Mia had a rough start in life. When still just a puppy, she was left to fend for herself on the streets of Costa Rica. Then one day her luck changed - she was rescued, and got everything a dog could need or want (she even got a dog of her own). She quickly adapted to her new life, and made herself comfortable in her forever home. Maybe a little too comfortable, though - she took over the couch....
We Gotta Get Out Of This Place (Dog)

Dogs sleep a lot, so they probably dream a lot too. But what do they dream about? In this video, they dream about great escapes, and running free with all the other dogs. In addition to the family dogs, this video features several scenes from the daily running of the dogs at Territorio de Zaguates (Land of the Strays/Mutts), a no-kill shelter in Costa Rica that's home to over 1,000 dogs.

One day I decided to crank up my Hammond A-100 organ and Leslie 122 speaker and give Procul Harum's 1967 hit, AWSoP, a try. In order to post it on my Facebook page I had to make it into video. So my Husky mix, Storm, got her first music video, telling the story of her various escape attempts, run-in with the law, disrespect of the Alpha Dog, lack of snow for dog sledding, etc., etc. I figured w...
The Happy Organ - Baby!

This is my version of "The Happy Organ" by Dave 'Baby' Cortez from the early days of Rock-N-Roll (I understand it was good music for roller skating back in the day). The dancing baby meme is also a throwback - from the early days of the internet (back when it was still called the Worldwide Web or the Information Super Highway). I'm guessing this baby loves "Shortin' Bread" . Beyoncé and her fri...

I ran across this RUclips posting which may be of interest to anyone who liked the above video: ruclips.net/video/ZYxCBWf0IQk/видео.html It's titled "The Silver Spear", but it actually contains all 8 pipes and drums tunes played in the above video from 24:26-32:01 (Prince Charles Welcome to Lochaber, Mingulay Boat Song, The Swallow Tailed Coat, The Silver Spear, The Curlew, Captain Horne, MacFarlane's Reel, and A Luaidh). It's audio only (and pretty good quality audio at that), and without the voice-over/commentary that's in the above video. I assume it was recorded during the same event as the above video, but it may have been recorded during a rehearsal. Either way, it's almost 8 minutes of excellent piping and drumming.

12:43 The Queen Mother watching on. 12 years later, the Massed Pipes and Drums that she loved so much (192 from 13 British and Commonwealth Regiments) would lead her coffin from Westminster Hall, where her lying in state had been attended by 200,000 people, to Westminster Abbey where the funeral service later took place. With muffled drums and with the muffled bells tolling in the background, that great band slow-marched 300 metres on newly-surfaced road, so that no bumps would disturb the coffin. (See ruclips.net/video/hF7cyerSohU/видео.html). The Beat Retreat of 1990 (which it was given to me to attend) and the Queen Mother's transfer (which I saw on TV) were the greatest Pipes and Drums spectacles I have ever seen, both organised and executed immaculately, but with humanity and love as well as gravitas. Priceless indeed, and in both cases we knew that neither we nor anybody would see the like of it again. There is not so much perfection on this Earth, but those are two examples of what we humans (and we Brits) can achieve. Prince Philip's funeral last year was another, I would say.

I never watch one of these ceremonies without a feeling of awe at the perfection of the performance - and the splendor and pomp at which the British have no equal. I also feel a sense of loss (even as an American) at the loss of many of these regiments and their bands as successive governments have tightened the belt to the point of strangulation. I wonder, thirty years after this was filmed, how many of those units survive. Thank you for posting this rather poignant reminder of what Great Britain was.

Right at the start the commentator says about the 7 full time Scottish regiments(The Scottish division) has now sadly been cut, combined and reduced to 1 yes 1 solitary regiment called the Royal regiment of Scotland. This contains the previous named 7 regiments now reduced to battalion status. These have been further cut and combined with one( The A&S highlanders) cut completely down to a ceremonial company, sign of the times sadly..

I recently had the opportunity to trade emails with Bruce Hitchings, who was then the Pipe Major of the Queen's Own Highlanders (he appears at 29:07). He said it was a great time, having just returned from Northern Ireland and then on to the Gulf War later that year. I believe that's the late Alasdair Gillies at 29:07 ( a Pipe Sergeant then - a few years later he became the last Pipe Major of the Queen's Own Highlanders and then the first Pipe Major of the Highlanders).
