If price, weight and size of the body and lenses don't play a role than fullframe is the better choice, because the quality can better better, although in most cases only at pixel peeping. Enough professional landscape photographers with APS-c show this. In my world as a hobby photographer money, weight and size play a role, so there is no need for me to go fullframe.
Lovely stuff
Thanks. Twas a lovely hike! 😁

Amazing video
Thanks so much! Stay tuned for Part Two...
I was hoping you would reveal something that was NOT for macro photography :) Good tip, but I don't do macro photography. I was hoping for something related to the colours, some filter or something. Thanks anyway. Good video.
Ah well the good news is that I am currently making that exact video. Stay tuned to the channel - I'll be releasing it in the next couple weeks 🤩
The Laowa 65mm f2.8 manual lens is so light - Tend to keep it in my backpack for this type of photography.
I've also looked at some of the small 65mm manual options but ultimately I find the focus bracketing feature so useful that I need autofocus for my workflow. I do often get tempted though 😂
@@JoshNathanPhoto must admit, considering the OM system cameras for incamera bracketing. When using peaking on my sony gear, the laowa has been really good.
Photos are AMAZING 💚 Some of the best images I've seen of mushrooms and without a macro lens - WOW!! And a very cool hack.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you liked them. Sometimes this set up is all you need especially if you don't mind a bit of the surrounding environment (mossy logs in the foreground or trees in the background) in your shots and it helps to tell the story of the image as well.
@@JoshNathanPhoto Yup that's exactly the appealing part of the images. I own OM's 30, 60 and 90 macro lens and regularly use the 30 for exactly that reason. But after watching your video, I'm going to try some of the extender tubes with a prime lens and see how it compares.
@@jeremiahmontana oh cool. If you truly need to get mega close, a dedicated macro lens will probably win but for a lot of fungi this versatile set up works well. I've seen some lovely images using portrait type primes and extension tubes. Good luck! 👍
Superb photos!! Great info and logic!!
Thank you!it's a fantastic time of year! 🍄
If your on Mirrorless already, lenses should be better in quality. Full frame is the no regret option & can be bought _'used'_
@@Stop-All-War yes there are a lot of good lens options out there - even third party lenses are 95% as good as Sony. When it comes to used gear it all depends on the previous user, no matter what the sensor size is. 🤞
I don't think I'll ever get rid of my 7Riii. It really isn't as bad in low light as people say...i returned the Riv because that was actually bad in low light. I think the 42mp sensor was one of the best made in terms of being a good middle ground between iq and noise. I wish they built on that sensor more instead of going to the 61mp.
I agree the 42 megapixels is a real sweet spot that I suspect the A7 line will take up within the next few years. Even for file handling I always found the images a real pleasure to edit. Some shots I've seen with the 61 megapixel sensor almost look too detailed. One of my main gripes with the a7r3 was autofocus too. I was in Iceland photographing Icelandic horses in a snow storm and the camera kept missing focus which was the final straw for me 😂
@@JoshNathanPhoto I never really put my trust in AF no matter what camera. Scenes like that im f8 at infinity on manual
Personally for landscapes I think M43 is more than good enough. They have about 20 megapixels these days and you get more DOF more easily, far smaller kit, excellent IBIS and stabilization, also, in my opinion with a long telephoto the subject in the distance seems to allow more DOF, relative to waterfalls and the like. In apsc, to me Fuji lenses are best and can get great resolution. No other manufacturer really treats aps with any respect, lens wise, in my opinion. Plus the more mpix the more you need a lens that can deliver it, and the more you need good stabilization. I can probably get more effective resolution on an apsc Fuji 24 mpix than my 5Dsr if I hand hold a shot and depending on the lens, although mirrorless models these days have good IBIS. I think it is more a matter of low light and higher ISO's where the real differences are. But I can tell you using the up res in lightroom on an M43 shot can be quite amazing. I see no reason for 95 percent of people shooting landscapes, to need super high megapixels, at least for work they do for themselves and even for a lot of client work. For real estate m43 is way more than enough and it provides superb images. Panasonic 7-14 lens is super sharp with excellent colors and contrast, it does flare fairly easily but when it does, the setting is easy to identify ahead of time. Best wishes, nice video, God bless!
