Awesome 😎 Thanks for posting!
Hello, do you know what song is playing in the background?
Warm water flowing like the ocean 🌊
I feel that this is the most evocative surf scene ever put in a Hollywood film by Milius or otherwise. It truly encapsulates the entire surfing experience without scripting and makes me long for my surfing youth.

I actually watched this entire movie on scrambled HBO! Every once in a while it was pretty clear. Miraculously, most of the "Big Wednesday" footage was pretty clear. I revisit the DVD from time to time. Sure wish they could remaster it.
I surfed once a year for years on holiday...just inossible to say how hard this is...likent sport you have to grow up on it...
Underrated movie, for me these moments are astonishing
Hello thare, its the big waves in California, is it true. Like the strong power the big waves in Nazare Portugal. Bye. Luis Batista-2023-8-10
これは深く良いシーンだった!戦場へ自ら志願し生きて帰国できないかもしれないと思い最期になるかもしれない自分の好きなサーフィンをするジャック‥最高のシーンでしたw
Love this movie...for peeps though that never surfed it aint like this...lolz
Great film, unfairly forgotten. I watched when I was 12 yo, and now I'm 56 and recently have seen it again and... it haven't disapointing me.
This scene is beyond epic..... small story... it reminds me of my own demise of youth and surfing.. many years ago, in my late 20's, as my friends were getting older and moving away, my last trip with my sole remaining surfing buddy (before he moved away with work and family), we were at Fistral (UK). It was a lovely clean bright autumn day, we had 4-6ft clean and just the two of us out back, man, that was a session, I'm a longboarder, he rode shortboards and we carved it up that day, helped out some guy who got caught in a rip, surfed until dusk..... I remember riding the last wave in, I'd missed the biggest wave of the set but caught the last and had an amazing, sweeping ride all the way in. we packed up and went home, he moved away, and that turned out to be the last session I ever had... my life moved on, etc (kinda like Jack here...) to quote Bear...'nobody surfs forever..' Every time I see this scene, that last day is in my mind like it was yesterday... We're now in our 50's, kids left home, and last year, got another longboard, bought a motorhome and am now back (creekily and painfully ..lol) surfing ....and my wife is bodyboarding ...maybe we do surf forever :-).......... and this is the perfect theme tune for it......
Beautiful. As a guy who rode waves (not well admittedly) in the 70s and 80s, this brilliant clip from BW is a life-statement of freedom, individuality and destiny. One to revisit time and again.
I remember Kelly at that age. Had the opportunity to judge one of his Junior Men's heats at The ESA East Coast Championships at Cape Hatteras N.C.. I think it was either 1987 or 88. Who knew at that time he would be the Goat? Well we might have had a hint. He was (almost) pulling off some very innovative stuff that day in nice size surf.! He didn't land too many of these big aerials which may be why...believe it or not...he did not advance from this heat. I think Kelly was having a great time out there and not really trying to score points.
Fabulous moment from this iconic surf movie. Pure Poetry.
Love it how the brothers were each other's toughest critics
I was surfing North Florida ESA at that time... noticed Kelly's shirt. Looks like he's riding a Matt Kekle shape!
Was 14 and ripping at the time. He was just ripping light years ahead of all of us.
I miss the 80s.
I will bet million dollars on this kid to become GOAT
Yeah, I'd love to know what Sean Slater is up to.
That kid is talented, I hope he sticks with it. No doubt he will be one of the best surfers to come out of Florida:)
What became of the forgotten brother, so sad.
Nothing sad about it mate. I'm pretty sure he's "taken care of". Kelly is a squillionaire.
bring the pink shirts back yo! Funny hearing Slater use some of same phrases today with same swagger...top billing!
I was 16 and this was the best time ever to be a California kid. I was doing nssa and trying to be like Curren. Little did we know about this guy sitting in this chair. Goat
Interesting that Sunset was the spot the interviewer asked Kelly about, and that 15-year-old Kelly said it was scary; because as the 51-year old GOAT it's now been DECADES since Kelly was "afraid of" Sunset, but he doesn't enjoy it. As recently as sometime in the last 6 months, when asked about his mixed success in contests at that spot Kelly said "I don't respect Sunset and it doesn't respect me."
The interviewer was 1977 World Champion Peter Townend.
Is that the old Huntington pier that got knocked down?
It's not Huntington. Looks like Aliso but I'm not sure.
Hermosa beach pier
Magic! One of the most inspiring scenes in history for a surfer
I absolutely love this guy . His humility is inspiring . Surfed with him once in 1995 . What a gent
Wow, years later after thousands of hours of paddling out Kelly must've picked up 50 pounds of muscle from his young boy times.
he speaks almost the same now
I got a feeling that young man is going to be an epic surfer. I can usually spot talent.
naaah, he doesnt have any game..dont think he's gonna crack it...i wouldnt bet on him ....I can usually spot talent.
@@bernardkriel1 I guess maybe he is like kinda like Samson twin brother, once he looses his hair all bets are off.
Pretty sure his older brother has a slater fish and tackle shop in cocoa beach
Wonder when he stopped wearing that wig? 🤙
Kelly is an Old Soul
This was earlier then 87
You state in another comment that Kelly couldn’t be 14 years old, even though he says himself that he is 15. Now you comment that this interview occurred earlier than 1987? If you know better just give us the facts in a comment. Hey, Slater might even read it and apologise to you about claiming he was 15 at the time 👍
If Slater 51 and this as filmed in 87 he wasn’t 14 in this video
He said 15, the clip they showed must have been filed prior. He turned 15 in 87 so it was also possible he could have been filmed when he was 14
How come we never hear of Sean slater did he not end up pursuing professional surfing ?
Did he die in a car crash?
@@Thomas_Paine1286 nah that was Mick Fanning's brother Sean
°•°•☆SEAN SLATER☆°•°•
Sean Slater kind of fizzled out as a professional surfer, and started pursuing other paths to a meaningful life, just prior to his little brother Kelly really blowing up.
@@Gilliganfrog wonder what he ended up doing, if he still surfs with Kelly these days.
This scene is so beautiful. Jack has one last surf on his own before he meets his fate. We all have times like this
