RapidX 100Ah lithium battery review - the CHEAPEST I could find
Cheaper than AGM! I do a basic runtime test of the RapidX 12 volt 100Amp hour battery. At AU$288 (US$215), its one of the cheapest you can find on Ebay or Amazon.
Any other tests you'd like from me? What did I get wrong? Please tell me in the comments.

Shaun Micallef 2013 Year In Review Part 1
hi, my jimny makes the same noise at minute 3:05 of the video. do you know what it could be?
Bloody great
I also have this issue. noticed that my transfere case is tilted and the rear drive shaft is touching the back of the transfere case when under load I am trying now to lossen the brackets on it and straighten it up to see if that fixes the issue and well of test bushhings and maybe add washers lets see how this goes 😅
It worked
Rebuild the transfer case people. Seals and the bearings are worn. Amazon has a kit for under a hundred bucks. Also the output from the rear differential is worn out on this samurai, as a result of driving with the transfer case bearings being worn out 🫣
Hi, sorry, what's the solution for this problem? This noise is terrible when the jimny is loaded, thanks for your help
has anyone managed to discover the problem ??
Would be handy mine makes that exact noise! Lol
If you still have it get rid of it, after 1 year of owning one dropped voltage and enough amps to run a waeco, so bought a renogy for a couple 100 more big diff. So I opened the rapid x for curiosity before I turfed it to find it full of battery liquid and corrosion. The battery has never seen weather and always charged with a victron . I camp off grid and will never go cheapos again
Well they don’t have the right but the can do it occasionally
You have to give way to the bus they have a give way sign on the back so they have the right to cut you off
I can't find these batteries on EBay anywhere - Just VoltX at nowhere near the price you paid. I assume that is a rebadge of RapidX. Clearly all these positive reviews made the manufacturer rebrand and up their prices.
Thankyou for sharing, I picked up a VoltX 100ah lithium battery for $329 delivered, its output is 50amps so paired it with a 600w pure sine wave inverter and put the battery in a battery box, very happy with the portable power station
Can anyone state if you can run these is series? I need a 24v for my application.
Mine was working fine for 6 months but has suddenly stopped charging. The voltage is stuck atb10V. Any idea what's wrong and how to fix?
sounds like BMS issue
@@davefjedi yeah, but how to fix it?
@@ChrisKirtley have you tried repairing it with a smart lithium charger?
@@phiromtauch6059 No - I don't have one. I put it on the solar again and the voltage is 13.5, but still will not deliver a load. What does a smart charger do? I don't want to waste more money😢
Where did you get this?
Wow you made a PowerPoint for this! The dedication!
Mines (2009 done only 67,000ks)groaned on fast first gear takeoffs for the 12000k's i have had it(same sound as around 3.05 minutes in), but today i heard a quiet bang, while coasting downhill in 3rd gear, and from then on she makes a loud scraping noise(bystanders turn and look) similar sound to a stone in a brake, or a bearing spinning in its housing, which comes and goes, mostly above 30kph, but mostly goes away when very slow. So i had to slowly limp home 60+km's(including hills)trying to avoid worse damage, although twice i got to 60 for a little while on the flat before it started again. Applying brakes lightly makes no difference to noise(and they work fine and smoothly), nor does putting her in neutral(but reduces as speed drops), but as its a pushbutton model, unable to put transfer in neutral to check if from gearbox. Notice a loud- ish clicking noise at each rear wheel when spinning them, but bearings feel fine and wheels spin smoothly(unsure if sound is usual for them or not- (edit, many say yes) possibly just being transmitted thru housing from inside diff - spider/sun gears? or some think abs related). Ran her up to 160kph on axle stands, and can not replicate noise with no load on her, nor by applying brakes to stalling point while still on the gas, all gears still working fine and smoothly. 4wd still seems to operate ok too. Drained transfer oil, looks ok. Drained gearbox oil, seemed a bit too bronze/shiny looking....., but no debris on magnet and not at all black. Drained rear diff, magnet had a thick very black gooey mess attached, and oil was slightly black, but no obvious large metal particles in it. (all oils were strained and checked, and only had some very small metallic fragments visible to the eye) All oils were last changed with correct ones 12000k's ago(by me), and never been used in water by me, but i do use redline revs in 2nd an 3rd gears, quite a lot. ps, did notice that same groan in deep sand, in first and second, the one time i was on a beach (sounds like an overloaded bearing to me). So thinking a diff issue, but do wonder if the first gear groan means gearbox output bearing. Unsure what to look at next, so thinking i will do like poster, and record a video while driving. Wondering if a bearing is spinning in its housing when hot..... Haha, just noticed age of thread, oh well.