I completely agree about all sensor sizes having their benefits. I know lots of macro photographers swear by M/4/3 for the stacking, ibis and close up capabilities. I've done professional architectural photography with full frame and apsc cameras and never has a client asked for more megapixels or anything like that. It comes down to what works with your workflow and if it makes your life easier and your photography more enjoyable then that's the main thing at the end of the day. 🤘
Everything else being equal full frame is
Ah I used to think so too. I have to say I love having a smaller, lighter camera bag. I can hike for longer and I'm much more likely to get out shooting with a more streamlined kit. 😀📸
@@JoshNathanPhoto but that's not what I answered.
I have been involved in digital photography for 16 years and when I started there were not many full frame cameras and cameras in general did not have the ISO range and resolution of the cameras of the last several years. You can use most any modern day cameras to photograph landscapes regardless of sensor size, what you do with your photos is another story. I have a 22 × 14 inch framed print taken on the coastline of Maine with a Pentax kr 12 mp DSLR and the old 12-24mm f4 Pentax lens, photo was taken on a tripod at sunrise an online service called frames by mail printed and framed in a matted ,black gallery style frame and the result is beautiful. Their are so many factors that go into taking a landscape photography that is worth framing, subjects, lighting, composition and photographic technique are more important than sensor size. Many people very seldom print their work and I would say that printing your photos is an important step to being a better photogrpher, it will make you appreciate your work that much more and you can see how good or bad your work is and give you a better idea of how to get better. Another way to get better is to learn basic editing of your photography files. Now matter if you shoot jpeg or raw files post processing will make your final photo that much better and give you the ability to critique your work, it makes you look more closely and by looking at photos that didn't work what went wrong. Shutter speed could be too slow or focus points could be off.
I was considering the a6700 for photography because it's a crop sensor and has great iso handling, for someone who only knows how to shoot from 105mm and beyond (say wildlife, macro, aviation and extremely compressed framing overall) and I was so close, SO CLOSE to getting it when I realized that it has only a maximum mechanical shutter of 1/4000, and the viewfinder was only HD720P reducing to VGA when autofocus and burst shooting, thing that my old trusty A77II never did. Then I thought the A7CII was my go to, thinking it had 1/8000th and the same feel, until i realized that the camera not only is also limited to 1/4000 but it only has a single curtain, which means you're going to get half hemisphere bokeh when you want to shoot fast moving subjects with a background full of tiny lights. So I am eventually going for the A7IV, it might not be as good for video but, I don't care, the camera is complete for photography and has a better autofocus than SOny A6700's sugar coated "ai ID engine" that only places a box around the subject of matter without determining whether the shot is going to come sharp or OOF.
Wow those limitations seem crazy when comparing it to your old camera. I actually have some eye issues and I find the EVF to be perfectly fine. Sounds like the A7IV is the camera for you then! Happy shooting!👍
@@JoshNathanPhoto yes that's because the A77M2 is a professional camera and the a6700 is a beginners hybrid. It is powerful, but we're already in 2024, all cameras of the range are powerful, if not better like Canon and Nikon counterparts.
a6700 doesn't have a stacked sensor - it has a back side illuminated sensor.
So it does you're quite right! Thanks for pointing that out. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the video! ☺️
I upgraded my old and trusty Sony A77 one month ago. After a lot of back and forth with really considering going full frame I went for the A6700 with Sony 16-55 G 2.8 and Sony 70-350 G lenses. And I am so happy with that setup. It is light weight (both lenses and the camera is under 2kg), good lenses are cheaper and the amount of functionality makes it versitile for all kinds of photography from wildlife, to street to landscape. I love it!
That sounds like a fantastic setup! I definitely considered the 70-350 - the extra reach would be nice and I hear the image stabilization is particularly good with that lens. I sometimes put on a 16mm 1.4 prime to do some street photography and it won't be much bigger than a compact camera then I also throw on a 100-400GM for wildlife shots and get maximum quality! All with one tiny camera!
adobe premiere has 10bit
one day the flipout screen is going to break an internal ribbon, you just cant stop fiddling with that screen, i have that camera too i cant stand you fiddling with that LCD
Why stop it there, Ban walking in the wood or just leave this.
Each to thier own.😂 Maybe a tad drastic but there are certainly some times of year when certain areas are easily damaged
wow a 12 shot focus stack! man that's dedication to get the entire scene pin sharp haha. nice work!
😂 To be honest I probably didn't need all the photos to complete the stack but that's how many the camera took using focus bracketing! 📸
Hey Josh! Nice video would love to have a clean wood such as this one close by! Agreeing with you on staying on paths and making sure wildflowers don't get damaged. It's not just other photographers, as often dog owners would also unleash their dogs into the beautiful landscape, possibly creating a fair amount of destruction. I guess there has to be something for everyone!
