    The final minute is especially well crafted and syncs well with the music. I still have not figured out how the AI does the transitions so flawlessly in 2D. Of course, old school animators did it with reams of individual drawings. But I still wonder why some AI image generator does not take advantage of 3D?

      Good question! The first two shots are simulations of 'movie trailer posters in 2D'. I especially like the pulp sci fi novel cover art style, so I get a lot of practice with that. Maybe check out PULP SCI FI. Everybody hates the music, but the whole film is done in that style. They are pretty static as far as motion goes. I've done this a few times since the GALATEA series. That's a pretty fine detail to notice, thanks for the question!

    The Frostbite's captain melodramatically shouted out his orders - "Helm - set course for the surface of Europa. Ninety degree pitch. Speed: Three times terminal velocity. Engage on my mark ... Now!" The Frostbite pitched over and plummeted towards Europa's surface. Everyone, except for the captain, started floating. The captain had the foresight of fastening his seat-belt before issuing his command. "Captain, I think I'm falling for you!", exclaimed the blonde Yeoman, as she floated upwards. "I know! You and everyone else!", quipped the Captain with a smirk. "I did give the order to descend, you know." The rapid acceleration caused many to make pensive expressions and clutch their stomachs. The Chief Engineer cautioned, "Cap'n, we need to slow our descent or the Fros'bite will plow in ta' Europa!" "Maintain course and speed! I'll give the order when to slow!", replied the Captain. "Cap'n, I can'na change the laws of physics! We have to slow doon!" Just moments before the expected impact on Europa's surface, the Captain bellowed, "Helm, full reverse on my mark. Weapons Officer, fire a salvo of torpedoes at that enemy cruiser below... Now!". Simultaneous shouts of "Aye, Captain!" was followed by a massive lurch of the Frostbite as its decent stopped, as if it had slammed into a massive wall of invisible Jell-o. The enemy ship exploded in a spectacular fireball. "Now, engage weapon systems on all targets of opportunity. Let's show them what Frostbite is made of!" The invaders were dispatched quickly and effectively through the Frostbite's attacks. Not a single enemy survived Frostbite's onslaught. "They're dead, Captain!", exclaimed the Chief Physician. "I know...", replied the captain, "..but we came in peace!". The Science Officer opined, "There is no logic in attacking to bring peace...but I do understand it."

    (Spoken in the voice of Sir David Attenborough) In that dimension, the popular event is the "Style-off", rather than the "Dance-off". Everyone struts and preens for the crowd, as the music wails away. The lucky gal and guy winners for that evening's event are crowned 'The Diva and Don of The Dive'! Style-offs frequently sparked controversy between the participants. Often, one participant would feel slighted by another that may have consciously or accidentally copied their new clothes or hair style. The looks that some participants gave to others were as sharp and deadly as the stiletto heels that were prancing about. There was no small amount of 'trash talk' going on! A good time was had by all, rocking to the tunes and watching the competition and high drama that were always expected at The Dive.

    Approaching in their flagship Archangel, flanked by escorts Seraphim and Cherubim, the members of Winged Chaos could almost see the oppression hanging over the city, like a suffocating pall. Unfortunately, the security forces of the evil cabal detected their presence and sounded the alarm! Meanwhile, cabal leadership arrived in their gleaming sky shuttles. They marched into their iridescent control centers to coordinate their response to the surprise attack. They thought they had the might to repel whatever was assailed against them. They didn't know that they were no match for the supernal force that was Winged Chaos! At the proper moment, members of Winged Chaos leapt from Archangel and descended into the dank city. Soldiers attacked furiously with their weapons, failing to target the swooping avengers and only causing damage to the city. Some cabal leaders quickly lost heart and attempted to flee, only to receive swift, winged retribution. Attempts to bring out the cabal's big guns were quickly quashed by the combined might of Seraphim and Cherubim. They wrecked unholy destruction upon the cabal's forces. In the end, Winged Chaos was triumphant, replacing the cabal's evil stranglehold with their beneficent, gentle, but firm hands. Hovering over the liberated city, the leader of Winged Chaos surveyed the freedom they had fought to obtain and contemplated their next move....

