And this is precisely why I never watch commercial news or listen to commercial radio. I’ll stick with NPR & PBS…more in-depth and viewers/listeners who actually care wind up learning something from the stories…
A 10 year old video about Casey Anthony. Nancy Grace is not reporting the “News” she is making it “Fit” her audiences point of view for more ratings which equals more money. All news organizations and when I mean “ALL” news organizations based in the United States, has now developed that model. It’s no longer that they report the news they have to give their opinion on the news as well. Because news is now considered “Entertainment.” And “ Reading” there audience. If it wasn’t clear, then it is crystal clear now after the dominion lawsuit against Fox News. In discovery portion of pre-trail, we see documents from Fox News almost saying that when it’s concerning the 2020 election of calling Arizona for President Joe Biden. Their audience was furious with them, and they lost reading for a day, which is why they walk back the call of Arizona. Man, Aaron Sorkin, sure knows how to predict the future. It will be the death of the United States. In 1985 there was an interview on The Today Show with an ex KGB agent that defected to the United States. He was point-blank asked what is the strategy of the Soviet Union ti defeat the U.S. his answer at the time with laughable, but fast forward 30 odd years and it makes sense and it is why he’s being done today in the United States. He said you have to play the long game if you want to defeat the United States. You will never win a war with the United States as it is. So what you do is you suddenly put out this information and make the American public question the facts and truths. And when the American public is so divided that they start fighting with each other, that’s when the Soviet Union, without firing a shot, went to the war with the United States and takes over the United States. Now I am not saying that current day Russia is doing that, but what I am saying is it sure it looks like what he said in 1985 if you’re coming through today as we define ourselves, not as Americans, but we define ourselves as Democrats and Republicans. The term “country before party” is not true anymore. It’s rather “ Party before all else.”Please, prove me wrong.
Is the fast paced banter of this which demonizes the entire process of news not also given with an agenda? Not saying I disagree with the criticisms. Everything I’ve seen from this show has been good.
3:34 "NOOOOOooooooouuuu! He can't ever imply that the viewer doesn't already know everything and that she might be innocent." I love how he breaks down such a harsh truth with that voice.
The thing that always stood out for me is the use of the phrase "Tot Mom" repeatedly in the clip. Not once does Nancy use Casey's name. It seems like an intentional dehumanizing tactic.
This is a crash course in journalism all within a 4 minute span of this video. “Kaycee Anthony deserved better than a mom with a back tattoo. She deserved….” And every woman in there said the same refrain. “Me.”
MacKenzie McHale, Sloan Sabbith, Jenna Johnson, Lisa Lambert, Leona Lansing, what was up with Sorkin and giving so many of the female cast members alliteration names?
It's a classic device that help's the audience remember names. Superman did it. Stan Lee is notorious for it. Betty Bop, Mickey Mouse, Bilbo Baggins, Bam Bam Bigelow, Hunter Hurst Helmsley.
*Hypocrisy at its best.* The thing I love about this scene is that the members of the Newsroom are pretending that they don't do the same exact thing as Nancy Grace and that some how when they do it ... they're doing it for the "right" reasons.
@@timcox6272 Every episode ever? The Newsroom blatantly pushes an agenda. The character Will McAvoy outright says it all the time. No one is hiding their bias, it's out there for all to see. Will's "America isn't great speech" is pure regressive left propaganda at its best. The fact that you don't see this worries me.
I'd challenge you to find any coverage from apparently every episode where they use the same strategy as Nancy Grace. That's the whole premise of the series; Emily Mortimer's character was hired by Sam Waterston's to steer the network away from mainstream sensationalism and the FOX model of trying to _satisfy_ its viewers instead of _informing_ them. This put them at odds with the network owners who wanted to sacrifice journalistic rigor for ratings.

Ugh. Nancy Grace and Fox News: Tabloid lies and half-truths for ratings and money, and sex because Fox News made a conscious effort to have the female anchors show their legs to the camera. PATHETIC.
Those two episodes were hard to watch. It was like watching a brilliant artist being forced to paint in the trending style, they one they hate, but has no other choice because their clients like it and are paying big bucks for it. If they try something else, something more of their style and they believe is better, they’ll lose the clients and their money.
Fun fact, he plays the cop at the very beginning of John Wick who's apparently aware of his past bc he doesn't hassle him when he opens the door and sees the hitmen strewn across the floor. "Uuuuh, you working again, John?"

This show has aged into a fantasy because a dream team like this that actually wants to return the news to its former glory might never exist. American news is worse than ever.
After the jury is selected/seated and sequestered....it doesn't matter how much of a circus is happening out in the public ---the jury doesn't know about it. The only aspect of how 'tabloid' journalism would affect a trial is to influence a witness set to testify or a jury that is NOT sequestered and watches these crap shows...

I don't have anything profound or intelligent to say here, just a blunt "fuck the media".
Good lord, they just explained what happened to the media over the last 10 years in just under 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
What episode is this?
Don being the Judge Jury and Executioner of our entire Legal Media Industrial Complex.

I agree -- HUMANS have names, MONSTERS have *labels*.
Reminds me why I hate CNN so damned much.
How sad that a network, with morals, does NOT exist!
The best amd most honest scene of the entire series. It's funny how it ignores Don's tips on manipulation for every other subject
"I have enlisted a master of the Dark Arts." "I was summoned?" 🤣🤣🤣