Totally agree about other people and dogs contributing to the damage. In reality photographers probably make up a small portion of the visitors to the woodland but seeing as we go there to photograph the beautiful elements of nature, we should probably be aware of where we are walking so that we can all continue to enjoy these places for years to come 🤘Happy shooting!
Wonderful video and gorgeous pictures. I really like your calm style, not rushing everything. I think it’s tempting to go off the path (at least for me), but sometimes we should hold ourselves back.
Thank you so much for the positive comment! 😀 Sometimes it can be unavoidable but these guys really didn't care 🤦
Beautiful video man, enjoy your wedding!
Thanks! It was awesome! 👍
Hi Josh, can you link the mount frame you're using on this camera?
Can you tell a bit more about the lenses you were using earlier with FF and the lenses you are using now? I just want to have an idea about the weight and cost differences in lenses if I choose a7c over the a6700 (both the bodies have similar weight and size).
Hi there, thanks for this review. What do you think about the Sony 70-350 compared to this one?
Can also speak highly about this lens. I've chose this as the only zoom lens in my Fuji kit. Having used other zooms, I realized for the most part, they are all compromising image quality, so instead of having to lug a couple zooms around, why not just get the 18-300 and have everything covered. It is so convenient being able to take this lens and maybe one smaller prime. For users of bridge cameras (ie. Lumix FZ1000, Sony RX10 III/IV, etc), they are used to this experience of being able to have a swiss army knife to approach any subject or situation. Having the 18-300 on an APS-C gives you several advantages, primarily the sensor quality over 1" bridge sensors as well as the manual zoom action. That said, the actually image quality in good light will be comparable to a bridge camera and in some cases the bridge camera may even be sharper (in the case of Sony RX10III/IV). There are so many ways to be creative with this lens, and once you get used to the ability to frame any shot the way you like, it becomes quite addictive. You just need to embrace the higher apertures and softer image look and be aware of the somewhat busy bokeh in some situations.
Nice review indeed. What do you think about the low light performance when compared to Nikon d5600.
For me there is a big difference. The Nikon definitely has a feeling of being slightly better than a basic camera whereas the a6700 feels like a premium product and delivers professional, reliable results. I've been really impressed with the a6700 for low light work. The a6400 is worth considering too...
Thanks @@JoshNathanPhoto
Falcam F22 / Ulanzi cage, et al, for the win.
Why do you need a rig unless you are mounting additional equipments to the camera? You want to keep it small and light and then you go ahead and attach a rig! The cover on sensor is actually the shutter. And shutter could get damaged too. Also please try 10 bit slog3 once then you wouldn't want to go back to 8 bit :) Good detailed review. Thanks for sharing.
I come for a canon 800D (APSC)... i think it's time to buy a new comera but can't decide between a6700 and a7cii. I want a portable camera for landscape and street photography!
Thank you for this great video! Planning to get the same lens, now without doubts.
It's such a good lens, I recently got it in Fuji x mount too... I might do a comparison video in the near future!
There's a L Bracket for the 6700 from Leophoto which does not block the screen as it's only a small addition to the left side, which is arca swiss compatible though Also you can shoot 10 bit in 4:2:0 which works in davinci. only 4:2:2 requires the paid version.
Wow I hadn't heard of that L bracket but it looks like the perfect design! It looks like they don't have any UK retailers unfortunately...
The a6700 is simply the best digital camera I have ever used and owned. I also have the A7R3, and what a fantastic camera it is. Still is. The but is that the a6700 has the focusing technology straight from the A7R5 and that made it even more special than my A7R3. Still use the R3 a lot but when it comes to birding or catching honeybees doing their job, it's the a6700. The focusing is on and it is quick. The handling is superior with a great grip very similar to the a6600. It's just comfortable to use, like a well worn glove.
I recently started using the Fuji xs20 which makes the focussing of the a6700 look even more impressive. I might do a comparison video soon...
Leukotape is awesome. For improvised bandais, moleskin replacement/blister care, gear repair etc. It's useful to wrap it around the lighter also. I'm surprised this video has do few fews. It's a good quality video. Thanks for sharing it.
I recommend leukotape to everyone that suffers with blisters and hot spots. Such a good product!

