Packing for Bronze D of E
Просмотров 163 тыс.7 лет назад
Watch our video on packing for your Bronze D of E, it will cover what you will need to take and the best way to pack it. Find out more at www.experienceexpeditions.co.uk
Poor understanding of weight distribution! As this video is old won’t bother explaining the proper way to pack, just search YT!
Does anyone have any recommendations as my DofE is in may
Having the roll mat on the bottom of the bag can lead to issues with stiles. Having it at the top or vertically down the front avoids it.
This is so good thanks
I use either a 80l British army rucksack or a 120 litre Bergen with side pouches I also use a combat waistcoat and webbing for quick access items My kit looks more like military kit than camping kit
Fantastic
thanks
Hi. Good all round presentation there. It's very helpful to see how people select their kit and how they pack it. I've been working on my load out for a very long time and I reckon I'm sorted. Thanks to you all for your videos. Happy pacing !
Uh can I just use a bin bag instead of like the dry bag or rubble bag bc I’m not spending more money and it’s unlikely it’s gonna rip or have major holes
wow very good video
Hi does it matter that I use bin bags as dry bags as I do not have access to any dry bags
I dont know why im watching this right after i came back from my bronze d of e
it's very useful
I leave tomorrow and are incredibly stressed.
Skill issue
How many of them inside bags would I need and would it be ok if I got like 6 of the orange ones not the clip ones
Mine's in June and I am so excited!
How was it
Fantastic, well done to all involved. YNWA.
I would have loved to have been able to do the DofE awards scheme but never had the chance. I left school 25 years ago and they only really started doing it at my old school in the last 10 years. Instead, I have spent the past 6 or 7 years researching and optimizing everything for a solo hike from John O'Groats to Lands End, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell, and Snowdon on route. It is very good that you mention that people should only take what is essential, though after reading about the experience of some DofE participants and leaders, I would mention that hair-dryers, hair straighteners, and hand-held computer games are not essential. One thing I would change is that you suggested 60 to 80-litre rucksacks at the top of the video. I have found in my own experience that if you have free space in a rucksack, you will invariably try and fill it with something, thus making the pack heavier. Also, larger capacity rucksacks will typically be heavier than lower capacity rucksacks. So my suggestion would be that a person should only take items that are "Essential" to the expedition and then get a rucksack just big enough to carry all of those essential items but not so big as to allow extra space. The last thing is that people should be taught how to have a rucksack properly fitted. Many times I have seen people carrying rucksacks with very loose shoulder straps causing the rucksack weight to be halfway down their back. A rucksack properly fitted can make everything being carried feel like half of the true weight, while a badly fitted rucksack will make everything feel double its weight. Other than that, a very useful and informative video :)
All clothing etc inside own dry bags inside main dry bag. You will thank me later
I was supposed to do Bronze 2020 , but it's been cancelled and now I'm doing at the start of Year 10 . Coronavirus man

I'm going on my bronze expedition in march... I was wondering if you have to buy your own rucksack or if it is provided by D of E?
You will need to buy or borrow one.
Same I'm doing mine in march.
Hi, each school/centre is different. Most places we have worked with provide rucksacks to students. I suggest you speak to whoever is delivering the exped for you. Enjoy.

There’s no food video
This is a decent video, nice. There’s another duke of Edinburgh packing video (might even be the official one) that is full of some really bad advice.
Thank you. i appreciate your kind words. As a mountain leader, i am simply passing on the same tips that i use when out in the hills myself.
Lee Houston great stuff, you’re really clear and the experience comes across too, good advice for anyone really
What type of brand is your rucksack?
Lowe alpine
Its the new Nokia rucksack
Would i look silly using my cadet bag ?
Nah I’m gonna use my cadet bag.. atleast it’s giant so it will fit everything lol
You would look better than the others
awesome vedio.
thanks for the kind words.
R u from Merseyside
Yes :) how can you tell? ha.
What do you do when your bag doesn’t have straps on for your roll mat
Skill issue
There should be somewhere you can put it. The cross strings on the front could work.
