Return to Spur Lake: Bringing back the food that grows on water
Просмотров 5806 месяцев назад
There’s always been only a few special places in the world where wild rice (known as manoomin to the Ojibwe people), grows. Which made it troubling when manoomin stopped growing in the early 2000’s at Spur Lake, a 113 acre lake in Oneida County, Wisconsin. NRF is proud to be part of a group of conservation partners who have come together to bring wild rice back to Spur Lake because of its envir...

2:09 how many birds break their wings during this process? And have any birds had heart attacks due to being caught?
We appreciate your concern! When done by trained banders, banding does not injure the bird in any way. The Bird Banding Lab sets banding regulations, provides permits to banders, establishes code of ethics, etc. You can learn more at www.usgs.gov/faqs/does-banding-hurt-birds#:~:text=No%2C%20banding%20does%20not%20hurt,on%20the%20Bander's%20ethic%20code
Absolutely beautiful
Can the public visit the areas where you guys were?
this is great but the background music is super distracting!
Thank you for your support of Mounds View Grasslands and for everything you do for our conservation partners in Wisconsin!
Great video, David!

hello~bravo~ perfect edition! goodnight.
He’s so cute! Clacking his beak angrily at you 😂
Here in central California, I see very little interest in common milkweed-- my Swamp Milkweed and Narrowleaf Milkweed are much more attractive for larvae. For nectaring, they do like Butterfly Bush.
They likely show very little interest in your common milkweed because it’s an eastern species, where swamp milkweed does have some scattered populations in the western states. You’d be much better off planting species like showy milkweed(asclepias speciosa) and heart-leaf milkweed(asclepias cordifolia), both of which are common in California and have different emergence times to support multiple generations of western monarchs.
@@oscarflip8561 Thanks for info-- I had the oddest Monarch season this year...... I saw adults all summer into mid November, but nothing as larvae-- and I had several new native milkweed species this year. Both good and bad?
I love this! Going for my WI Master Naturalist certification this year and I cannot wait to be even more connected to this beautiful state!
We live in a beautiful state. Thanks for helping to conserve it.
Saw myself in one of your photos.

I need to talk about nature writing
Hi
Loved the great practical ideas...thanks
The beginning of the video was decent. You 2 are reaching when it comes to the drawings and glyphs. The red drawings were probably their form of marking years.. Like Roman Numerals. Aboriginal people were a people that explained history by drawing. And if I gave my 4 year old niece some red paint and told her to draw a bird on a rock..? She would do better than that. And the explanation of the turkey track was far-fetched. Stick to giving factual statements and leave the interpretations to the viewers.
Sir don't you think net also affects the animals around?
Congratulations and thanks to all for giving back to the places we love!
People were writing to the future. Nice video.
Very well done. I have found several artifacts in NW WI. Some are spear points that could only have been made for megafauna. Thanks again for the film. Some of my points could have come from here!
yes, the sound was too low in the beginning but picked up reasonably well. But I am really impressed by how you presented the topics and the accompanying examples. Look forward to more of your workshops.
Keep these tours of Wisco archeological sites coming. Great, thanks!
I'm so glad I found this video today! I heard my first chorus frog of the season yesterday, which is for me the best of all springtime firsts!

Love learning about this organization.
Another nice weekly video...desperately needs a sound technician though.
Very interesting.
Wow! Fascinating to learn of this historical place. Thank you!
Jack-in-the-pulpit!! There are similar flowers with roofs in Japan, which I took recently. I was looking for a wild flower video and by chance I found the English name. I'm happy. Thank you very much. Wood flog is also ringing. I feel a sense of familiarity with Wisconsin's nature.
Please up the sound....I can hardly hear it. But the video is great!!
Glad you enjoyed it! And we will try to increase the sound and are working on adding captions to all our Virtual Field Trip videos as well - stay tuned and thank you for your patience. :)
Thanks Christine and Ruth this was a beautiful short video that I really enjoyed...especially this year! We are photographers that have gon on many of the field trips and miss the fact that we cannot go this year. Next best thing is just what you are doing here FUN! Keep up the great work!!!!
Thank you for this informative video.
These are great; learned some new flower names! Thank you!
The sound is too low.. I can't hear anything.
thanks....great ideas....thanks for the ideas!
Can't hear a damned word! Need to re-do this thing.
Really great workshop! In person would be better of course but this still giving me a moment to slow down, and get excited about exploring an outdoor area near me this weekend. I really like the pace, the different venues and the topic. Thank you! Well done!
This is great, thanks for making this video!
I've taken numerous frog field trips and this was very well done. Thank you.
This was great and very timely!
Great video!
Wow -- Dots for the males! Now I know! And how to tag a monarch safely. So cool!
This was wonderful. Keep up Field Trip Fridays!