Thanks. I've been there quite a few times actually. You don't have to go far from the coast to get to some pretty epic mountains!
How can you talk about the best camera of 2024 in mid-January 2024 ? 🤣
I guess it'll be worth updating if another camera changes my mind
It's a promo for Sony A6700, what is there to understand😂
Fuji has better lens selection And a higher flashlight at 1/250th of a second
Fuji certainly has some stunning lenses but the added benefit of Sony is that you also have access to a plethora of full frame e mount lenses too if you wish!
Thanks for a thorough review. It is a lot of camera for the price point.
Thanks Michael! Agreed 💯
Great review. My only suggestion is to be a little kinder to Blackmagic Design when referencing the cost of DaVinci Resolve Studio. There is a whole company working hard on DaVinci Resolve software and I assume you are using the free version, which as you right point out has almost all the features of the "Studio" version. The "Studio" version costs $395 at B&H and INCLUDES the Speed Editor, a piece of hardware is worth $395 all on its own. On top of that, I have had the software for about 5 years and have yet to be asked to pay for an upgrade to the latest version. For pro-level software, DaVinci Resolve Studio is the best software deal ever. You are getting an even better deal, because you can use almost all the features of the pro version for free. So, to complain about the price of the software for what currently is considered a "pro feature" (10-bit video files) seems unfair to me. All the best.
You getting though that experience was worth a subscription. All the best.
Cheers Karl. Glad you enjoyed watching the video! 🤘
I am using Fujifilm XT5 and XS20. I love them so much. They are driving me insane.
They sound absolutely incredible! 🤪
Why this camera would be a better choice than a Fuji XS-20, or XT5 for example ? I never understand those self proclaim expert who claim that one thing, whatever you're talking about, is the best choice for everybody, without knowing their selection criteria : here "the best APS-C" or "The best lens". We are borderline in a scam.
Thabks for your opinion - we are all entitled to one and you may choose a Fujifilm camera, someone else may choose to shoot with an iPhone. I can't and won't claim to be a camera or tech expert because I am more interested in capturing images and the shooting experience than I am with testing all of the features that a camera boasts. I will say that I believe this is one of the most well balanced cameras that you can currently buy. It's not perfect but in the video I explain why I chose it over other options and my real world experiences over the last 6 months.
@@Ramble_on_productions You don't need to tell me "not to believe everything I see on RUclips". Influencers only work for them, to inflate their ego and their bank account.
A thorough review Cameras are like cars, there isn't a bad one any more
Thank you. Agreed. At the end of the day, the final images all look very comparable in the end.
A6700 is sweet camera
Indeed. It really is a pleasure to use!
I have had many shoots like this lol but there is always the next one to look forward too and days like this are just part and parcel of being a wildlife photographer.
Absolutely - there's never a guarantee when it comes to wild animals and if I'd have just left the hide and gone back the same way it would have been fairly uneventful but I really wanted to maximize my chances of seeing something and ultimately dug myself an even deeper hole in terms of the flooding. Oh well , I can laugh about it now and as you say there will always be other opportunities in the future 👍
I have the A6700, Sony 16-55 f2.8, Sony 70-350mm f4.5-6.3 and the Sony 11mm f1.8. It is a great setup for hiking and kayaking. The 16-55mm resolution is superb. The bulb mode which allows you to go past 30 seconds is really important if you want to use a star tracker or long exposure. With the bluetooth remote you don't have to touch the camera once everything is set up which really helps with a star tracker as you don't want to touch the camera and ruin your alignment.
That sounds like a fantastic set up. I can't say that I've tried using a star tracker - they look a bit too complicated for me 😂 but the Bluetooth remote sounds very convenient when you don't want to touch the camera at all.
Hey Josh! that's my neck of the woods! really enjoyed watching you explore the reserve its a good one albeit a little easier to navigate when its a little drier.
Hi Drew! Thanks for commenting ☺️ It definitely seemed like it had potential - there was a fair amount of birdlife, some trees with great character and conservation grazing going on. Have you had success finding otters there? Any tips you have are more than welcome! 😁
@@JoshNathanPhoto I’ve seen them a couple times in the last few years. Usually in the later afternoon. Not managed to get a clean shot yet though. A lot of the river reserve areas in Milton Keynes boast otters it’s definitely a high chance of seeing them here
Yes with so many well connected lakes and wetland areas it certainly looked like the perfect habitat for them to hunt in. Hopefully I'll have more luck next time 🤞
