Loading:Unloading street vibe
Upgraded front wheels for Street Performing added today. Works great!. I was having difficulty loading and unloading the instrument when there were four swivel casters on unlevel terrain. It constantly fought me to go down hill and if the van was parked with a sideways tilt, it was not only difficult but it was dangerous going up and down the ramp. By replacing the heavy side of the instrument with non-swivel 12 inch wheels (from wheel chair), it is much easier to control and load and can easily step over cracks in the side walk and other street musician challenges.

SkEarl and Baby SkEarl

I take care of my "back yard" day pets. They come and see me every morning for treats (black sunflower seeds and other nuts). I named all my pet squirrels "SkEarl". This morning, my favorite SkEarl brought her newborns over to meet me. It's their first time out of their nest and one is still being weaned and learning to eat the black sunflower seeds. I also have a night time pet who lives under...

This is an interpretation of the old Christian Hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" by William M. Runyan who wrote the music to accompany Thomas O. Chisholm's poem (lyrics). Here, I tried to create an interesting abstract of the theme without lyrics but music alone. All the questions it raises in my mind about God's Faithfulness to us? That to me is thought provoking. Everyone's interpretation of G...

So beautiful mom and little baby so cute
So cute beautiful mom and little baby so cute
Thank you so much. That mom is very sweet and friendly to me too. She comes over at least once per day and she takes pecans from my hand. I call them and name them all "SkEarl" because the first one I became friends with (the grandma of all these I believe) was so kind. I thought she was a boy at first and I thought if he was a human, his name would be Earl so I named him "SkEarl" and now I call them all that. I also have an Opossum who lives under my shed. She too is a girl so I named her, "Michelle Opossum". I treat her to fresh water and some piece of fruit like an apple core, banana or even yogurt which she loves every evening. I love my backyard pets very much.
Wow! Talk about refreshing and enjoyable music to listen to! And what a sound!
Beautiful playing Piper!
Thanks Russell! Much appreciated.
great!
Thank you very much! I´ve already fixed it, the video helped a lot.
Glad it helped.
The part I’m dying to see is properly removing and setting bar mounts
It's quite easy but you do need to understand a few simple parameters. Which brand and model vibraphone? Contact me at www.PIPERvibe.com via email and we can set up a chat.
:o
So A440 is concert pitch and A442 is Verdi or scientific pitch??? Thank you for this tune comparison.
No. If you don't know what this is about, it would take me a day to explain it.
Ok, thank you. Will research. I always thought the key to time travel has something to do with sound.
A440 is concert pitch and A442 is Verdi or scientific pitch?
Can you post the Amazon link for that particolar clip you're using? Thank you!

Do you still sell the M Braces for the Musser M55?
This is great. Thanks for showing us how the internals of the instrument work! Do you have a suggestion for where to buy replacement parts?
Very innovative!
That video wet's my whistle in anticipation of getting the full recording. Looking forward to hearing the whole "album." (do we call it that anymore?) Keep up the great work.
Thanks Jerry! Your question "Do we call it (albums) anymore" gives me an excellent opportunity to give a look at my thinking on this topic. I've struggled a lot with the idea of recording anymore. I think it's downright stupid for me to make a CD. I haven't had a CD player in 10 years and I think at least 90 percent of people can say about the same. So making a CD has no purpose. I did a few videos and I really hate that format unless it's a concert setting and professionally done. Otherwise, I think it's just watching someone play music in their room practicing. The visual is very distracting for the music to me. I like to have my mind focused on the music when listening to music. I really don't like seeing myself doing a "look what I can do" video. It serves absolutely no purpose. However, I do like to show people what I can do with it. So, I'll put out little commercials, short lessons for both artful professionals and laypeople listeners so they have a different grasp on the music. And, little bloopers like this one BUT,... I will not put it on spotify or any other streaming venue. If someone wants to hear more, they have to purchase it from me and I'll be the only source for it. To me, THAT'S real 'indie'! So, I've decided to put my music on a thumb drive and call my little record company "Used Thumb Drive Records" LOL. That way, there's still a purpose. I get to put my stuff out there and it's on something that also has value - the thumb drive. It's called "Used Thumb Drives" because I'm going to put my "album" on every one of them.

You sound great John!
Thank you kindly! Thank you so much!
I love your ideas! Thanks
Thank you. I have a lot of great ideas and every now and then, one works LOL.

That was one of the coolest parts of that masterclass!