    The 'fem-mems' of the USS Frostbite were frosty about the incoming thunderstorms and heavy rain. Having just departed the Frostbite's Salon, they were not ready to have their magnificent coifs sullied by the squall so soon. The captain was under high pressure to come up with an immediate solution. They thundered to the navigator to set course for the upper reaches of the planet's troposphere. Equipped with the latest anti-gravity footwear, the ladies were able to prance above the billowing cumulonimbus as if they were their personal catwalks. The gals felt like they were on Cloud 9 - or any number that they chose. I had some documentary about cinematography running in the background and I caught that a scene in STAR WARS uses a matte painting. I always thought the scene was a massive composite! What I saw was the artist painting several rows of stormtroopers. Now, every time I notice the paintings, it’s kind of like a stereogram, it emerges from the background! I really had no idea. It was awesome. Thanks for the explanation of the sinking ICARUS scene. It simply goes to show what an exceptional work it really is. The whole thing was a great experience. I began reading about ROD SERLING which has been very interesting, and will continue soon, as I have to strictly ration time under these new present circumstances. I was going to ask you about sequelae, because suddenly I became aware of ESCAPE FROM and BENEATH THE etc., etc. That is, until you said, “the various, countless, and sub-par-subsequent APES 'products’. That may say all I need to know. As I often run something in the background just sort of as passive noise, I ended up seeing this one movie 4 times! I feel like it may not belong in the discussion of max quality artistry here, but something about it charmed me. It may have been DOLORES FAITH.. Anyhow, it is THE PHANTOM PLANET, 1961. I am glad I got to see the colorized version first. Sets are not impressive, they look like spray painted foam stucco. If you ever happen to see it for some random reason, you should notice juror number three from the left (should be right about at 27:15 CCC ver.). Always interested in what you’re up to, so please do catch me up when you can. The AI system report this week would sound something like this: Finally gaining traction with proper/relatively accurate period fashions. I started with a certain type of sequined dress and it ended up being as stubborn a thing as nose rings have turned out to be. I spoke too soon earlier about influencing the nose rings. I’m using a more direct kind of instruction than usual that amounts to my directing the AI’s attention back to the specificity of the prompts as repeatedly as necessary. Our new muses are 7-8x more difficult, but are turning out to be well worth the efforts. Thus concludes the ‘nerd report’ for the moment. Sincere thanks for the great compliment! The metaphors are fantastic!! Your insight is the really valuable part. I very humbly accept the compliment. I did not notice the ANSA patches, thanks for pointing that out. Also, the ET M&Ms thing is so ironic. I’m not ashamed to admit I loved that movie! The rundown on Taylor was especially enjoyable to read, and you brought up SPACE:1999. This is going to require some viewing just to refresh my memory. I remember I love the style and it’s look. I will have to take some time with the musical scores, but yet again, I can’t believe you can do that right off the top of your head! A Fascinating history with ALL the details! I hope everyone likes my work this week. I’m doing my best to direct the Wildebeest. It continues to be the challenge of a lifetime. In a great mood this week, brimming with boundless energy as usual! I hope things are as well for you. Great round! Thanks!

