I did this today at the new bedilington footpath crossing bc the gates locks where broken and was swinging about and then I found out the phone was broken too both of them but I did manage to get a network rail operator to help lol😅

No idea why they replaced the barriers, as there was nowt wrong with them. Did they re-use the old barrier boxes here?

Good historical record of some B+T level crossings. Sadly the boxes at North Seaton and Marchey’s House have been removed and the LCs automated as part of the Northumberland Line upgrade.

Why no klaxons?

I remember this crossing from when I was a kid travelling between my parents and grandparents in the late 70's and early 80's. Back then it still had the signal box and the barriers were 2 full length ones not 4. This might have been before the line was electrified as it was very much in the days of the InterCity 125 in their original BR colours.

It must be about 40 years since I last went over this crossing. I remember the road on the opposite side being a rather tight bend lined with trees, so you didn't see the crossing until you were almost on top of it. I don't think it had 4 barriers back then probably only 2 that went across the full width of the road. Did you visit the crossing at Hepscott? I think that was just a single track and I can only ever remember goods or coal trains going over it, so probably doesn't get much if any use these days.
