and F8, you'll get the opportunity to try different settings during the 'run through'. Then compare all the images and apply whatever you prefer. All the best, let me know how you get on :)
@Olaleye Media - Photography & Videography content Thanks so much!!!
Thanks, that was a very insightful video.
THANK YOU!
How much do you charge producers to book you?
Hey, my rates start at £250, but send me details of your event via my website contact page: www.olaleyemedia.co.uk or on instagram @olaleyemedia and we can take it from there.
Great video
Thanks
How does someone from the US get into London Fashion Week?
Hey Diamond, Apologies for the delay in replying. You have to contact the PR agencies associated with the show you wish to shoot and request a photographer's pass. Usually, they will need to see examples of your published work to before the consider you. Alternatively, if you are shooting for one of the designers, then they will cost out your entry.
I’m doing NYFW in September. Im excited, and nervous. This video was very helpful. The longest lens I have is 85mm! I hope that’s good enough. I’m going to try and invest in a 55-250!!
Me too! I'll be there and I'm watching this video as it's my first fashion week photoshoot.
@@ChipDizard well I’ll keep an eye out for you lol
Very helpful! Thank you!

I shot this show.. I remember you now. Nice shot of Martyn Roberts at 4'20"!
Really helpful, thanks very much! Liked and Subbed
Brilliant, thank you!
This is amazing . Can I get some more input about lighting.
The runways shows are pre-lit... and by that I mean you need to use the lighting setup of the show, without using flash or any other light source.
Great video! Tomorrow i will take my first attempt to do runway photoshoot. I search for tips and find yours, its really helpful, thank you very much, you deserve my subs. God bless you!

Dear content creators and enthusiasts, I hope you're all fit and well, given the pandemic situation around the world! It has been a tricky 3 months to be a creative, but hopefully, there is light approaching at the end of the tunnel. In order to keep busy while we were locked down, I launched a brand new website with content from other commercial work that I do and that will soon include some new how-to guides, my latest VLOGs ( A full review of the Nikon Z6 will follow this month) and my corporate work. Eventually, this new platform will replace this channel. So feel free to keep up to date with my content by following me on Instagram: @olaleyemedia checking out my new website: www.olaleyemedia.co.uk Also, check out the follow up video to this VLOG, if you haven't already done so: ruclips.net/video/lHWwmPim8kY/видео.html Finally, get in touch to send me any suggestions for reviews you'd like to see and questions on photography and videography. Catch up soon. E PS If you hadn't already guessed... I have switched back from Sony to Nikon. The original switch barely lasted 12 months, so for any Nikon shooters, you'll want to know why its best not to make the mistake that I did. Full details to follow in a week or two!
Do you crop your images to fit Instagram Or do you not crop
Hey Steve, I hate having to crop for IG, but sometimes I have to. Alternatively, I use an app such as 'Square Quick' to make the image square without cropping the actual image.
Can you tell me the process to get all those runway shots on the Lightroom screen at one time ...I have light room but do not know how to do it and I am not on a Apple computer I’m on a dell pc
Hey Steve, I'm not entirely sure how to a Dell works, as I have a Mac, but I assume its pretty similar. In 'Library' mode you can select the 4 squares image directly below the 'import' and 'export' buttons to get all the images on screen at once. If you want to select specific images to compare, hold down the 'ctrl' button (command on a Mac) and select the required images before releasing the button. Once your selection is complete, press the letter 'N' and all the images you selected will appear in a grid / row. I will make a quick video on my new IG page: @olaleyemedia later to show you.
i have been at a show 6 hrs before to get the best spot
Whoah!
i have a question i shoo fashion week la and i get lots of pics so how do i get my runwat shots published and where do i go to do it
Networking is an essential component to getting your work published.. Before the event you should network with designers, particularly up and coming designers, to see if they need an official photographer. Their work may be picked up by the press, in which case they'll ask the designer for an official photographs. In my case, I was the official photographer and the model in question is a legend in her own right. The Swiss press were keen to do a story on Jennifer Ann-Gerber's return to the catwalk.
Keep up the good work
Much appreciated
timely tips as I have been invited to a fashion shoot tomorrow and have never done one before so THANK YOU!!!!
excellent explanation and tips, thank. yes please bring us more video :)
Tomorrow 9 Feb 2020 is my first Shoot Backstage & Runway at London Fashion shoot i been watching as meany videos on this subject, feel a bit more confident by still flying by the seat of my pants!
Get there early and mark your spot in the pit (*take permanent marker), take your monopod and use the run through to perfect your settings! Best of luck!
Very well done dude. Keep up the great work
Great job my friend. How did you get your images to the national newspapers?
Unbeknown to me at the time... the legendary Swiss model, Jennifer Ann- Gerber, was headlining for the fashion house 'Rohmir'. Once the Swiss press got hold of the story (* Jennifer Ann-Gerber's return to top flight modelling), they wanted pictures to go with the press article.the designer selected my pictures, as the ones that best represented the brand. I am immensely proud of this achievement and have a copy of the newspaper to remind me to keep challenging myself!
How can I sell my runway shots
Find out who is exhibiting and at which show. This information is usually available on the hosting venues website. Network with all up and coming designers and offer your services. New designers are more likely to be interested than established brands. Also, you could try using some of the images on a stock image website (*this route is slower, but may provide some revenue when you least expect it) as generic modelling photos.
Hi why don't you make more vidoes like this? :)
Thanks for the words of support. I hope to release something new soon.
