Patagonia Guidewater Sling Pack Review
Had one for years. Its only OK. Not so bad for beginners but an upgrade is called for later as there are much better rods in an affordable price range. Echo Lifts are much much better.
The sidekick is my goto for quick on the move fisheries. It is fully submersible, as my poor judgment in river depths has proven more than once 😂
But awesome vid, i appreciate it
My sidekick is submersible? They have an ad campaign holding it under water
Out of curiosity how long should a fly line last?
@@Adventuristic89 tough to give a rule of thumb. In the salt they tend to last shorter but in the freshwater I fish mine for at least three seasons
Do you know how many bottles of wine this cooler could fit?
@@wave640 from the top of my head I would say 6 normal bottles of wine standing up 🙌
Could you put a water bottle on those two loops on the outside?
@@Vweebs you probably could but I’m not sure how long it’s gonna stay in there 😎
Thanks for the review and answer (^。^)
En el momento en que vi el bolso kislux , supe que tenía que tenerlo.
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the kislux as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
This is a great review. Thanks for that.
Lovely rods! 👍🏻👍🏻
What is the volume of the bag?
Comes as a 25L, 35L and 45L version 👏
The bag in your video is 45l?
@@pgh44 35
Can it go under water if you wade above your waist?
From my experience it can be submersed and stays dry. However, please be aware that yeti advertises this bag as waterproof but not submersible. If you want 100% security on submersibility, go for the Patagonia Guidewater or the fishpond thunderhead
I have a 7’6” 3 wt that I got on sale this last fall for $26.99. I fish small trout streams and panfish and it’s becoming my favorite fly rod to have handy in the truck
I taught with a now retired elementary art teacher who builds bamboo fly rods. He's completely old school making the ferrules and the guide by hand. Beautiful products and understandably why they are so expensive. It's been over twenty years since I spoke with him and at that time the rods were well over 1000 U.S. dollars each. The hours of work into these is amazing. I just broke my fiberglass flyrod that I build forty years ago (out of college) and am now looking to buy a bamboo fly rod to use.
Thanks for the review. Just ordered a pair, can't beat the price. I am looking forward to trying out such a light and low profile boot.
Wundervolle Handwerkskunst mit Natur materialien.... 👍❤️
watching Chris cast is just poetry in motion.
hi> what puffer jacket are you wearing in this video?

does a 14" laptop fit in? like macbook pro

Perfect Bag coming up for my world tour . Thank you for the review :) sold!
Best knife for always keeping with you for filleting 👌
Thank you, a very helpful video, helped me as a beginner to pick the right net.
I want a video on the old school big surf bamboo rods
I'd really like to know how they compare to the seemingly similar Oakley Clifden sunglasses
Hi Thommy, they are indeed very similar. The sideshields on the Clifden are a little bigger and the Oakley come with a metal leash. Apart from that very similar. It comes down to what lens you prefer. Hope that helps.
As the reviewer notes, it casts surprisingly well, much better than what one would expect from a $100 outfit. Punches waaaay above its price point. In the 5 weight, i like the 8'6" version, as it has a much lighter swing weight and feels 'quicker'. The 8 weight and the 4 weight are both awesome deals.
Which color is this ? Which size do you wear?
Hi Steven, I wear a size S (im 5'10") and the color is Storm Cloud
@@thewadinglist thanks for the fast respond. Filson does not sell the color storm cloud. is it "raven"?
@@stevenw3419 Hi Steven, sorry, my mistake. I mixed up the brands. The color is Dark Denim Navy. It has been discontinued but you can still find it online
Ha ha !! ha ha !! Focking Bull Shit !! ha ha !!! Rio pay him a LOOT of money to say this shit guys DONT waste your money !!!
Before BassPro took over Cabela's the product management team at Cabela's had a pretty good grasp on their fly rod product mix. This combination is more than adequate, especially considering the price.
More than adequate? This is a crazy good performance per dollar deal. This rod casts as well as many rods multiple times its price. Yep, no warranty, but the rod is crazy inexpensive.

What color lens is that? What color would you suggest for someone just wearing for everyday use?
These are the Brown Tortoise Gloss frames and Silver Mirror Lenses 🤝
And they are an excellent choice as an Allrounder
@@thewadinglistI went with matte black and grey lens. I would’ve gone with blue lens but I really don’t fish. I do go to the beach though. Love what I bought with 10% off
Finally. A review of this bag that someone has sitting on or beside their person so we can actually see the ‘true size’ THANK YOU 🙏
How are these sized? Do they accommodate a neoprene wading sock or do you need to size up from normal boot / shoe size and if so, how much?
Hi Mike, as a rule of thumb you always have to size +1 compared to your street shoe size. I found these to run big but would still recommend sticking with that rule. So if you’re an 11 in street shoes, go for a 12 in wading boots. Hope that helps 🙌
Thanks for the review. Can you comment on how the boots are sized? Are they made to fit a neoprene wader and you order your normal shoe / boot size, or do you need to size up, and if so, how much? Does the leather shrink or constrict as they go through repeated wet / dry cycles? Thanks for your help!
Hi Mike, from my experience you need to size up one size from your normal shoe size. I’ve worn them with the Simms G3 waders with neoprene booties and the Patagonia swiftcurrent with neoprene booties. The simms booties feel a bit tighter in them but the leather softens when you walk in them for a bit. The same goes for repeated use and after they dried off. They seem tight when you haven’t used them for a while but then again they „grow“ once you use them again. They are a solid, slightly heavy boot but that’s makes them virtually indestructible on the other hand. Hope that helps 🙌
Debating between This or the Guidewater sling. Do you have any opinion on what would work better for a day trip / hiking into a spot with gear. Worried the Sling would not balance the weight as much when packing in lunch, water, and supplies for a day of fishing. 4km hike to my usual spot on local river. I have found I live in quite a rainy climate and have waded to deep a few to many times so looking at the waterproof options.
Hi there, you laid it out pretty well :). If you want to keep you sling/backpack on while casting I thing the sling is the better option also because you can simply swing it around and access your gear without having to take it off your back. In terms of capacity the backpack is the better choice but considering you're looking for something for a day trip, I think the sling will be big enough. Hope that helps
The reviews on this boot are terrible, mostly due to the durability of the material. It seems like most people get a few months of these boots and it starts cracking around the toe area. Have you experienced any issues so far?
No issues on my end so far. But I’ve read about people experiencing this as you’re saying.
@@thewadinglist great! I'm curious to see the 1 year review
Is it made of plastic or of plastic-covered fabric?
It’s made of a very durable nylon which is a form of plastic
Thanks for the review. Which of those hip packs do you prefer? I have the Fishpond Thunderhead, but it feels sort of bulky to me. I was contemplating replacing it with the Patagonia, but they look closer in size than I thought the they'd be. Any input is greatly appreciated!
The Patagonia is maybe a fraction less bulky but I’m not sure it’s worth the investment if you’re happy with the thunderhead apart from the size. Most waterproof (and submersible) hip bags are a little bulky from my experience (the Simms and Filson dry for example). This one here is a little smaller: www.overboard.eu/collections/waterproof-waist-packs/products/pro-light-waterproof-waist-pack-2-litres. Hope that helps 🙌🎣
@@thewadinglist Thanks for the info!

That looks like Henckels 4 Star line. Great, stainless knives! They also have a 5.5 inch knife with the same profile. I use that for boning and cleaning beef and pork as it's a bit stiffer than your filleting knife.
That's correct - it's the 4 star line. Great overall filet knife in my eyes.