Bearings in the in box, need a rebuild.
Thinking along those lines for mine, but perhaps my diff too? (see my post)
If you can't run a microwave from a 100ah battery, that's bad! Thanks for the review.
thanks for this test
Definitely keen to see inside these. Cheaper than aliexpress grade b cells. Has anyone tried series connecting them?
Ive had my two parallel connected and cycling everyday with no problems. Installed Feb this year with a 20amp renogy controller
Would be interested to see if i could switch it up to 24v in series
@@zacharyjohnson9582 Hi I have one of these batteries and its info says you cant parallel connect them, how did you do it? change the BMS?
There's a few more in the same price range now, one under the voltec/everglow branding that says it has 50a discharge/charge rating. Really want to see what's actually inside them & see some tests done on the cells they're using in them.
Thanks a lot for this review. Appreciate you.
Can’t find it for $215usd
Sounds like an old Land Rover Series.
Was just thinking mine was sounding a bit like one,(whining sound) just before events mentioned above happened. Was warned after buying her by a dismantler, that boxes were weak in them, and often die. (seen rear output bearing failures, destroying internals on a forum, and just now a repair post with full rebuild info that said -If you get horrible grinding sounds when cruising in 3rd and/or 4th gear, that's a sure sign that you most probably have this gearbox bearing problem, -talking about layshaft bearing), with mine seeming worst in 3rd , and it happened in 3rd, thinking could be it.
Quality prismatic cells inside ??
I have found an unusual issue with my example. Once the voltage reaches 14.1 on absorption (on a charger set to 14.4v), the voltage quickly rises to 16v and the BMS disconnects. Likely an issue with the BMS and/or unbalanced cells. Wonder if anyone else has experienced this?
It was super helpful! Thanks mate!
Can I use it on a 45 thrust trolling motor.
I ran a1200watt inverter with it, it worked perfectly
how long did you un it for?
@@YongLongLai I ran a 400 watt linear amp with it for 5 hours the battery was still 12.6 volts
@@alanvk5ar436 the rating of the inverter is pretty irrelevant. The 400w load is the power usage that matters fyi
Hey mate have you cut one open yet, I have 2 of these and are looking to cut them open use the cells and upgrade the BMS to 24v 100a, ps they are now even cheaper at AU$251 each
Not yet. I've been busy making a solar generator enclosure so not wanting to compromise the battery case
@@cgrecommended Ill let you know how I go when I cut mine open
Where are they $250? Interested for hole setup
Have you done this yet ? intrested in doing the same
thanks mate
That's shity they must put an 50ah bsm in an 100ah battery pack
I just ran a test using 3 Halogen lamps as load (13A). Used a similar wattmeter to one in the video. Got 108 Ah out of it with a little left in the Tank. I charged it first at 14.6 V until the current dropped away to below 1 Amp…. Very happy with it great value.
Their not 18650 they use 4 cells
My first discharge test on my example was supplying an Engel fridge via an on-line watt meter. Average discharge on this older Engel averaged around 45W. Discharge was stopped at 11.1v and total current drained was 103AH. Very impressive for the low cost.
How long were you able to run the fridge during that test?
@@TheRealitarian I ran the fridge to -18 to speed up the test so unable to tell you exactly. But on previous tests of 100AH LiFePO4 batteries on my Engel fridge set to 2 degrees I get about 4 days in warm temps (high 20s). Winter you might get a week, summer with a 50% duty cycle maybe 2 1/2 days. Set it on freezing temps in summer then duty cycle can approach 100% and you might only get 36 hours.
