Remote Island : Hammock Camp
Hey Everyone..!!
Why don't you go get yourself a brew, put your feet up and come and join me in my Canadian Canoe for a Hammock Camping trip on a remote island in the middle of beautiful Loch Awe in the North West of Scotland. Along the way we will have a little nosy at a few other islands and maybe throw in a couple of Castles for good measure too.!!
I do so hope you enjoy the video and it brings across how wonderful the North West of Scotland is for Canoeing and Camping.
Feel free to leave any comments about the video or any questions you have about the type of gear I used during the camp in the comment section below.
All the very best...
Mike

      Hi, It’s not particularly too hard to find your way. However the area can become clagged in with low cloud all of a sudden on overcast days and you may start to veer off course. Best thing to do is to stay near the edge of the plateau and use the edge as a hand rail along the south rim. People tend to come unstuck when they venture in towards the middle of the plateau. Obviously bring a map and compass and a gps if you have one just in case. Hope you enjoy the walk if you do decide to take it on. Pick a clear day and I’m sure you’ll be fine. Lots of people to ask along the route if you’re unsure. Thanks for watching and happy hiking🙂 Mike

      Hi Steve, The shelter is set back approximately 50 yards from the edge/path. It is quite hard to notice that it’s been turned into a shelter as the stones that have been used blend in very well with the rock. Well done on doing the skyline by the way, it’s a great adventure. Thanks for taking the time out to give the video a watch, it’s very much appreciated. Take care and happy hiking, Mike

    Thanks so much for the great vid. Hopefully can now try and persuade my slightly over protective parents, who did Jack’s Rake when they were younger, to let me scale it. I’m presuming it should be ok as I’ve done Toreador Gully before on Haystacks before and a few other scrambles like Sharp Edge and Striding Edge. Would you recommend, taking into account possible dangers and the rest?

    • @FurrychalkbagOutdoors
      @FurrychalkbagOutdoors Год назад

      Hi Rowan, Thanks for the comment🙂 I personally don’t see it any harder or dangerous than Sharp Edge. So if you were quite ok with SE then you should be ok with JR. There is a dodgy step across that has to completed but after that it’s pretty much ok. There maybe a little bit more climbing involved than Sharp Edge but most of it is inside a small gully. Just make sure you do it on a very dry day as there is always a bit of seepage out of the rock. Thanks for watching my video, I hoped it helped🙂 Happy hiking Mike

      @FurrychalkbagOutdoors 2 года назад

      @@sillwuka There is a National Trust car park near the base of Mam Tor with plenty of parking. The walk to the summit of Mam Tor itself is a very straight forward one, with stone steps most of the way. The climb up these is quite hard on the knees but if you take your time and rest along the way you shouldn’t have a problem. The walk along the ridge to Hollins Cross is a lovely down hill walk with great view’s to the left and right of you. It’s a good little stroll for beginners. Because of this it is very busy at the weekend. Go during the week if you can🙂 Happy hiking Mike
