The Now and the Not Yet #nowandnotyet #sanctification
Hi
It's not the existence of God nor God that is rejected. It's the proposition that is rejected that God exists, or judgement is suspended, since the evidence put forward is atrocious: arbitrary and leads to more than one conclusion. The evidence in this video is you reading a book allegedly quoting a guy who had an opinion. Woot!
Thank you for your comment. This was actually not an opinion of the apostle Paul - there are other passages where he distinguishes his own opinion. Unless Paul said otherwise, this wasn't his own opinion, but he was divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit to write what he did.
Note the theocentrism: "We encounter it daily as Christians: those who reject the existence of God; those who consider our belief and our faith a fairy tale." I thought this was about atheists! Sounds like it's really about _all non-Xians!_ Remember: atheists are far outnumbered by religious theists who do not accept God. If all non-Xians are the target, why pick on atheists? That smells of bigotry. If atheists alone are the target, then don't say "God." Say "gods" or "a god" or "any gods." After all, if it's "gods," then God, being a god, is included. Theists and atheists alike reject God. Only atheists reject gods.
The reason for atheism: a sober assessment of facts.
First, allow me to say that I applaud how well you articulated your points of view, and your sincere enthusiasm for this topic was evident. That being said, there are two points that immediately came to mind after watching through your video twice. 1) Regarding your initial point for "the reason for Atheism," respectfully I fully reject your argument. My being an Atheist does not have anything to do with what I want to be the truth or with me suppressing the truth, as you suggested. My being an Atheist is completely about the fact that Theists and Theism have not met their burden of proof. I have listened to lots of different Theists, both in person and online, talk about reasons for believing in a God, and after analyzing these reasons I find them all to be either logically fallacious, personal testimony that I have no way to confirm if what they believed happened is what actually happened, or generally unconvincing thoughts. If you would like to fulfill your obligation under 1 Peter 3:15 to give me the reasons for the hope that you have, I would want to know them while keeping an open mind. 2) I would urge you to rethink using the argument the people should believe the claim a God exists because the evidence "is made manifest to them, for God has shown it to them." In the Quaran, it talks about how Allah once split the moon in half and eventually put it back it back together. You do not need to take my word for it or anyone else's word, you can go outside your house tonight and see that the moon is in one piece, just like the Quaran said it is. There is your proof to convert is Islam, Allah manifested himself to you and plainly showed you that the moon is currently in one piece. Does using your line of reasoning convert you to Islam, or do you need something to be more than just made manifest and shown to you to convince you that a God claim is true?
_0:20__ "... those who reject the existence of God ..."_ Well, someone has hardly understood anything about atheism. Atheists do not reject the existence of a God, but the unfounded assertion that he exists. What you mean is a very rare type of atheist who, moreover, knows that there is no God; you could call him a Gnostic atheist or an anti-theist. _2:22__ "... the evidence is all around us ..."_ Really? Then let us share, because contrary to your claim that we are sup- pressing the truth, we are very interested in the truth and therefore in good arguments for the existence of God. Because good arguments lead us to the truth - and bad arguments cover up the lie.
If my friend had a holy book that stated the reason Christian exist is because they are pretending; would that be a good way to determine if that's actually the case or true?
