    Will it have that sponge-like substance inside after the month in the zip-lock-bag? Or does it make that sponge-like stuff in a later stage? Because I really want to try that, but here in Germany it's nearly impossible to buy Sprouted Coconuts without getting scammed, so doing it myself would be a viable option, I just don't want to open it too early. 😅

      Plus: I want to add, it's an awesome video, I love how you explained not only the "how", but even the "why" of the steps we would have to do to grow our own coconut palms. You did a really great work there.

    For me, I think the big 4 problems are spider mites, fungus gnats, root rot and black spot. If we're not on top of all 4 of these issues, then prepare to see the plants succumb to any or all of these issues. The death of my indoor roses is a rather routine matter....but I keep buying them.

    Thanks for your helpful video. I just bought one of these a couple of months ago and can't find a lot of info on them. I didn't even know the exact variety until i took a photo and searched it. Aparrently, it's a rare breed. My biggest question right now is how to remove a dying leaf. It's a healthy plant but came with a couple of damaged leaves, I got it at a discount store, and one of the leaves is quite large and turning more brown and yellow as time goes on. Should i leave it until it's totally dead or remove it now? The leaf is about 10 inches long and the lower half of it is still green. The stem is quite thick and I'm not sure where to cut, low close to the main stem or take off just the leaf. Please, any help that you can give would be very much appreciated. No one seems to give this kind of info.

    • @PlantBasics
      @PlantBasics 17 дней назад

      So glad the video was helpful, you must cut off an older/dying leaf as close to the main stem as possible!

    Awesome video. Soaking the coconut in sea salt water for 2 weeks gurantees germination. 60/60 is my record over the years. I think the sea water helps to stop any rotting or fungus. This may surprise you. Coconut plams are not just confined to the Tropics There are some pretty big coconut plams on the West Coast of Scotland UK I had one survive in my back garden for a few years until the year when we had -10c Up until then it had survived mild frosts. Some types of Coconut (Cocos nucifera) are more hardy then others. Coconuts in cooler regions tend to be a little bit smaller. There are some growers trying to develop a really hardy type.

    Greetings Corbin, I live in the US in Frankfort, Kentucky. I really like Boston ferns (I've killed several sadly). I usually grow them outside in the summer and by November take them indoors. My issue is once indoors. they start to brown up and wilt. I think it might be the lower humidity inside the house versus outdoors. Do they need really high humidity indoors? Thanks, and have a great weekend, James

    • @PlantBasics
      @PlantBasics Месяц назад

      Hello! I think your assumptions might be correct, that they are struggling with the outside vs inside conditions. So I think light might also be an issue, because a plant outside even under a covered patio still gets more light than a plant inside even close to a window. I think when you move them inside try and give them as much light as possible and try and up the humidity. Where I live, the dry summer heat will just crisp them up outside. Corbin

    This is upotting, not repotting. Repotting involves changing all the medium.

    • @PlantBasics
      @PlantBasics 3 месяца назад

      I've been growing plants since I could walk, I've never removed all the medium of the roots of any plant, except when there is root rot or soil breakdown issues. Why would you put a perfectly healthy plant through that stress?

    • @ryanisstuckin93
      @ryanisstuckin93 3 месяца назад

      @PlantBasics Totally agree. I don't either. But the two terms do mean different things. Up potting is putting it in a larger pot. Re potting is changing the medium/soil. I must have been in one of my pedantic moods when I made that comment anyway, the anonymity of the Internet and a bored mind are not a good combination sometimes. It's a good video. My Zebrina has bitten the dust sadly. I don't know what it wants from me. Yours is thriving. So I think it's fair to say you know better than me!
