Talking on the KQ2H 10 Meter linked repeater system from my house in Easton, CT, a good 60 miles away. Using an 80 Meter dipole fed with speaker wire, mfj tuner and 100 watts. (Not best antenna for 10m). FYI every time I key up my mouse and keyboard would shut off lol. Repeater output 29.620, input 29.520, no pl tone required. Have Fun! Successful QRP Contacts with 5 Watts in the Field
Well explained. Thank you!
Ok all if you need a power switch then get rid of the resistor and solder 2 wires to a on off switch...you dont need a resistor anyway
I'm not sure what the bottom number on the radio is supposed to be?
so your radio is set to the listed frequency. But when you key it, it uses the offset and transmits on the new frequency. If you have your partner radio set the same way, you won't hear each other, right? If you are 146.445 and it jumps to 147.445 but your partner is on 146.445 how exactly do you communicate? Do you have to jump back and forth frequencies to receive and transmit?
Your radio handles that for you automatically when you program the offset. You listen on 146.445 but you transmit on 147.445, the repeater does the opposite.
If you have a llicense you can use HF bands and communicate worldwide without repeaters
Hey, thank you for the video. I’m from Connecticut. Maybe you can help me out with my radio. I bought this radio and I’m pulling my hair for four days without success I need someone to teach me How I can operate it thank you
I can only hit on repeater. It’s so hard
If I want to contact a friend for instance using a repeater. Do I need to call the repeater channel or the channel that me and my friend usually use? If it’s the repeater then, is there any way to use the privacy code to stop other people joining our conversation?
So how does somebody a county or two over know what freq to be on to hear you?
Thank you for this very helpful video. I am new to this, and you have a natural skill at conveying information ( this is coming from a retired teacher ). 73 !
I am trying to program my radio to my local repeater. I am new to HAM and still learning. My local repeater was found on repeater maps and it has Two frequencies. It is for Hornell NY. The numbers are 53.370- call sign K2TJW and underneath it says 146.865-. How do I figure out what the offset is?
If it just says - with no number next to it, you can assume it is the standard offset of .6MHz. So it would be 146.265
I can't watch your video without taking a Dramamine for seasickness.
Server supplies are miles ahead of the typical competition in design, protection, and efficiency. The thing is computers are constantly being upgraded so there is an abundance. Unfortunately most just go to E-waste recycling.
Great video! But now I am left hanging on whether or not you got that email...
Awesome. I'm just now diving into all of this.
Very helpful and informative
Thank you for this. I watch a lot of videos that claim to teach you how to use it, but this was extremely informative.
I like this radio

I am using an ATX form PSU with around 35 amps running my icom 7300. It shows about 12v on the radio but it is barely above the red on the volt meter. Does the radio want more like 13.5 volts? Am I losing any output power on TX running only 12 volts?
What is the other radio next to the uv5r?
Very good one, this is what i was looking for
Wait CT as in Connecticut?
Thank you.
What about New Zealand
thanks, you helped me out a lot
My gosh you are so lucky! Can you find the dransmitting Location?
yup, found it! l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fgoo.gl%2Fmaps%2Fqmq7w9aS8VMaAB9EA%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR3uCWkTMS-KC45MdNOuEIazTGtEZk7ZGqMhaXS7P1WgOIu3oonZ_x8apsk&h=AT0-XhP43nJuE45oyjmrogsKXtQRUDCzOt7cLnh2BR-01pbQt03NpJyqZvTvedxTRU2DlfoXywWIgrDVBRXarQLpsmCH274UvE43v6KQq9alwLiLLVlsR38tQHbi-RqE3Q

Hey, I noticed you’re in Connecticut I’m in Bristol what frequency would I program my radio to to listen to Bristol repeater? If you could message me.
Looks like there are actually a few in Bristol, you could probably reach out farther than Bristol though if need be www.nerepeaters.com/2m_bystate.htm www.nerepeaters.com/440_bystate.htm
Thank you so much, here in Holland (EU) i will start first licence, looks like the drone licence i have do this year. Prepper fun.!
The repeater I'm trying to use has the same ctcss for recieving and transmitting
I have since figured it out
This video would be more useful if I could actually see what the screen was displaying even half the time but apparently whatever camera you're using doesn't have a light adjust feature so I'm just staring at someone pressing buttons a black device
Excellent, thank you so much for showing this.😊
You solved all my problems tonight. THANK YOU!!!! Liked and subscribed
Could you please post a video of how you got it to run at 13.8 v
Newbie here. Can I use a GMRS radio to listen in to and speak to a repeater to reach another GMRS radio.
Only if you have a GMRS repeater in your area and your radio supports CTCS (for the tone). Main issue is, most off the shelf GMRS radios don't list the CTCS codes as frequencies. They list as 1, 2, 3. Not 67.0, 69.3, 71.9. etc. In short, yes if you can set it up to a local repeater.
But where do you get these to start with
ebay
You are moving your camera too fast and too often. After watching I needed Dramamine.
Too bad
Always gotta be somebody looking for something to complain about.
The KB1CDI system in central CT has a 10 meter repeater link too. Get that one yet?
soooooooooo much to learn lol
Jumping those two pins with a wire accomplishes the job of turning on the power supply and I've left it ON in that "hacked" setup for years without issue, however the proper way to turn it on is to connect a 21k-ohm resistor between pin 36 & 37, then connecting pin 34 to the ground will turn it off and on.
how does radio frequency go so far. thought my setup on 433, 2.4 and 5.8 worked in straight line of sight. Is there radio towers all the way, so beam frequency can bend round curvature off earth. Hmm
Yes, radio signals in the shortwave band 2-30MHz can bounce off the ionosphere and make it around the world with very little power! Shortwave is where the magic happens.
@@greaterbridgeportamateurra8429 they used radio to speak to moon landing -- how did that not just bounce back ? i always thinking and asking.. thanks for reply earlier.
I'm ham certified but still worried about breaking some fcc law
Dont worry there are no fcc police that will show up your door 😂 its not that up tight
What do you mean that you are "ham certified"? Do you have a license and call sign? KN6UXD
You did a good, thorough job of explaining this and it’s made a difference for me grasping it. Other teachers I’ve watched only told the theory but it was you walking through the steps that clarified it. Thank you.
Thank you!
Great video thank you very much. I’m grateful to you man. Thank you
From how far away will I be able to use a 2 meter and a 70cm repeater? I’m about to order an Icom id-52, if that matters. It will be my first ham radio. I’m scheduled to take the test soon …
It all depends of the topography from where you are to the repeater. If you have a nice line of sight to it from a high vantage point it could be 20+ miles. If you are down in a valley with a mountain in between it could be 1 mile. In this video i was at high location with the exception of some trees and foliage blocking a direct view, i almost had a direct line to the repeater so it worked well. 2 meter will travel farther with more obstructions but requires a bigger antenna. 70cm will radiate efficiently off a small antenna but line of sight is more critical.
@@greaterbridgeportamateurra8429 Thank you. I live in Phoenix, AZ, so I’m surrounded by peaks. Surely I can reach at least one, so I’ll go ahead and order the Icom and a better-than-a-duck antenna.
Would I need the “tone” to just receive from the repeater?
No, only to transmit into it
@@greaterbridgeportamateurra8429 thanks man
Great video! Thank you
I downloaded the echo link and it ask for callsign
I'll have to double check but I think you may need to be licenced to use echo link. Maybe try it without im not really sure
Awesome job! How do you word the lookup to find out what pins to solder to?
Power Supply pinout should give you some results.
can you show talking using the phone?
