    What brand of metallic thread do you use? Also do you have to use a metallica needle or make any adjustments on your machine? I've had varying results with metallic thread. If often takes me forever to get my machine set up properly. I love your use of fraying, but it must take forever.

    • @rocansew
      @rocansew Год назад

      Gutermann metallic thread TEX 33 it is recommended to be used with a no. 18 needle. I don't make any machine adjustments, other than not speed sewing with metallic thread. I've personally found sewing too quickly results in unpleasantness when using metallic thread. Fraying is definately time consuming, and surprisingly messy, but I like the results.

    • @nadinewoods6971
      @nadinewoods6971 Год назад

      @@rocansew My issues may stem from using a needle that is too small. I always try to use the smallest size possible so going up a size or two is a good idea. I always regret when I speed sew, so that's not an issue for me anymore. I have much better results when I take my time. Thank you for sharing what works for you.

    I enjoyed seeing your design process. I love yellow! I like how you topstitch down your seam allowances. About a year ago I purchased a used sewing machine that came with a flat felling foot, so it seemed like a good idea to start using it (which would also sew down the seam allowance, just on one side though). It looked so easy watching others using it online, but I was never able to get it to work so easily. I just ended up trimming and pressing first. Maybe I should try your method of sewing both sides down. It makes life so much easier for garments that have to be ironed. I have also never had great results with the continuous bias tape method. It seems so much easier to just cut and piece.

    • @rocansew
      @rocansew Год назад

      Thank You so much! I have heavy duty Singer machine but not many specialty feet. Flat felled, or a simple folded over and top stitched down are my favorite seam finishes. I will pick a seam finish dependent on the seam & fabric as I find certain finishes better in certain circumstances. I will French seam when I feel it's necessary.

    The most important thing is that all of the dresses you made have pockets. My mom loved pockets not only to hold things such as keys and wallet but to put her hands in. Had a school teacher in middle school or high that always had her hands in her pockets and she wouldn't wear any clothes that didn't have nice deep pockets.

I wouldn't have thought to serge and topstitch the seams, but that was a great idea as it will enable families to use these dresses for years to come, handing them down to younger siblings. Your color combinations will brighten these little girls lives.. I've seen many sewing vloggers who started out nervous about filming, but over time they've become so relaxed it's like they're chatting with old friends. We appreciate your lovely sewing, so you don't need to worry about your presentation being perfect.