    Why... Nuclear breaches/events never looked so good! MELTDOWN: Unbelievable results on the muses... it really is something to watch them evolve over the last few months. Their interactions with their environment amazes me as well; the touching (and soon twisting) of knobs and buttons, as well as the tech and readouts themselves, are top notch. More genuine life results with each iteration. Wow. The way your characters can walk right up to the 'lens' while remaining completely viable is downright stunning. All your subjects are so different; I loved PYROCLAST, and the mixing of fire (along with water, the hardest to pull off in miniature AND digital effects) is quite good. Also, my first two girlfriends were born of volcanic fire, so I'm quite familiar with it... ;) CRYPTIDS was fantastic; the low-lighting on your characters is something new, and very effective. The environments are different, yet again! SPECIAL NOTE: All the muses are great, but the Black girls at 1:12 and 1:44 are next-level. Really fantastic. Oh... and your Cryptids are awesome... especially the flaming-mouthed-bat-thing at the end. MANTLE: There's so much to unpack here... the guns, and GUN-WEILDING! Not just actually handling the weapon, but aiming it... Incredible. I've never seen its like! The caverns and the lighting are all top notch; and yes, the CELL PHONES with chords thing you described are hilarious. IT WORKS, and the interactions feel physically real, regardless... there must be several orders of magnitude more footage of people talking on Cell phones available than of the old rotary variety. And your cave-critters rule. It's all coming so fast now, I can hardly keep up... three times in the last week or so? It's like communicating with V'GER... I have no idea where you'll be capable of next!

      @@user-dh2qf5kd8c PLANET OF THE APES 68 I saw once as a child, I remember, of course, the final scene. It made a lifelong impression. However, I didn’t remember any of the opening scenes! Even the very first “lens flares in black starry space” scene is genius. The geometry, the angles, the instrumentation and very original spacecraft design were unbelievable. I immediately noticed the high end option, the Accordion File Dashboard Organizer!! The Color and color process! I will go on and on… The “spacecraft sinking scene”- As we were watching, someone called out that there were no drones at the time, and that the scene had to have been done by helicopter. I then noticed the water below the camera remained completely undisturbed by helicopter rotors. I began to suspect we may be looking at a matte painting (with one possible give away), giant water set, and customized purpose-invented camera rig situation. I still don’t get it!!! Dr. Zaius was a super character in evolution. I love how the dialogue illustrates his initial view of Taylor. Trying to understand how his initial paradigm would have only been so natural, the metamorphosis is very well exposed. Thanks a ton for urging me to watch this one and pointing out that dynamic in particular!! David, I have to express my gratitude for this entire exchange, since the ELECTRON days! It is so incredibly rare to have someone to jam with like this. Especially someone who contributes on the highest level of quality, wisdom, knowledge and true first hand experience. Having your writings on this channel is a real honor! Thank you. On this last article, I laughed during every paragraph, which is usually the case anyway. More appreciation, you have more than a good eye, it is precise. So many times as I’m creating I will think, “I hope somebody sees that” or “nobody’s going to catch that”, and pretty dependably, you have mentioned it. Yes, the twisting of the dials does lie ahead. I wonder if you caught this super strange thing that has been happening recently. In MELTDOWN 0:19, there is light escaping from the new accurate film frame to the upper left. I call it the breaking of the 9th wall, and it’s happened in many ways like weird alien letters in the black space and etc. Anyway, thanks for the rundown this week. Very sharp observations throughout. It helps me examine the work even more thoroughly with the outside opinion. The observations were extremely well written, meaningful and pertinent. Hope things are great, and please report back just on how things are going whenever convenient!

