The Day of the Species project began in 2019 and is now an on-going community art activism project. When more flora and fauna are added to the the national threatened species list they are illustrated, one by one, by a growing number of artists to create a visual representation of what we stand to lose.

Over 200 Australians from every state and territory have drawn, painted and named our entire national threatened species list on to the backs of tiny pieces of recycled cardboard. In 2022 that's 1,843 flora and fauna. This ongoing national community art project highlights Australia's biodiversity crisis and calls for new laws for nature.
