This is a great guide for beginners most will have a sff and so they will be dealing with this kind of computer.. do you think you would de a follow up showing what kind of external gpu can go in here and what they should look for. I have seen people buy a gpu with external power connectors for this kind of build..also updating the wifi card to ax.

Ah .. I just did a service today on an optiplex sff that had an i9 14900, cooled with the standard vacuum blower cooler and a small heatsink ... yeah .. that's normal in the oem workstations world ;)

for the ram, you could also look at the sticker on the ram.pc3=ddr3/ pc4=ddr4. will also tell you speed in the code on ram stick. ram speed is equal to what the motherboard can support. which is equal to the cpu, what ram and speed it can support.

not working on laptop

I picked up a 9 year old ( now coming up to 10 years) Workstation PC it works smooth and does what I expect from it some light CAD, google meets and multiple browser windows. There is one massive issue coming up. EOS for windows 10 is literally a ticking timebomb. I tried getting windows 11 via rufus but I won't get security updates, I am so lost as I still want to use the system as it is good for my wallet and for the environment. What do you reckon I should do ? or is there a way to by pass all the stupid artificial walls Microsoft has set up and still get windows 11 security updates ? Cheers!

Don't these cards have more than 1024mb? Something like 1280mb? My gtx 570 hd has that amount . . . And these older cards are still good, they support quite a bit of games, but i retired my 570 for a 1030, has a bit more performance, but it uses way less power. I use it for old games so it is totally fine, but i wanted to cut my powerbill a bit, 150 vs 30 watts is substantial

The biggest problem here would be to get a PSU for that case and even if you did get a better case, how will that motherboard attach to it... yeah no, this is not a upgrade able PC

The problem is you won't know until it arrives, they never show enough pictures of the motherboard when they sell PCs and they never specify the exact motherboard model unless it's like a modern PC that they might show the model name. There are sellers that luckily show the exact motherboard model etc...