      Dude! You made my day with this! FIRSTLY, BUSINESS: Yes, the ICARUS (as it came to be called; the name is never actually mentioned in the movie) was the first truly modern Sci-Fi spaceship. Post real-world GEMINI CAPSULE, it lifts several design features (including the low-glare black surfaces around the windows/viewports) that would later be incorporated into Brian Johnson's EAGLE TRANSPORTER from SPACE: 1999. Loooove the Eagle; but Icarus was first. And, believe it or not, that's a FULL SIZED ICARUS actually floating in Lake Powell... they shot it from a chopper, but from a distance with a tight lens, which is why the shot is so quick. No one had ever seen anything like it before. This was the same year as 2001, so Sci-Fi film took a giant aesthetic leap that year. Even the bloody escape hatch feels practical and real. If you're interested, Dan Munroe has a kick-ass segment on the entire history of the Icarus, its development, and ultimate fate. Well worth it: ruclips.net/video/eZ5fB5FdrhM/видео.html BTW, did you notice that the astronaut's flight patches don't say NASA? They say ANSA. It turns out that NASA wanted nothing to do with the film (Sci-Fi was still considered 'silly') and turned down the production; this blunder would only be topped when MARS CANDY refused to allow Spielberg to feature M&M's in E.T. THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL because "they didn't want a goofy monster movie tainting their brand"... which is why the production went with the largely unknown REESES' PIECES instead. And the rest is history. Wow. Talk about a bad call... ;) In many ways I see Taylor as somewhat similar to ISHMAEL in MOBY-DICK; he's the witness to events, and our surrogate character in an unfamiliar world, but the real story is about Cornelius, Zira, Ursus and Zaius. God, Roddy McDowell and Kim Hunter are just so damn charming; Zira and Taylor's kiss at the end is just adorable. Off topic a bit, I include McDowell's greatest ape-soliloquy from CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Hero or villain, he was truly a great actor: ruclips.net/video/h7zHqjDjdLA/видео.html John Chambers KICKED ASS on that makeup. He won the first ever 'special makeup' academy award (the Academy did its job, for once); he did most of the work in his garage, out of primitive materials that predated any of the high-tech silicone and gelatin makeups we have now. He let the actors performances come through all that shit. Amazing. THE SCORE. FORBIDDEN PLANET'S score (by Louis and Bebe Barron) was the first true electronic film score, and of course Delia Derbyshire's BBC RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP rendition of Ron Grainer's DOCTOR WHO theme came out in '63 and is still BOSS today; but Goldsmith's APES is the first time electronic and symphonic music were combined in a film score. Talk about groundbreaking. Brutal. Savage. Sophisticated. Futuristic. Unlike anything else before or since. A dozen exotic instruments; synthesizers; I remember seeing APES at the age of six or seven; that incredible moment when we see that a field full of mute, running humans are being pursued by A GORRILLA ON HORSEBACK... the hunter's horns blaring over the impossible madness of it all. Goldsmith wrote this 52 years ago, and we are still listening to it. He wasn't even nominated for an Oscar that year. But... Franklin J. Shaftner brought him back for PATTON, another groundbreaking score that still matters... and he still lost. Not to mention '79, when he released both STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE and f!!!king ALIEN in the same year. Both lost to 'A LITTLE ROMANCE' by Georges DeLerue. The Oscars are bullshit. I'll stop ranting now... ;) Rod Serling was one of the great minds of the 20th century, and I'm not talking about TWILIGHT ZONE; he was a social critic, an outspoken critic of the accepted norms of the time, and truly understood human nature. While John Wayne was starring in THE GREEN BERETS, Serling was busy speaking out against the war. Wayne attacked him viciously in the press, calling Serling a traitor. Wayne should have done his research; Serling was a purple heart-decorated veteran of island hopping in the south Pacific, and everything Wayne was not. Serling's one-line rebuttal killed the controversy for good: "Ah, yes... John Wayne. That hero of three wars fought on the backlot at Universal." Mic drop. As we learned in the various, countless, and sub-par-subsequent APES 'products', the first movie isn't simply an action film; it's an in-depth examination of ourselves through the eyes of another species, just close enough to us to teeter on the edge of becoming human. It has nothing to do with Pierre Boulle's original novel, and thank god for that. It was pure satire, and little else. "I can say this of the departed... he never met an ape he didn't like!" Did you catch the toss-away when three Orangutans administrators hear the words of heresy? One covers his eyes; the second his ears; the third, his mouth. See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. It took me years to catch that. The entire idea of the film seems so insane, and yet... in Serling's hands, it's profound. NOW, ON TO THE FEELS: I'm truly humbled by your comments as to our interactions... it has been one of the true joys of my life interacting with you over these last few months. I get as much out of this as you do, and it reminds me that there are people out there who push as hard to improve and evolve as I do. I follow many talented A.I. and VFX channels on RUclips; entire groups, like Byzantine monks, busy recreating all their favorite 80s effects sequences with modern CG. Sure STAR TREK 5 could benefit from this, but spending two years reworking WRATH OF KAHN seems a bit excessive, at least to me. Beautiful work... but minus the matte lines, they can only hope to match what the original FX teams did. I flit about, a tooth-fairy for A.I. artists, dropping well-deserved comments and encouragement where I can. Many channels full of dark imagery; the severed doll heads become more photoreal, the zombie's rotting flesh more pallid and bloody, Scarlett Johansson's ass gets better with every iteration. But nothing changes; nothing evolves. As Vincent in Michael Mann's COLLATERAL tells Max the cabbie, "You know... adapt... evolve... Darwin, I-Ching... all that shit!" Most of the content producers improve technically, but not in meaning. There is only one question an artist should ask themselves, "What do I have to say?". Right now I'm studying the world around us, both darkness and light, and learning about our condition. When I can answer that question once more, I will be an artist again. I never know what you will come up with. Each iteration is something new, better, and beyond what I expect. Not to mention your observations, humor, and technical skill. Sometimes I feel like the Guardian of Forever in Star Trek, "Since before your sun burned brightly in the heavens, I have awaited... a question." You are the only one that ever asks me questions. And you have answers that I don't posses. And that exchange means everything. As Roy Schieder's Dr. Heywood Floyd told the Leonov's Russian crew in 2010: "I'm supposed to ask you questions.... then you ask me questions... that's how it's supposed to work. I think I read that in a manual somewhere.".. ;) I'm checking out the breaking the 9th wall upper left frame light phenomenon now; until next time.

