On this one I was Contractor set all the pipe and we fit and tacked everything in place then I went back through and welded it out

They work good , did some maintenance on a couple of asphalt roto-mills replacing blocks and teeth

It makes a big difference especially on work that’s piece rate

3/8” wall thickness so procedure calls out two passes, these joints inside and outside are taking about 9.5/10 lbs of .045. I can get three full joints and then a partial bonus pipe. Spools are 33 lbs This section of pipe is at a water treatment plant and will transport treated water to be discharged

Yes. two chain clamps in a cross pattern, stands works good on small pipe when you don't need a lot of weight and you can raise and lower the head to get the right amount of leverage to make it effortless to rotate. This section was getting sandblasted and epoxy coated and lined so I wasn't to concerned about the coating

@@jaythemachine3845 My oxygen are laying down, you're correct, but my acetylene are on the opposite side standing up. General rule of thumb is to carry two oxygen to one acetylene, I also have 35 lb. CO2 that stand next to the acetylene

Typically I would use cutting fluid but these parts needed to be painted in a short time frame and I didn’t want to spend the extra time cleaning the parts.

I think that one was an RKI that the contractor supplied for this job, they also had an MSA multi gas that I liked

I still fit them to get the hi-lo out, leave a gap and run a quick flat bead to take off the sharp edge of the bevel. The insulating spacers they use to slide the carrier pipe through the casing can get hung upon in the casing so it best practice to try and fit and weld the correct way

It’s been a beautiful fall

Most of my work comes from mid sized general contractors that do work across all industries. My work ranges from fuel and mechanical piping, casings, large diameter water lines, and structural steel. I've never worked on a cross country pipeline in the gas and oil industry but have worked on the gas distribution side for 8 years and some refinery experience. Become familiar with area contractors and introduce yourself to project managers who may need welding project completed. If you're in a fab shop watch and see who the customers are maybe they have opportunities for field welding that your shop doesn't offer. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there but be experienced enough to do good job.

That is a Tweco rotary ground, item #GCRG-140. Personally I think it is the best ground out there

Slag sticks up above flush, but the weld is about a 1/32” below the bevel