@@Rabs73 is that about standard for 100ah batteries? Thanks for your time.
@@TheRealitarian So many variables remembering most 12v fridges draw 3 to 4 amps so some models will drain 100AH in a day if running continuously, but you would only see that if set at -20 and left in the sun in summer. On average over the year 3-4 days would be the average remembering in winter you might get a week from 100AH and summer a couple of days. Remember even a 100AH lead acid battery will deliver close to 100AH at low power draws (at normal temps) but will be damaged by such deep discharging. Even cheap LiFePO4 batteries like this model can deliver all of their capacity for several thousand cycles although limiting to 80% depth of discharge will prolong the life further
@@Rabs73 thanks for all the info...that's really helpful.
I just picked one of these on sale for about $230, just to play around with as I have other better quality LiFePo4 packs. Obviously these have low specs (50A charge and discharge rated BMS) but would be fine for 12v fridges and lighting or even a small 300 to 500w inverter. Case looks like the generic one doing the rounds that looks to be clipped or glued together so will need to be cut open to have a look inside. But the terminals look fine so quality is not terrible externally. These are HEAVY for a 100AH LiFePO4 so I wonder if they use B grade or used 130AH cells, for example (that have degraded to about 100AH from their rated capacity)? I'm planning to cut this open after a few capacity tests so this will be interesting to see (and if the BMS, soldering and wiring is the expected low quality) . Even if these theories are correct but the BMS and cells hold out long term, these are a bargain for a camping fridge battery (amongst other things). Cheap, slightly nasty LiFePO4 instead of AGM is an interesting dilemma???
$230 AUD, which is about $160 US
Can you report back with your findings ? Or post a link if you make a video. B grade is certainly likely given the current rating. Unless they just cheaped out on the BMS. I wouldn't be surprised if they also have multiple smaller capacity cells in parallel.
As posted, I ran an Engel fridge off my fully charged example and got 103AH using an in -lne watt meter. It was charged to 14.5v.
I’d like to see a long term review of a battery like this. I feel like the Chinese factories that make these just dump millions of these into the market and just slap on different labels. While they all have similar specs, I’m suspicious of the lang term quality.
That looks like the bushings worn on the radius bar letting the rear axle slightly rotate under rapid acceleration and over bumps IMO
Thanks for posting the test results. Any plans to crack it open and show us what cells are inside? I'd be very keen to see! 50A peak discharge is pretty poor for a 100ah cells. Presumably they didn't just cheap out on the BMS and they're low grade or even recycled cells inside ?
I'll see if there's a non-destructive way to crack it open. Currently using it to charge tool batteries in the shed
@@cgrecommended I've opened a number of similar ones - they would most likely be glued/plastic welded so neatest would be dremel or hot knife. Then put pack together with epoxy
That peak discharge works GREAT for me and my trolling motor.

I'm guessing 2 of them in parallel would be good. Cheap enough. Can't justify paying $1500 for a 200ah lithium. But I guess you get what you pay for
Heads up mate, I've read that you can't parallel these bad boys.
Says they don't support parallel or series
I got a decent 200ah lithium battery for $820 delivered. So far, so good. I use this brand for CPAP machine battery backup. I had several of their 100 amp hour units. They don't have a battery case but the built in BMS units seem to be robust. Here's what they look like. ruclips.net/video/UwuC97gpng4/видео.html
I wonder if it will still work? Ive see. Batteries before say dont support parallel but they actually do. Think its just a way for mnaufacturer to not worry about issues

Hi we would like to feature this event on our social pages with your permission :)
hi does it get under pressure to drive while turning with clicking sounds?
Cars is long gone, no clicking noises but under load it had crazy vibrations. Was either transfer case output shaft/bearing or bent diff housing. I ended up replacing the diff and rear driveshaft to no avail. The problem went away when I removed the rear driveshaft and drove it with the front wheels.