    I am curious are the more realistic AI faces derived from real images? There is a big difference in realism between those examples and the more plasticine (or what might be referred to as typical AI) images. Thanks.

      @TheA.I.ArtAppreciationCh-qf7wu 19 дней назад

      Thanks for checking this one out! Another question that goes straight for the heart of the matter. I will try very hard to simplify this. The system currently in operation is like two separate brains in parallel. The brain on the left is the original text to video AI generation system. It generates our 'plasticine' muses. Although it began learning about a year and a half before the 'right brain', the system is robust and still developing at a very fast pace, notably in depth perception and rendering lately, as seen in the last couple of films. The brain on the right is an exponential quantum leap forward, it functions on a completely independent (virgin) prompting language, so it has required intensive instruction from the start. We humans are being dragged along a little trying to keep up with it right now, because it is so new. This change took place right before CHRONOSCOPE aired. As an artist I am a strict minimalist/purist, so I NEVER use any kind of 3D models or sculptures, never appeal to IP's, or use external pictures of any sort. I also reject any kind of automation or silly idea generation. Just purely descriptive input! WOW! That one put me through the paces. First time explaining that, hope I did ok! Great question!!

I still have difficulty understanding how it animates 2D images without some underlying 3D modeling. But don't feel you need to explain the process. There are some videos here on RUclips that can help me understand this brave new visual world. Cheers.

      Very interesting subject. I can share some observations about this. First, there's a thorough article in the community post about hands and arms, if you are interested. The eyes are really a fascinating balance. Early on (SAUCER CREW is a great example of this) I began to notice that the more detail I would try to pour into the background settings, the more resources were borrowed from the focal foreground subject. On a micro level, the AI has the same type of issue over the short distance between the eyes, especially as the profile angle increases (to the side). This 'resource disparity' will typically cause the proximal eye to appear close to perfect, while the distal eye shows some degradation or pre-formation effects. In my estimation, about 10% of the time, that pattern will be reversed, which indicates a solution is being explored. Some of the less stable anatomical issues will require a good bit more time. This may not completely answer your question, but this is what I'm observing right now. Please forgive the nerdy answer, Great subject, thank you for bringing it up! Very nice to meet a fellow artist! -Skyward

For a while I thought these systems were creating and manipulating 3D wire mesh models, but apparently thats not right at all (even though to me it would make a lot more sense, especially in regard to doing biomechanics).
