Is Wing Chun Approached Scientifically?
During my conversation with Dr. Mark Phillips, which I will hopefully be able to get him back on the mic for another conversation to cover more aspects of martial arts, self protection and psychology, I ask him about the Wing chun community as a whole and whether they are approaching wing chun in a scientific way. Are they keeping up with the times? Let’s get to the bottom of it with a respected individual from the space.

      Good, be skeptical. This was an application of calf slicer my grappling coach at the time showed me. I haven’t tried it but calf slicers and bicep slicers are, from what I read, not allowed at any belt level in bjj competition, but is a bit different in combat wrestling. Since I haven’t competed in CW in a while that’s hard for me to say, but you could always give it a try in your rolling, just be sure to let your partner know you will try it out first.

    • @intothedojo724
      @intothedojo724 8 месяцев назад

      Given the circumstances, if that’s the case, then yes, there is a moral obligation to seek the non violent option, but we assume that people understand that the hard skills are the last thing to be used, if we can talk down a possible situation from getting worse, then that’s the course of action. But, if all else fails and that means we as martial artists either fucked up and missed all the signs or our choices were limited, then we have to do what needs to be done. Mind you, there is still a legal obligation to use necessary force and to stop once the person stops being a threat.