I am so pumped for this! Not sure if you caught my vid on FB where I literally knocked my phone out of the rig!
haha. Yup, I've done that too. I hope you like it.
Much better , I put a soft napkin under the upper 4 notes on my M-55 to keep the ringing down.
Man, we've all done whatever it takes. The PIPERvibe Gel Shims enhance the performance of the PIPERvibe Gel Pad better than anything for warped wooden rail problem or uneven pressure from the springs.
Nice
Thanks Mrman!
I like your mallets where did you get them?
Those are my signature mallets. Originally made by Mike Balter Mallets and then Vic Firth but they are currently not available. Contact Steve Weiss Mallets and ask for them. They may have some left. If not, contact your favorite mallet company and tell them how good they are and how to contact me. www.PIPERvibe.com THANK YOU!
Excellent information..timely for me - brilliant design
Thank you Steve! Your appreciation is very much appreciated!
Holy crap, what a lovely tone from that instrument!
Thanks Kevin. And I also think those mallets play a lot of good notes! LOL. Seriously though, that tone is part instrument and part player. One thing that people don't realize is that "tone" on the vibraphone has a lot to do with how you play it. Not to be confused with how you hit or strike the bars but how you give each of the notes their own space by eliminating the notes (mallet damping, pedaling etc) when their time is finished. Good tone originates with the instrument and then it has to be carried through and presented by the performer. The instrument's part of this is mostly from my shock-absorbing bar mounts. They're very special and allow the bars to kind of float over the frame. This isolates the percussiveness and keeps it from going through the frame and getting amplified. That's why (when you listen closely) you can always hear a knocking sound on the frame with each note. The other contributor to the tone from the instrument's side of responsibility is my Gel Pad damper. That eliminates the thudding when playing the bars with the damper up to get staccato notes.
Yup, resonators need to be tuned to the appropriate length.. otherwise you will end up with a muted sound... tuning the individual resos on mallets is essential... and the mass/humidity of the air will affect the vibrational length too. The 'beats' between HZ here is exactly 1 a second when 1 HZ, and faster (2/second) when 2HZ off (always the difference of the two). The vibes (my guess) are tuned to a piano temperament anyway / and if so / the 4ths are a little wider than natural Pythagorean (string) resonance and the 5ths are a little narrower. These intervals are spread slightly out of tune such that the piano has these hidden 'beats' as you demonstrate here... but in the higher overtones of the pitch. When tuning the equal temperament, you aren't really tuning it perfectly, you are perfectly putting it 'out of tune' - such to play in all keys.
GREAT!!!
Thank you Tony! Man, I was struggling. I was just home for a little break from the ice and pulled this together the best I could. Chops were a bit sagging in the time LOL.
Hey John, I was wondering what mallets those are. They sound spectacular on those bars and I think my instrument has very similar bars
Those are my signature mallets that use to be made by Mike Balter. When Mike sold the company, they quit making them. I'm hoping for a new company to make them. Please tell your favorite mallet company about them! Thank you for noticing them.
Is it bad that my piano notes a#4 literally sounds like a440
I don't understand. To quote the great Siri... "I don't know how to respond to that".
Hi John, Ted Wolff here. Just came upon this video and loved it. You're playing has such clarity, inventiveness, and energy. I only wish the video hadn't faded out so soon! So you were in the South Pole?? What was that about?
Wow, thank you! Ted!!! Oh man, it would be so fun to just talk on the phone sometime and catch up. Sorry it took me two months to see this. It's not because I'm so busy but I just didn't see it! Send me a note at www.PIPERvibe.com if you'd be up for a chat sometime.
If you have an M55, you could also go here for the Pedal Gizmo. With it, you can apply this method without boring out your Musser pedal. www.pipervibe.com/product-page/m48-m55-rod-free-pedal-adapter-by-pipervibe
Add the PIPERvibe Pedal Gizmo and you won't have to bore it out at all. Check it out here: www.pipervibe.com/product-page/m48-m55-rod-free-pedal-adapter-by-pipervibe

Ahhhh ❤
Thanks for the memories, John. The moment I heard the clacking of hooves, I was back in our childhood fairytale. This is lovely!
Thank you! I had a blast making those hooves sounds. I hollowed out a coconut and clapped them together for the sound. I think it's pretty convincing.
www.PIPERvibe.com is where you can purchase the book "Seven Songs for Vibraphone". Complete with lesson ideas for each of the seven songs. "Spring Valley Kids" just one of them.
😊reminded me of Chick Corea’s writing style AND Gary Burton. Very nice John.
Thanks. Yup. I was listening to Chic and Gary a lot when I wrote this.
Just came across this video. Great playing and valuable information 👍🏻
Thank you Charles! I love playing it and hearing myself talk LOL.

You are unreal. Inspiring. Incredible player. I've been playing vibes 30+ years so I know what you are doing is beautiful and dedicated at the highest level.
Thank you so much. I'm sorry it took me so long to learn to watch for comments on RUclips. Your words offer much energy. Thank you.
I'm 72 years old and watched your video all the way thru but still don't know what that thing is !! (a rod adapter for what?) You better redo that video or at least retitle it so the average person knows what they are looking at.
Thanks Ronald for taking the time but this is catering to the specialized small world of vibraphones and the people who play it. Anyone who knows what an M55 or M48 is, knows what this video is about and anyone who doesn't know what an M55 or M48 is has nothing to gain by watching it. Nothing to see here for average folk. Go to www.PIPERvibe.com and view some of my Music Videos. You may like them better.
Do you want one of these for your M55? Here's my cost not counting my time. Available at www.PIPERvibe.com PIPERvibe Rod-free pedal adapter Cost o Cord 5 ft $2.00 o Clamp $10.00 o M8 x 1.25 eye hook $5.00 o Tslot nuts 0.53 ea. X 4 $2.12 o Quad Slot profile $5.00 o Connecting element $4.00 ea. o UHMW spacer $1.00 o Screws $1.32 Total cost not including time: $30.44 to purchase the Rod-free Pedal Adapter go to www.PIPERvibe.com store
FYI: I own the patent on the bar mounts and a version of a liquid-filled damper pad. The new PIPERvibe Gel Pad is sticky on the underside but not sticky on the top and sides. The "Gel Shim" is sticky on all sides so that it sticks to the damper rail and the gel pad.
Check out a short video on the rail splint here: ruclips.net/video/DllLzuohYnk/видео.html
Yeah man!!! Fantastic ideas!
Thank you.
