Jokermen Mindset, with Ian Grant and Evan Laffer
Does creativity wane as we get older or can artists get more interesting? This is an exploration of the Jokermen Mindset.
Ian, Evan and I talk about their pod, Jackson Browne, approaching music with an empty head, Dylan’s Philosophy of Modern Song, when artists DO just get shittier with age, Albini & Steely Dan, what song would a group of Canadian bachelor party bros sing together over a cliffside?, “mid TV” and boring art, Hackney Diamonds, Steven Hyden, Fountain of Sorrow, Gawker, and Jackson Browne as the PG-13 Warren Zevon. The current season of Jokermen is about The Beach Boys. It's beautiful, go listen.

Why Bright Eyes "Neely O'Hara" is so Vital
Просмотров 1348 месяцев назад
Neely O'Hara appeared on the Every Day and Every Night EP a whole year before Radiohead released Kid A. That's OBVIOUSLY not to compare the two in their influence on experimentation and electronic sounds in indie rock music, but it's noteworthy! You hear those elements in this song, which paves the way for what the band and Mike Mogis will do on Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. Neely O'Hara is a s...

If you have one downtown antique store, it's just an antique store. If you have five antique stories, you have a destination. It's so cool, and fitting, that Oberst started off making these DIY lo=fi recordings in his music, but only recently has the opportunity come to kind of match this in his interviews with the access to internet content levelling the playing field. He is better suited to a podcast nterview than any kind of music article sin the past could do justice to, well done. And also, fair play to Connor for doing it, because your "lo=fi" setup is so in line with the album formats he created. Writing about birds is cool.

I love that too. I chose to believe it was poetic that both of us had such horrendous connection. Honestly the only reason it's legible at all is that we both hit record on our iPhones and set them on the table so that the audio was captures separately without the connectivity issues. Anyways thanks and LO FI FOR LIFE.

Fun interview. I discovered Bright Eyes through a girl who sent me Lover I Don't Have to Love during the pandemic to imply a certain something. Conor's music has stuck with me since, insane how much a 21 year old version of himself during LIFTED got so many mature and complex feelings laid out across it and let out in such a magnificent way. Truly is one of our greatest musicians.

Oh, he hears it, but it doesn't register whatsoever, because instead of TRULY listening to Jackson, he's got this big ego to feed. Yup. Know this. You are a horrendous interviewer. To do this to Jackson Browne is disgusting. Jackson simply goes along, as he's far too polite to hurt this guy's feelings. Guaranteed - Jackson will NEVER give him another interview.
