PORSCHE 911.2 CUP CAR LAP | Brainerd International Speedway May 2020
Glad you're one of the smart ones and are wearing nomex.
One of my favorite tracks in iRacing. It’s a fairly demanding track and it’s easy to lose it coming into that turn and also during exit.
Turn 4 & 12 are some of the most dangerous corners on any track. It takes a lot of laps to build up speed there. The markings on the bridge are so important. You really have to aim between the white & the red markers. Aim for the yellow & you won’t make the corner. I had an off there a few years ago in my ‘73 2.7 RS at a private event. Patrick Long said something to me that morning & mentioned that it wasn’t the weekend corners working at this time, we were out during the week & the people are the “B” team of sorts. Near then end of the session, as I came out of 10 a & 10 b, I looked up to the left to see if there were any flags out, but didn’t see a corner worker there. I glanced back again & he wasn’t there. He had left his post. That extra split second to check one more time was enough to put me off line. I went straight to grass. But, fellow racers, when you go off down a hill on the grass, don’t get on the brakes. In the wet, that will speed you up. In the dry, that will keep you from swapping ends. Keep the wheel straight & downshift to a lower gear. Blip the throttle to match the revs & you can slowly bring the car to a decent speed, then go left & get onto pit road. It can save your ass big time there. I witnessed one of the Bennett boys have an accident there in a Shadow CAN-AM car that required a helicopter to save his legs. It’s no joke. I learned to look for the flag marshal on the left of the bridge when braking for 10 a. It’s heavy braking but it’s straight so you have a split second to look up. If you need another glance, you have that moment to check one more time as you head under the bridge. Just don’t check twice at that point! Or you’ll go mowing!
Your line was good on the first lap coming under the bridge and down the hill. I think maybe this was just a lapse in concentration.
I'd say more of seeing the line in front and playing catch up and going too far into it sending the turn wide and being to the left of the track with a bit of lift
Ouch! Those colored squares on the bridge are kinda important coming out of 10b! Hope it wasn’t too bad of a crash.
Whoopsie
Hey Jeff Majkrzak, do you have an email address at which we could contact you regarding this video? We would be interested to discuss a license to use this video if this is generally possible? (i.e. via email) :) Cheers, Felix
Rockie mistake.
A lot of pro drivers have crashe there over the years
Fortunately I never lost control at Road Atlanta, but going up the hill looking into just sky always spooked me. The only close call I had was coming down the back straight-away, and when I hit the brakes coming down the hill @ ~160 mph into Turn 10-A I had partial brake failure...close call.
"promosm"
I would be trying some more rear wing. Car was too loose at the esses, and 11 and 12.
Nice lap!
Yeah dad
Hello Jeff from England…this is a brilliant demonstration. I flew there to watch the final 2 races of the Porsche Carrera Cup NA just a few weeks ago. We were supporting 311 RS after following them from here for 2 years. I was lucky enough to get 2 hot laps with the Skip Barber Racing School. Tremendous bunch of chaps. I was amazed at the g forces out of the dips and corners with odd camber. Thanks for posting…I can relive it over and over. Subscribed.👍🇬🇧
He was off the line under the bridge. Too far to the left.
Gotta stick the landing..
🤘 promosm
looking fast jeff!
Sick
Crash or no crash. Thanks for the post. Everyone can learn from this.
This car is a rocket ship haha, good driving !
I don't get the whole blind curve design of Atlanta. It's like a golf course with racing cars.
Yeah dad
You are the king of crash
I've done this same thing in the sims, dont feel so bad about it now
Drove on this track on Assetto corsa a few days ago and I made this mistake more than once. The corner is really deceiving
It is deceiving....and with dangerous consequences..but its an awesome corner when you get it right!!!!
I am thankful I got to drive the real Rd Atlanta when you were flat out thru the dip headed to bridge
Thats back in the real man days...it took balls to get that turn right because you basically had to aim fpr the inside of the bridge. I remember seein a motorcycle race before they changed turn 10 and thd rider hit his brakes going under the bridge and he was all kinds of slideways. It was AWESOME!!!!
the most dangerous and also the most excitting turn in road atlanta. speaking through sim racing experience obviously. I belong to the plebs therefore, this is the only racing I will ever do in road atlanta :'(
some of those dudes go pro. those online guys. plus F1 drivers do it too. DOn't be so hard on yourself brother. Life is too short
Dont worry. Every year we get closer to reality.
Yup..bn there done that ...a little bit of brain fade lol
2:46 I imagine your resignation right there "well that's it, I'm gonna crash, at least I hope it doesn't hurt too much, there we go..." I'm glad you're in one piece :)
2:40
Freeze frame around the 1:13 mark just before he goes under the bridge. The wiper is between the yellow and red squares on the side of the bridge. Then do the same thing at about 2:41. That’s why they’re there!
It's a very good marker. I've been watching a lot of film on this track preparing for SCCA TT National event there this weekend and as soon as I saw that I said "oh no, he's too left"...
thats really cool
Wow that's a cool marker, never noticed it before.
@@sqmotorsports9230 Not only that, but he went to the power. He must have known that he was off line, yet he was WOT. Never go to the power when you're off line. It's a recipe for disaster.
Damn very cool I never knew that or noticed before thank you
You should practice using iRacing. It would be far cheaper.
What just lost the line ?
Yes. Rookie mistake. First time at the track and was just getting up to speed
@@jeffmajkrzak2095 so uh, yeah, gonna be running SCCA Time Trials there this weekend, my first time on the track. Watching a lot of film to prepare. I'll be in a slower car (Max4 class ND1 Miata) but the line is the line. Thanks for sharing to help us other RA rookies.
@@jeffmajkrzak2095 ahhh...i thought u had a tire go down. Anyway...hope u didnt hurt yourself bad...turn 12 is not a fun place to wreck. You were running pretty fast for being a rookie. Better luck next time!
What were we riding in , a 911 ?
991.2 Cup.
@@jeffmajkrzak2095 fast car...166mph before braking for 10A
Please tell me thats kph?!
Haha! Yes - KPh. Car was imported from Germany following Carrera Cup season and unable to be converted to MPH
LMAO!
What happened exactly? It almost looked to me like a front left tire issue - you had quite a lot of steering angle pointing right and it just wouldn't turn. How many heat cycles on the tires? Looks like you got it repaired and back online in no time though! I'm in the planning phase of buying a 991 cup right now just for safer track day use.
Unfortunately, driver error. He didn't place the car in the right location before going under the bridge. See the "yellow/red/white" color strip mounted on the bridge? You want your head to be directly under the red portion. in this vid, his passenger seat was just a tiny bit to the left of the yellow portion.
Looks nasty. Glad you are alright
Nice driving. Sebring in the Cup car must be a once in a lifetime experince. Is ABS allowed in PCCNA? The braking inputs look like it.
BAMF
Draft that 911 down the straight
Yeah dad
